I bought mine early June and according to MPA, the Nano-coat is to replace the non Nano-coat version. Hence, new stock will eventually become Nano-coat version after the initial batch/stock of non-Nano cleared. There should be no such thing as selection between Nano and non-Nano in the market because it's more like a revision or replacement.

And at that time of June when I'm asking around, the B+W distro in M'sia yet to carry any Nano version yet.
My box should be exactly the same like both of yours. Well... why you used soap to *wash* the filter instead of proper tool such as Lenspen to clean it? sweat.gif
*
I got mine about the same time as yours too! 15/6/10 to be exact haha. That time I was looking for Hoya HD, supplier went out of stock... offered me the XS-Pro as a sweet price for me to try out. Ambik je haha, first thing I noticed is hard to clean doh.gif

yes, but UV protection is not needed for digital.
the nikon NC like the name says neutral gives more accurate colors going thru.
*
Not easy to find those actually, last time when I first bought my D90 + 18-105 kit lens. Shop offered me Nikon filter, RM120 I think for 67mm that time newbie straight said no and paid RM80 for a Kenko single layer 67mm UV filter ._. LOL. Damn.

actually its very easy to find in PJ/KL.
around RM260-280 for 77mm.
used ones i seen a couple selling for RM180-RM230 or so.
*
At that price range, I would go for B+W XS-Pro anytime to be honest. I paid less than that for my XS-Pro back then laugh.gif But now I think about there gua.

track faster?
agree...haha...so next...if wanna buy b+w, need to ask, "ni nano coated ker?" biggrin.gif
*
Err... I don't think 'track faster' is the advantage. Advantage is you can precisely focus without the need to recompose. Especially when you need to use AF-C mode.

I think all the new packaging are nano coated.

So if I'm not into Sports Photography,is the extra focus points wasted?

Nope.

generally for sports, ppl will use 9/15/21 etc point AF on AF-C mode, depending on how many cross sensors the body has.
imagine trying to track a very fast moving object with just 1 focus point tongue.gif
*
A few of the motorsport photog I know uses single point AF. Maybe the cars are big enough and easy to track tongue.gif

That's birding tongue.gif

But I guess for birding its the AF-C with dynamic focusing... 9 or 15 or 21 etc. Still a single point, but camera automatically refocus to adjacent point if gone out of the actual focus point.

sigh.reading u ppl talking by all this make me jealous.

Well, i have some funds.

Thinking of buying some second hand lens.

What to buy? trying ot  get 17-55, no 1 sell

Wide angle? any advise on DX?
*
QUOTE(hidden830726 @ Sep 30 2011, 10:57 PM)
Looking for Nikon only. Only 1budget, prefer pro lens or better lens 2nd hand, since i only have 1 budget, need something that can be used most the time.

Something i figure 17-55 will be good, but any other options?
*
Pretty much the best choice if your budget allows. I'm not sure if this is true or not, I remember back then when sending my 70200 VR2 in for warranty due to AF failure I did ask them which lens was the common one having this issue. The person at the counter attending to me told me its the 17-55 f/2.8 and the 18-200 o_O

There's the Sigma OS version right? Heard good reviews about it or at least focusing should be more reliable than Tamron.

Street price of D700 in KL? Btw, a shop here is selling used 85mm f/1.4, the previous owner used it for less that 6 months, his reason for selling was too tight for indoor during weddings. It's for only RM3600, should I get it? I'm scared that he dropped it or something before. What should I check if I wanna buy?
*
85mm f/1.4G or D? My friend whose a wedding photog uses 85mm f/1.4G indoors a lot lol. He's on D3, FX sensor maybe that guy selling was on DX... back when I used 85G on D90 also felt pekcek indoors.

zomg!!

this is the reason why i ask about the af-s 85mm 1.8g.. feel like want that focal length and aperture.. but on d5100 the only viable choice is the f/3.5g(not fast enough) or the f/1.4g (too expensive) and lastly, the existing f/1.8d does not focus on my d5100..

yalo.. zzzz~ i kena poison gao gao by celciuz di.. rawr~~~
ya lor~~ when~~ >_< hopefully by next year.. then i shud start saving now.. hope it's not TOO expensive.. limited budget.. baru quit job somemore..

I don't think it will be a good deal like the AF-D judging from the 50mm f/1.8D to 50mm f/1.8G kinda differences :S

QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Oct 2 2011, 11:31 AM)
He's usually reliable, but I'm worried about the previous owner. Scared he dropped it or something before, that's why he's selling it cheap. Will go and try the lens first.

Omg do you know you are the reason that I'm buying the 85!  shakehead.gif Ahahahaha. Poisoned since the Kyra series  thumbup.gif

Haha... why not poison-ed by celciuz's skill instead of the gear? Nanti gears semacam, gambar masih berlainan lagi tongue.gif *** no offense ya ***
*
LOL, won't la... sure can do it one!

