I wanted to know the differences for technical knowledge, but not trying to compare as for what you thought of. For example some of Nikon's pro grades have Nano-coat, do Canon or Sony have anything equivalent to Nano-coat performance?

Something similar like Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi have VTEC, VVTI and MIVEC technology respectively.

Therefore, anyone care to share the knowledge for lens comparison?

Google is your friend.

I know Canon has some fluoride and UD coating thingy. Zeiss has some T* coating.

I haven't seen any brands with lens such as 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/2.8 which isn't a pro grade yet tongue.gif Of course I'm referring to the big players.

24-70 f/2.8 non L or non gold ring? laugh.gif

L lens.. Nanocoat... just a way of the company to call their pro grade lens... and to differentiate with the entry level 18-55 for example.

Besides, those range of lens were never meant to be entry levels. Any entry level 24-70 f/2.8 by Nikon or Canon before?

There is a guide posted in the front page if I remember correctly.
But 17-55 f/2.8 for Canon is not regarded as a pro lens biggrin.gif
20 minutes max per single recording if I'm not mistaken. File size not really sure, but depending on your settings of course. I read that many recommended at least Class 6 and above for capturing video otherwise it'll fails when the buffer filled. SanDisk has a version which is Extreme Video Class 10 30Mb/s which so-called specialized for video.
*
I'm asking for lenses such as 24-70.

My friend's 7D also can take 1080p video on just a Sandisk Ultra II. Not really a big issue for video writting, IMO shooting burst with RAW is the one that is testing the buffer and also memory card write rate.

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Oct 12 2011, 01:17 AM)
50mm f/1.8G (FF prime lens) cheaper than 35mm f/1.8G DX.
The 50mm f/1.8G is sharp, better built? better bokeh? better IQ? and have distance scale.
*
Wrong comparison. 50mm focal length lenses are easier to manufacture which explains the lower pricing. You should compare the 35mm f/1.8G (DX) against the old 35mm f/2D (FX). FX lens are generally more pricey than DX, and you must be comparing the same focal length since different focal length have different manufacturing cost.

QUOTE(ifer @ Oct 12 2011, 08:35 AM)
some photographers go for different system because of certain lenses that is 'exclusive' only to that system.
i.e. Nikkor 14-24 lens. EF TSE 17mm lens. etc etc...

i like my nikon because of the 14-24. but then again, i like my canon because of the 17 TSE arrghhhh...
*
My friend uses a convertor to use the 14-24 on his 5Dmk2, maybe you can try it too then no need to keep 2 systems.

yeah i have heard of it. i am just waiting for this latest generation of camera. see what do they offer...
*
Ahh I see.

QUOTE(ikki9394 @ Oct 12 2011, 10:20 AM)
Does it give as good quality as using it on the same system? Does that mean I can use canon 24-70 on a nikon since it is cheaper lol? But i guess it will look kinda weird tho... Haha sry for the noob question here...
*
I know there is convertor for Canon, but is there a convertor for Nikon to use Canon mount? Besides, you loose the AF capability and also adding up the cost of lens + convertor would be even more. Since you are already paying so much, why bother with a convertor? Not like Nikon doesn't have a 24-70.

QUOTE(ifer @ Oct 12 2011, 10:54 AM)
the mount is not cheap. plus, you lost autofocus. i don't see the trouble. unless is canon don't have type of lens. or nikon don't have type of lens. and you really need that lens to save your life. if not, don't bother lah. get the nikkor 24-70 lah. (besides, nikkor 24-70 is nicer)
*
Totally agree.

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Oct 12 2011, 11:13 AM)
Errr... That's because Vivid does not do a single thing when you open your NEF under Lightroom. So whatever set is just placebo effect in your mind. It's the same effect like using Standard or Neutral picture style.
*
Under LR, I set Vivid as processing profile. It is very close to what Vivid shows on camera.

QUOTE(Agito666 @ Oct 12 2011, 11:27 AM)
yes is not cheapo lens but once you buy it can tahan long long long long time XD
and i said 24-70 because i "heard" it is good XD...when times come and my saving is allow to "bleed all at once" then i will drag my friend go test first...wan see the bokeh XD...since last time he show me his normal zoom lens..i think is tamrom or sigma i forget... 24-70 f/2.8 one... he said zoom lens also can produce nice bokeh too.

50mm f/1.8? i can borrow friend's 50mm f/1.8D   whistling.gif
but not so good la because i might borrow for few months till 1 year due to need re-saving money for next lens/ body.  doh.gif

but then now all of these are dream talk for me XD
wait and see till year end then can save up how much money first  tongue.gif
*
Zoom can produce bokeh is a ... "weird" statement.

