Right, I think there is an acceptable solution for an IDM replacement for the MAC in regards to having a
download manager (dm) + accelerator that can easily grab not only images, etc but most importantly media files (video, audio).

I've found using a combination of the following two apps works best for me but if you just need to grab media files,
just getting the first app is sufficient but lacks slightly in download speeds:

1. FlashGot / firefox dm integration extension ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/220/ )

2. jDownloader / download manager+accelerator ( http://jdownloader.org/download/index )

The concept is basically that you use FlashGot to grab the media files by performing a secondary tap on the page you want
which will bring up a menu indicating the option to start downloading. FlashGot itself uses the FireFox built-in dm but you have
the option to use a dm which has an accelerator to boost d/l speeds. You can see a list of supported dm that works with
FlashGot at http://flashgot.net/features .

This is by no means as snappy as having a download button on top of the video/audio elements like IDM but hey it works.
I'm happy laugh.gif

Couldn't get it set up right for some reason. SD would not detect the media files I wanted. I'll probably revisit
the trial it to see if it is worth paying (for my needs). Slick looking app.

this is the easy way im use rite now 4 download YouTube on Safari, never test on others engines... tongue.gif

If you're using Safari, there's an easy way to download YouTube videos. Open the page with the movie and press Command-Option-A, which shows the Activity window. If you're also loading other sites, you'll see a list of them: scroll until you find the YouTube page and click on the arrow to show details about what is being loaded.

You will certainly notice an element whose size is over 0.5MB (most of the time, over 5MB). Double-click on it (even if it is still loading), and Safari will download it. When the download is over, navigate to the file in the Finder (which will probably be called get_video) and add the extension .flv to its name. Now you can play it with VLC or with QuickTime (only if you have Perian installed).

huhuhuuu.... smile.gif

Does anyone here use Proteus? I've tried to use it but it simply won't connect to my Hotmail account. Wondering if my settings are wrong or if there's an unknown firewall blocking. Help?

5.Adobe CS5 Master Collection - not necessary, not everyone can afford "genuine"

8.Norton AntiVirus (Protect against PC-virus from spreading) - definitely no! you dont need this

if you have google chrome, why do you need minefield??