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Oct 2 2011, 02:05 PM)
We need to be in reality. That's what happening to the photography culture at the moment. Many people (but not all) thought they could produce the same quality given they're using the same gears. Even better photos when they're on better gears. We certainly need to straighten this out. I'm not saying you or anyone is one, but we shouldn't lack or only focusing in gears than building own skills. That should be what counts the most before even better gears. My 2 cents smile.gif
You shouldn't compare different type of lenses like that. Each that you mentioned above has different focal lengths and arguably different superiority in different situation. I would suggest you to look at what you need than what you can afford.
*
Actually, I think I developed different style when I started using different lens and gears... From D90 --> D700, lens of different ranges.. my style changed since I first shooting...

QUOTE(tctham @ Oct 2 2011, 02:11 PM)
the 85mm 1.8d cannot auto focus on my body (d5100) if i'm not mistaken.. sad.gif

I looking for a longer reach for portrait.. also looking for a tele.. 70-300.. i know the two that i listed are great lens.. we pay for what we get.. since i cannot really get those lens for now.. i think i just use those budget ones lu~~ and i know there will be a difference in quality in that as well.. i just using an example of those lenses that i cannot afford at this moment of time. if they release the af-s 85mm 1.8g at that price, then i really have to look at other alternatives edi.. that was what i meant.. not trying to compare the 85 mm against the 17-55/70-200.. all of them diff category anywayz~ (portrait / standard zoom / tele)..

sorry for any confusion caused.. >_<
*
Portrait lens is a well... I think it is more of a bokeh lens LOL. But, wide angles, zoom lens etc all can do portrait as well, just without the bokeh subject isolation.

QUOTE(tctham @ Oct 2 2011, 02:16 PM)
Thanks~ speaking of the 70-300.. sorry if i spark up old debates/questions again.. my friend recommend me the Tamron SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD.. what do you guys think? the tamron? or the few years older nikon? cause I think the tamron should have some improvement during those time gap.. but i still have some uneasiness over 3rd party lens as opposed to nikkor lens.. (that and also the resell value)
*
Used the Canon mount on 7D, seems pretty good IMO.

QUOTE(engseng @ Oct 2 2011, 04:31 PM)
Is Nikon going to showcase the Nikon mirrorless cameras at the KLPF this weekend?
*
Based on their FB page, yes.

QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Oct 2 2011, 04:34 PM)
Of mainly by his potrait skill. He's the otai of potraits here brows.gif

Why I want a 85 1.4? No matter how good my skill is, I can't use a Tamron 17-50 to produce pics like that can I? tongue.gif
*
If you are referring to the subject isolation aka bokeh, no way. tongue.gif. Even the 70200 VR2 only comes close, but the bokeh a little diff. One is due to big aperture, f/1.4, another is the focal length, 200mm.

MSS got car and bike races but today abit special since Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific doing their rounds, theirs the one who has alot of lenglui one. Normally you'd be lucky if there's are grid girl in MSS laugh.gif

I went today with my friend, his brother one of the racer in the superbike series and he the one who help me with the vest and all thumbup.gif  laugh.gif

How do I apply for this? I don't have any any publishing or whatsoever... last I know those events such as F1, MotoGP, SuperGT etc all require publication. Maybe will try for next year perhaps.. this year most events over jor T_T... MotoGP impossible to get ._. more strict that even SuperGT.

Im not sure how aswell, will try to ask my friend about it. IIRC have to contact SIC official or something. Today saw alot of people taking photos compared to previous race, probably because of the Ferrari Challenge i guess laugh.gif

According to my friend who was race official once, he said F1 was the hardest event to get a photog vest. They'll do a background check on you and like you said need to be from some publication and such. MotoGP and SuperGT im not sure but heard SuperGT to get the vest you have to pay like RM700 or something (if have lubang)...not sure true or not though rclxub.gif
*
Yeah, the paid media. But to get the free pass, you need to have publication. MotoGP and F1 more or less equally tough, since both are international events.

QUOTE(0168257061 @ Oct 3 2011, 12:14 AM)
F1 is the hardest,
even you can go in this year, doesn't mean next year you can...

actually celciuz, why don't try on hillstand ?

Omg D700  cry.gif The D90 + 85 looks kinda flat right? Probably because of the range, tele-like perspective.

Yeah that was my point. If you have awesome skill but lousy gear, you won't get awesome pictures, you will only probably get good pictures. To get pictures like that, I have to own a lens that can produce amazing bokeh. My friend who just started photography bought a 5D MKII + 200mm 2.8L. His pictures in spoiler below

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Yours was like-new condition as well right? How long did the previous owner used it for?
*
Not exactly flat I would say, its a little different. I prefer the 85mm on FX. Due to the distance differences, it yield different bokeh. Go closer and it won't be as 'flat' as you think tongue.gif

Just got back my trip, and saw the rumors on the D800... I'm hoping that ain't the real spec to be honest, but its a 99% rumor.. (still rumor! got 1% chance.. haha!)

At 12.5k price tag, I'll be considering the D3 replacement already if I were to upgrade my D700.