70200 f/2.8 is a zoom lens, 200-400 f/4 is also a zoom lens. Do you think the bokeh is no good?

Yalor... more like a syok sendiri effect...chimp at the viewfinder... feel damn syok... tell the models "wah sui ar!" "this and that", but go back home at LR.. eww!! I have to do RAW edit everything from scratch... sweat.gif
*
You can get very close to Vivid if you set processing profile as Vivid. There's Standard, Portrait, Landscape etc just like in the camera. Its close, but not exactly the same.

*
No.

QUOTE(Agito666 @ Oct 12 2011, 11:52 AM)
haha sorry my fault, i mean zoom-able lens can also produce creamy bokeh with some technique too, can on par with f/1.8 tongue.gif

that time i using D70s+ 35mm f/1.8 and he use D90 +18-55 f/2.8 tamtron (if not mistaken haha  sweat.gif )

we that time shoot in same cosplayer then he told me this haha... that time i thought F number lower the better... Xd
*
What technique to make your zoom lens for bokeh? Shoot closer? Find far away background? Those aren't 'techniques' they are just knowledge you can use to your advantage.

Besides i think 70200 at 200mm f/2.8 does better bokeh than 50mm at f/1.8 ._.

You need to understand, aperture is not the only thing affecting bokeh. Focal length does as well, same goes to your distance to your focus point and also the background distance to your focus point.

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ Oct 12 2011, 11:54 AM)
i recently purchase a ND 8 from hoya hmc and a B+w MRC CPL filter

because i have my hoya hd filter on my 70-200 do i take out the uv filter 1st then only insert the ND 8 filter and the CPL filter on the ND filter

or

do i put the CPL 1st then only put the ND 8 infront of it

or can i use all 3?

Just got back from my krabi trip and will be leaving to australia tonight
*
The more elements, the more image quality degrade. So remove the UV filter.

I will put the ND on then the CPL since you need to turn the CPL for best effect.

Depends on your nego with the shop, since it already comes with the plastic screen protector very unlikely for them to give you a film type already.

But anyways, the Nikon free screen protector is no good. Once you have particle trapped in between, you risk scratching your LCD.

Convertor to use Canon lenses on Nikon bodies does not exist. Besides, why do you want to use a lower grade lens when you can use a Nikon?  biggrin.gif
*
Fortunately, there is no lens from Canon that would lure me to do that. laugh.gif

Agreed. Wait till you see bokeh shot from from a 300mm f/4.  biggrin.gif

Tried the 200-400 f/4 at 400mm f/4 before. Amazing! Now I wonder what kind of bokeh would a 400mm f/2.8 yield... flex.gif

I would think it's out of this world...

Anyway, just for the sake of discussion, the 400mm f/2.8 VR at it's MFD at 2.9m gives a 0.77cm DoF at f/2.8. The 300mm f/4 at it's MFD of 1.45m gives a 0.44cm DoF at wide open f/4.
*
LOL. Oh well, that 200-400 can't focus as close I guess.

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Oct 12 2011, 11:01 PM)
Looks great. Wah... How come you got several new toys to test? I saw a 14-24mm f/2.8 in the bunch too.  thumbup.gif

On a side note, me thinks Miya should have won.  nod.gif
*
Yeah, I had some wide angle shot with 14-24 f/2.8. Poisonous! >(

Friend's lens, so borrow and test lor. He has the trinity and also 85G + 50mm f/1.8G. But too bad none of my friends own the 135 f/2 else would be able to play too aiyoyo~

So, this is the so called better colour? Firstly, it looks fake and colour can be adjusted if you want, unless the photog don't know it can actually be done.
Thirdly, the pic even at such small resolution, you can see it look like water colour painting or doll, look at the face and hair, and it looks like some hard sharpening too?

I think someone previously posted some really nice shot of canon 50mm f/1.2 bokeh;
This has nothing special really? If you don't say, who or how many would've thought it's done with f/1.2? or Canon 5D MKII? The colour, first thing comes into mind would be bump up saturation?
*
Haha oh well, I bet the Nikon D700 + 50mm f/1.4G can do similar style with post processing. Bokeh wise f/1.2 and f/1.4, I don't think many would be able to tell apart.

Guys, can explain about picture control? Does it really affect our picture? It's always on standard on my D90. Potrait mode boost the colours?

Btw, street price for D700? Rm6.2k here in KB hmm.gif
*
Treat picture control as a preset post processing by Nikon. For JPEG that is what you will get, for RAW it will apply the instructions but the RAW file is still intact which you can still change later on on your PC.
