QUOTE(Wan @ Sep 30 2011, 02:43 PM)
You're right about the high tempo. Cleverley, Welbeck, Young.. and the kids at the back.. they just make us awesome going forward. It's a beginning of a new era indeed. But can't expect them to carry us all season long. That's where the old guys come in. And one thing about the old guys is that, they take a while to get going. Carrick especially(SAF mentioned it every year) only come alive in November or so.
*
That's true. One of the greatest abilities of SAF has been his ability to blend youth with experience. There's always a good balance. And I believe that's what we have now.

QUOTE(dlct87 @ Sep 30 2011, 02:47 PM)
i do think he can, we can now see he's involving himself more and more in the opposing half, but i can still see the cautiousness of his plays, so still needs some time to gain his momentum of finally going "box to box", same goes to Fletcher as well...once they achieve that, we will be flying again in no time

but i do hope our fullbacks will hold their position more as now our center is more open than before, and if even the fullbacks leaves hole, then we're shot defensively sweat.gif
*
I hope so too. I'd love to see him flourish again as that complete midfielder before he retires. But I got a nagging suspicion that in the end, he'll still be tasked with the defensive side of things when he plays. Especially when playing tough teams and CL matches.

QUOTE(likeicare @ Sep 30 2011, 11:17 AM)
Just to add something about squad depth. IMHO, we have too many forwards at the moment. Diouf, Macheda, Berba plus 3 key players which is Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez. No, I am not saying Berba should be sold. Just that I am not sure what the future like especially Diouf and Berba.

On Carrick, we should keep him but only as backup.
*
no such thing as too many imo.all the ones we have so far is quite "versatile" i would say.plus just roll back to our treble year where the gaffer managed not just 2 but 4, primed firing on all cylinders forwards see what that got us.so managing 6 and not all of them on fire isnt a bad thing.

so these 6/7 has still a major part in our season.not saying more=assured silverware but every bit helps.defense/midfield were healthy there as well in terms of numbers and not speaking of their current health.

at least we can see he really tried not to "back-pass" nowadays after being booed by the OT fans, and scolded by Evans lol...but adjusting his style needs time, so give him a break guys...against Basel we can see he starts to venture forward, and hitting his passes nicely
*
Just to add, Carrick is not being booed back then. Went to the official forum and they have some discussion about that.

Strike duo back for Norwich visit

QUOTE
Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will both return from injury for Saturday's Barclays Premier League visit of Norwich City.

Sir Alex delivered the good news at his Friday press conference at Carrington, where he also indicated Jonny Evans could be fit to take his place in the back four.

Rooney, who has scored nine goals in his first five league games this term, hasn't played since the 3-1 win over Chelsea on 18 September, while Hernandez came off with a dead leg early in last weekend's draw against Stoke.

The Norwich game comes too soon for Nemanja Vidic, Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling, who should be back for the trip to Liverpool on 15 October.

"Wayne and Hernandez are fit for tomorrow," Sir Alex said. "They trained very well yesterday, which is pleasing.

"We'll hopefully have Jonny Evans back too. At the moment we're making too many changes in the back four so hopefully his return will help us with the defensive part.

"Vidic, Cleverley and Smalling should be ready after the internationals and available for Liverpool."

After United's 20-game winning run at Old Trafford in all competitions came to an end with the surprise Champions League draw with Basel on Tuesday, Sir Alex will be keen to avoid a repeat this weekend, when the Reds can still set a new club record of 19 straight home league wins.

"People will say our performance was careless [against Basel] and that we underestimated our opponents," the Reds boss added. "I think there's an element of truth in that and we have to do better defensively."

Carlos Tevez's alleged refusal to play for Manchester City has dominated the back pages this week, with the media garnering reaction from anyone and everyone in the football world.

Sir Alex did not want to dwell on the subject but said of City's boss: "I think Roberto Mancini has come out and shown his strength of character and strength as a manager which is important in today's management.

"We've all experienced our own difficulties in management and you cope with it as best you can. My only experience is strong management is important. There's no-one more important than the manager at a football club."

As planned: Fit to play against Norwich -> "injured" -> missed the international break -> return to play after international break

Hernandez maybe yes but we never really know how extensive Rooney's injury was...it was reported to be hamstring so HOPEFULLY it's ok, unlike his metatarsal injury
anyway SAF said they are ready although i agree there's no need to rush them back with so many strikers at our disposal

One long article but worth or reading about Scholes

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/featu...-one-dares.html

Excerpt:
QUOTE
On Sundays we'd play at the local field for three or four hours, then I'd go annoy the neighbours by kicking the ball against their fence.

Scholes - speaking about Cantona
QUOTE
On the pitch there were still times I was having to pinch myself to believe that I really was a team-mate of this great footballer.

On Beckham
QUOTE
Becks was always amazing with his hairdos. It seemed like there was something new every week. It kept me entertained as I never knew what fantastic creation was coming next.

We all have different lifestyles, we all do different things when we go home. But so what?

SAF said about Scholes
QUOTE
There's also wicked humour about Scholesy. For instance, it was never wise to go for a pee anywhere near the side of the training pitch when he was about.

I can remember Gary Neville doing just that, trotting a good 40 yards away and facing a fence.

There he was, doing his business, when suddenly – whack – Scholesy's hit him on the back of the head with a sweet right footer. He was that accurate.

Bobby Charlton said about Scholes
QUOTE
Let me make a little confession. In my position as a director of Manchester United, I know I shouldn't have favourites, but I must admit it – Paul Scholes is my favourite.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that for a long time now he has been my footballing hero.

so our formation should be:

DDG

Valencia--Jones--Evans--Evra

Nani--Fletcher/Carrick--Anderson--Young

Rooney--Hernandez

really  with our defense really...always not enough man power due to injuries sweat.gif

those regulars at Stretford End and other season ticket holders are hardcore and wont boo the club, while the smaller percentage of the "tourist" spot ones probably wanna enjoy and savour the moment at OT instead of booing, especially us Asians visitors who will whip out the camera and *Ka-chak!* laugh.gif
