Are you able to reduce the heat from hAP AC2? mine is hotter than the previous Mikrotik RB751U, is still bearable, but thinking to reduce it if possible.

Currently I'm running it with both radios off so it's just slightly warm. I'll check the temp with both radios on.

Hi, need all your opinion. i plan to replace my office current dlink wifi router to mikrotik.
anyone can recommend the wired router model (now got access point to handle), which can handle around 100 users.
tq in advance

What speed internet? 100 all active simultaneously?

Currently my auntie's office is using RB750Gr2 with UniFi 100Mbps. About 180 devices (many phones), maybe 50 active simultaneously. About 15 very active ones, those who handle the website, social media, shopping, etc... Always uploading and downloading stuff. And one boss who torrents. sweat.gif

If I were to upgrade them now, I'd go for hAP AC2. Anything above that (RB3011+) will be fine too.

your auntie's office environment similar like my office
just upgraded to 100Mbps last month, and this month received turbo upgrade to 800Mbps, but now can get around 200 - 500Mbps.

i think i can go for your suggested model: RB3011+ smile.gif thanks for ur info smile.gif

I think the hAP AC2 might actually be faster than the RB3011 depending on config. Go for the RB4011 if can. RB3011 is not a good buy unless it's substantially cheaper. You don't need the SFP port right?

Only thing where the hAP AC2 loses out a lot to RB3011 and above is the amount of RAM but you may not need that much RAM. Earlier batches of of hAP AC2 had 256MB but officially it is supposed to only have 128MB.

I am considering a MikroTik router (read about it having being good bang for the bucks) for my home. I plan to keep the router and CCTV NVR in a data cabinet inside the store room (fiber wall socket will be reallocated there). About 10 Cat6a points (reserved 2 for AP one for ground floor and upstairs) since if I place the wireless router inside metal data cabinet the wifi probably won't work well?

Wireless devices I guess probably about 10 or so... phones, tablets, wireless smart switches etc.

What models could I start looking at? And also recommended wireless AP?
*
What speed is your internet? For now, best bang for the buck would be the hAP AC2. Amazing routing performance. I use it as a router only, radios off. Slightly cheaper than that, the RB750Gr3. May struggle at 800Mbps if you're doing more than just default config.

As for APs, I just recycle my old wifi routers. The fastest one I have is the Aztech FG7008GR(AC) which has 4x4 5Ghz. Got mine for RM145 at Lazada. This is the freebie that Singtel gave away with the 500 or 1Gbps service. Not a particularly great router so many used ones available for cheap on the market but makes a pretty good AP. Someone else here got one for RM80 from carousell.sg.

The only other AP (& vlan switch for HyppTV) in my house is my trusty old RB2011UAS-2HnD, this serves the 2.4Ghz for the entire house for all the IoT stuff, Airport Expresses, older phones and laptops. It's also the RouterOS user manager (aka discount RADIUS).

Wifi is not a huge priority for me. Most important stuff are already on cable. I'm happy with 50-100Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 200-300Mbps on 5Ghz. My laptop can get 750Mbps+ in my office but no point because if I'm in there, I'll be using the LAN cable anyway.

Still have my eyes set on the RB4011 but for now the hAP AC2 is good enough. (and a lot cheaper)

Thanks for the input! Gonna look hunt around first, but I pretty like the idea of these PoE powered AP so I don't need to have sockets at the locations.
*
As long as you have a cable, you can go PoE anytime. Either with a PoE switch or PoE injectors. At one time my RB750Gr3 was powered by the PoE from a hAP AC Lite. Just for fun.

If your cables are long, just make sure voltage don’t drop too much at the output end.

PoE injector means I’ll need a power socket at the location right?

How long is “long”? Is it follow the Cat6 below 90m?
*
Yeah, you'll need a power source. The PoE injector can be anywhere along the cable. If the distance is quite far, you can put it somewhere in the middle.

You can calculate the voltage drop. Simplistically speaking, it's V=IR. What we learn in Sek Men. The R will depend on the quality, material, AWG and length of the conductor (the cable). Probably easier to do it experimentally. If you're using the same box of Cat6A for your house, just wire up a 10m length and test the resistance or voltage drop. That'll give you pretty good idea of what you can expect from your cables.

But for me, I just plugin 12V and see what comes out the other end. Not enough, plugin 24V. Most devices which accepts passive PoE (also known as fake PoE by another well informed forumer here) will be able to handle a range of voltages. Example: my Mikrotik AP accepts anything from 8-30V. UBNT is probably the same.

And then there's 802.3 af/at PoE. This one I never use before.

power lost in the cable have to take into consideration
awg22 23 cable resistant is around 6Ohms/100meter

power=i^2*r

let said power consumption is 1.5a
power loss over 100 meter cable is 13.5watt(13.5watt juz wasted and convert to heat...not good ranting.gif )
v/r=9 volt drop over 100 meter
he need a 24v 2a power supply
*
As long as the cable doesn't melt, should be OK lah. When I calc voltage drop for PoE, I use the length of the cable x 2. My Dintek cables not so good, no way I'll get 9v drop over 100 meters.

