yes indeed.
and the worst thing is there no option for you to opt out.
for eg. maybank which is very kind to offer an option for you to choose no annual fee but limited time of cash withdrawal (4 times per month), subsequent RM0.50/withdrawal.

Got. It's called Cimb free basic savings account. It's a damn hassle to open as Cimb will try to bluff you that it isn't there at all.

I have been using Cimb free basic savings account and didn't pay them anything for donkey years.

A lot of banks have BSA la. I got it from HLB, PBB, CIMB and BIMB. For Maybank, initially they will charge me RM 8 but I walked in to a branch to cancel that and they helped me to remove it, never paid anything annually.

Yes by law they are supposed to have it but Cimb is the only one that I noticed like refuse or make it hard for you to open one.

Not sure if it’s a branch thingy, I got mine from the KL Mid Valley branch and it was easy.

What's the big fuss with BSA opening...??

All banks got offer them all... Just pick whichever is near & convenient to you....

If you've trouble opening one, just walked out & to another bank... Unless you die2 want that particular bank... Then no choice keep "begging" for them to open one for you.... Or you find another day / branch different location..

BSA is a mandatory option by BNM where all banks must offer without any additional cost.
but the thing is, for those with existing account, BSA would require a new set of account number and walk in to the branch for BSA account opening, which is quite a hassle.
so many just pay the RM15 yearly

One thing is for sure, banks are tightening up their rules for CASA opening. Not as easy as it was in the past.

Yes, that's right. These days cannot simply CASA at any branch, it will be referred back to the address as per IC. However, I managed to open HLB and CIMB BSA from the Mid Valley branch as my office address is registered in The Gardens area. Otherwise, they won't allow as well.
