You can push way up to 3200. I would say, better worry about getting sharp photos first before the noise level. Noise can be minimized with post-processing.

Agree with celciuz, D700 is much better, FF still excels at noise, still at least 1 stop better than D7000. Don't rely on how great the D7000 ISO, some said very close or cleaner, but in real usage, you will notice it's noisier especially the dark areas. D700 at 1600 ISO is still very clean; There're some sites that does very detailed and proper review and you can clearly see that D700 is still much better, at least by 1 stop.

The thing about the D7000 is the focus points. It's far superior than the D90, and coz I'm buying the 85 1.4G, I have to be very careful with the focusing right? Extra points = 2016 RGB pixel instead of 420 RGB pixel, superior ISO, body, etc etc

HI, i am reading the D7k user manual.

In page 26 (lens VR), it mentioned that "do not turn the camera off or remove the lens while vr is in effect. If power to the lens is cut while CR is on, the lens may rattle when shaken...."

Does it mean that I need to slide the VR switch to ON each time I switch on the camera and slide the VR switch to OFF before i switch off the camera?

I asked a photographer here. How's the D700? He said the colour was normal, no big difference compared to the D90. Only thing was it's full frame. He used a D90 + 70-200 VR1 before, then he swapped to 5D Mark II + 135 f2. He's happy till now coz he said the 5DMKII gives a nice tone to the picture

Nothing special, just that he prefers the tone from the 5D.
No what I meant was he was happy with the D90, then he wanted to upgrade, so he choosed the 5D instead of the D700 because of the tone it gives out. And he's a good photographer IMO, doesn't care much about his gear. Most of the top photographers here uses 5DMKII

Many a time, people are very tempted to bump up saturation and use Vivid profile. While this may work on some shoots, it works horrible on skintones. When you shoot with flash or at high ISO, the skintone looks overcooked.

Stick to Standard or Neutral picture style.
