its how you use the laptop that determines how long it lasts not brand name, i have a lenovo y480 (intel centrino duo 1.5ghz, 3gb ram + 400gb hdd since 2008 and i still use it more than my newer laptop i bought 3 months ago. My friend bought an asus ferrari (14") in 2008 and he since replaced it cos his keyboard got damaged in 2010 and the asus centre were giving him headache to fix it. Besides trust me in < 5yrs you'll be looking to upgrade to a new laptop not because of your current laptop is spoilt/bad but because of new technologies that your current laptop cannot support.

thx,than ill think about y580 rolleyes.gif

Ok, in that case may be you should consider better warranty support to prevent any head / heartache.
Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8
It's not as powerful as the Lenovo Y480, but still decent enough. You can extend the warranty to 3 year, and still stay within your budget. (Make sure you negotiate when you buy through Dell online).
The good thing is if the laptop has any hardware failure within the 3 years warranty period, all you have to do is call Dell, and they will send technician to your house to fix it within 1-2 business day (for example, if you call on Friday, they will fix it on Monday / Tuesday).

Hi guys, im looking for a replacement for my Compaq Presario CQ42, and i have too little time to do any survey in the market, so i really need ur help and suggestions to narrow my scope, plz help..
Below are my preferences :

1.Budget: ~2.6k
2.wont heat up so easily, at least in a normal usage(Presario CQ42 did heat up very fast)
3.as silent as possible(fan)[again, Presario produced a lot of noise even i juz surfing the internet]
4.14-17'' is fine
5. weight is fine
6. with or without CD ROM is ok
7. RAM at least 4GB

Basically im still a oversea student and the laptop will be used most of the time in surfing info on internet and of course, sometime for gaming purpose, like left for dead 2? but not hard core game~ biggrin.gif

my friend suggested me Lenovo Y580 but it seems to me it is quite expensive like around 3k? Is it true, can anyone enlighten me in this?

Ur help is so much needed and appreciated . So, thanks in advance wink.gif

Some time we have to make hard choice in life, you can't have everything you want laugh.gif Shapely, or good character, or will not desert you in time of need (am I talking about laptop or picking a wife? hmm.gif ) laugh.gif

Micheal Dell: You uncle is a traitor! We will flush him out and hang him dry laugh.gif (just kidding)

Seriously though, as all the sifus said, no brand can provide 100% no defect guarantee, no matter how good the design and quality. If things fail, you are relying on the warranty support service. Asus looks really good and specs really nice (god know how many Asus models I personally want to buy nod.gif ). Some owners swear by Asus quality: "use 5, 6 years no problem." But some owners swear at Asus: "send in 14" for repair, get back a 15" with lower spec." (latest case reported). So are you feeling lucky today? sweat.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

If you mean Lenovo Y580, there are quite a few specs around, some selling as low as as RM2.3 - 2.5k (especially those grey imports) laugh.gif

That's the Asus official product list.
The additional 2G RAM, is he giving you another 2G stick (which use up another RAM slot) or is he swapping out the exisitng 2G and give you a 4G stick? Anyway, this worth ~ RM40.
So in total about RM140 off list price. Not too bad, but you can negotiate more "kuat" if you want whistling.gif

Yeah, the specs is not bad laugh.gif
But just like the Y500 (SLI), its all about driver optimization hmm.gif
Personally I think the GX60 shouldn't be that expensive laugh.gif Just a lot of freebies hmm.gif
