Ishhh .... redsn0w is a tool for jailbreaking, Windows or Mac are just redsn0w ported in different OS, has nothing to do with tethering.

As of now, iOS 5 is tethered with redsn0w (mac/windows). No news on when the untethered exploit is coming out.

Bro azraeil, i heard that 3gs able to have untethered jb on ios 5 with preserved bb. Is that true or the cust just bulls**t me?

As mentioned by frozzbyte and sugen, only those lucky enough with the 3Gs with old bootrom (359.3) can get iOS 5 untethered ... (I had one before, and I sold it ... damn!)

If you're on 359.3, then say thanks to the gods that you can jailbreak iOS5 untethered. If you're on 359.3.2, then you're on the same plane as everyone else .... only tethered jb for iOS5

For tethered jailbreak, only reboot requires booting via redsnow. No issues with respring.\

And for reboot via redsnow, you're not jailbreaking again, just need to use the tool to boot up.

when i sync my iphone 3gs with itunes (normal sync), it gets stuck at the last stage "waiting for changes to be applied". i wonder if this is caused by jailbreaking the iOS 5. hmm seems like even the tethered jailbreak is not really stable yet