Ask him to do a proper conduit and trunking, it might happen 1 day you might need to replace your cables..
My conduit wires all broken when i try to pull.. now have to go by surface mounting..

Just got myself a HAP AC.. hope it's not the wrong choice.. Might want to add another Cap ac on my 3rd floor
*
hAP AC as your main router? What speed is your UniFi? Afraid to say that the hAP AC routing performance is relatively weak.

I did a test here with the hAP AC. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=90330495

Not a comprehensive test but it didn’t give me a very impression of the hAP AC. I’m currently using one as an AP only. WiFi also so-so lah. But then again Mikrotik’s WiFi is always just so-so only.

can you suggest the best mikrotik router for TIME 1Gbps?
*
hAP AC2 will be good enough. It handles UniFi 800Mbps with room to spare. And TIME's internet doesn't use VLANs which means less CPU needed.

RB4011 for sure OK but 3x more expensive.

i dont have hAP AC2, just hAP. I have an EdgeRouter-X though, does it better than hAP in terms on performance? I know the functionalities is win by MikroTik.
*
ERX is same, more or less, as RB750Gr3. Same Mediatek CPU, Both are better than hAP AC in terms of routing speed.

I was using the RB750Gr3 before changing to a hAP AC2. The RB750Gr3 is OK but you gotta make sure bridge port hw_offload is enabled and fasttrack is operational. The main prob I faced was the 1Gbps link from the switch to the CPU. The hAP AC2 has a 2Gbps link.

A few tests I did on RB750Gr3 on Turbo500.

Marginal for 500Mbps. If you're doing more with the router, definitely not good enough. If default config then no probs for 800Mbps.

hAP AC2 on Turbo 800. Much better.

Hi all sifu, i like to get a Mikrotik router for hobby and home use.

My house devices up 15, mix with wired and wifi, unifi 100mbps.

Current router is Asus AC55uhp, plan to set this router as AP

Can recommend a suitable Mikrotik router  ?
*
I agree with MX510, go for the hAP AC2. Whether you use its wifi or not, it's a really awesome router.

Also the RB750Gr3, no wifi, router only, about RM50 cheaper.

Objective: throw the stock Maxis wireless router out. The Huawei fiber modem is TM provided.

I've got an Asus AC86U that DOES NOT support VLAN profile, so cannot work without the stock Maxis wireless router.

Question: Which Mikrotik access point should I get? Cheapest possible and STABLE, I don't need WiFi on it. I just need it to provide access and let the AC86U do rest of the work.

I am guessing I should get the RB750r2 as the best bang for the buck?
*
Feature wise, they're all the same. At least 2 things will factor into which model to get. Gbe or FE ports and the speed of your Maxis Fibre (ie: what routing speed do you need).

Currently using 30mbps maxis fibre. future may go to 100mbps.
which model can you recommend? I am confused by the models. Further reading seems to indicate that RB750Gr3 may be more suited for my usage.
*
I had a quick read at what you intend to in your other thread. Not sure I understood it all but it seems you only need VLAN switching. If that's the case, you just need a managed switch. A cheap Mikrotik router will also do. Not sure which will be cheaper. Maybe get a used RB750GL or something like that.

Hi guys. Anyone here use your mikrotik to replace maxis with working IPTV setup?

I need to replace the horrible techinicolor router once and for all and failing that, I'll probably just cancel their service. Trying to get any support from Astro/Maxis is just just impossible. They just keep pointing fingers at each other with no resolution from either side.
*
It should be possible. Any ideas about the vlans involved? I vaguely remember that there is a thread here about this very subject.

My uncle uses Maxis/Astro IPTV with 2 decoders. Also have an RB2011 but just as an AP. I haven’t have the opportunity yet to look at the config of the Maxis router.

Just sharing my findings here. Anyone notice some smartphones like iPhone and Google Nexus can't utilise the 2.4 GHz band 40 MHz channel width? Only able to establish 144.4 Mbps on 20 MHz channel width. Channel bonding fail? Not sure it's the smartphone Wi-Fi chip or RouterOS problem. Currently running the latest RouterOS stable version 6.45.5. The smartphones all have the current 802.11ac Wi-Fi chip from Broadcom. But i use a Huawei Nova 3i to test it can establish 40 MHz and obtain a theoretical data rate of 150 Mbps too bad it's 1x1, as seen in Wireless Tables -> Registration. And i use a laptop with Killer Wireless also able to establish 300 Mbps for 2x2. Seems like not RouterOS Wi-Fi issue. Now don't say something like why 2.4 GHz when you can 5 GHz, that's out of discussion.
*
Apple products, by design, only uses 20Mhz channel width at 2.4Ghz.

Guys, I need some sifu to help me setup my Time Fiber on my RB4011AHX4, previously I've been using this router for Maxis using vlan 621. Trying to setup by myself but no luck on getting everything smooth and running. Searching over google with the only one guide to follow but still cannot, only managed to get to a few website and cant even ping to google dns. Speedtest.com keep having latency error. Plugged in back to the dir 882 everythings works fine. Are there any guide I missed in the wild or in lowyat forum I can make use of? smile.gif
*
TIME is very straightforward. No vlans. Nothing. Just do a reset and use quick setup for pppoe router.
