both you failed kuiz tongue.gif kidding, get answer alr my self

This high-performance wide-angle lens with its retrofocus design (Distagon type) provides outstanding performance even at full aperture despite its high speed. Its sharpness and contrast are exceptional across the entire image field of full frame 35 mm cameras.
The integrated super-sonic-wave-motor (SSM) allows the Distagon to focus extremely fast and practically without any noise.(1) The wide rotation angle of the smooth-motion focus ring, which is free of play, also provides for precise manual focusing.
Due to its very close minimum focusing distance of just 19 cm, this wide-angle lens opens up a world of creative opportunities in addition to usual application areas such as landscape photography and photography in small interiors. It’s possible to capture small-sized objects from a very close distance at almost full frame, while the wide angle of the lens reveals much of the surrounding foreground and background, which blend harmoniously out of focus when selecting a large aperture. Nine aperture blades form an almost circular iris, which allows for a beautiful bokeh especially in highlights in the blurred background and foreground.
The sturdy metal lens barrel protects the interior for years of trouble-free use.

So what have you made out of the article you found?

Distagon, Biogon, Tessar, Sonnar, Planar etc are names for lens design by Carl Zeiss. As I like to call them, the photography Gods.

SSM, USM, HSM, by now I hope you'd already know, are different names of the same type of focusing system by different manufacturers.

Distagon, for example, refers to a lens design that is pretty much optimised by CZ for large aperture wide angle usage. What you have read in the article, you should already understand by now that the SSM motors are moving the lens elements FOR the Distagon design.

So this makes what the others that have answered your 'kuiz' has given you a correct answer albeit a short one.

instead of focusing design or autofocus system, i rather call them "motor design" which wouldnt mislead simple wording. (SAM, PZDm, SS, USM, HSM, SWM, USD etc)

for the plannar. distagon... just a CODENAME for the designs. to put is simple
Distagon are wide angles, Plannar for mid angle (50-90mm) sonnar for tele angle. vario-xxx is for zoom lens.... like how intel name their proccesor with mountain codename or android name their version with food names.

haha codename, right too. But i think it more like marketing name. Wow, the red font awesome. i not even notice after read that in carl zeiss web blink.gif just know it is relate to wide angle. But i also notice all CZ ZA lens having T* (anti reflective coating). its clear my doubt when 1st i think only vario sonnar have rolleyes.gif actually my question come from when someone shared new SSM 16-50 with CZ16-80 T*, under the certain condition, the T* really made it stand out to remove the flare. also someone suggest to put 2 filter to work like T*, then i was thinking how much the 2 filters will costs (DT 16-50 f2 +2 filters) if matching to CZ 16-35 ZA (although there is ~3.6K price gap, FF, better build, better lens element) or CZ24F2ZA (although diff focal lens, FF, better build, better lens element) hmm.gif

Sonnar refers to the sun in Greek.. Which usually means bright... That's why the 85mm and 135 are called sonnar...
