Yes
I am a Digi Smart Plan user.

I tried with my Celcom broadband it still moves around but only to 3G and H.. not E...

I just hate when it moves to E or any 2G network..... when the data is loading, I can't receive calls/SMS...
How do I check the rom and modem version? Kinda new to android here. Thanks
However I didn't change anything in the phone when I first bought 2 weeks ago, other than plugging in to Kies and flashed the firmware.
*
if updated thru kies then shud be KH1/KH2.

stock rom problem? Well I'm reluctant to make drastic changes to the phone, but if that's the only way to make the data connection stable, and make proper back ups ... hmm.gif

As for the unstable digi connection, yeah that's what I do now. I leave it on 2g and switch to 3g whenever I wanna do some heavy duty surfing. Edge is more than enough for a majority of my usage. E.g. Whatsapp, etc.

i duno bout MIUI but basically networking shud be using the same principle. edge and 2G is using the gsm network for data sending and receiving, which is the same network with our cellular network. thus, when we using the gsm network to make call/ send sms, data will stop temporary. if we are sending/receiving data, others can't call in. correct me if i'm wrong but i dun think i'm wrong laugh.gif

I will definitely try the MIUI if it says okay.

My hometown house area has no 3G and my gf is complaining that she can't call me. So I have to turn off the synch and even data at times.

But I am still eager to find out the root cause of my network jump issue and hope there is a permanent solution.

If Iphone is fine why not SGSII

Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure, but it looks like me and davidlow7 share at least some of the same problems. Not sure if we're facing 100% the same problem.

I would summarize mine as:

1) While actively using data and sitting still, suddenly data connection drops. No H or 3G or E. Network connection error pops up.

2) Sometimes, despite showing full bar and 3G, etc, I cannot make or receive phone calls and smses. I also cannot access data. Now that I use 2G full time and only switch to 3G when I need it, I no longer encounter this issue.

100% stock, no batt saving apps, baseband GTI9100DXKH1, Digi Smart Plan.

I recently updated the gingerbread version to KH2 though. I still encounter issue (1).
I suspect issue (2) to be a universal network problem regarding jumping between 2g and 3g so it should still be there.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not a network or SGS2 expert and am looking to learn.

there is a possibility that your SIM card is the culprit. i used to encounter similar issue when i was using iphone. after changing to new SIM card it solved my problem. another possible reason could be, your network provider is having issue.

since you have flashed to another rom, i dont think rom is causing this. conclusion, SIM card or network provider issue.

Thanks for clearing that up man.

Guys... *deep breath*

GSM/EDGE DOES NOT SUPPORT SIMULTANEOUS DATA AND VOICE. doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Go google. It either drops ACTIVE data when calls come in, or holds ACTIVE data and drops calls (depending on the mode it's running on).

E being displayed on the status bar and whatsapp running (for instance) DOES NOT MEAN IT'S DOWNLOADING/UPLOADING ALL THE TIME.

To try, download something big on EDGE. Then call yourself. Voila.

ONLY WCDMA and above (HSPA) supports simultaneous data and voice. Oh, and WIFI obviously.

As a solution to the jumping issue, try this: type *#301279# in the dialer, select HSPA revision, and select no 2. Now press on your menu button and select END. Lastly, turn flightmode on and off to refresh.

Now HSUPA is off, and it jumps less. You WILL NEVER EVER SEE H OR H+ in the status bar any more (as HSUPA - the upload part - has been turned off), but download speeds shouldn't be effected by much (HSDPA is still on), EVEN if it ONLY shows 3G.

To return to your normal config, redo the whole thing but select number 3 in HSPA revision menu. Or you can go hardcore 3G only and select 1 to turn off both HSDPA and HSUPA off.

Have fun.

Thanks for the tip!!

So that HSPA revision thing solves issue (2 - network jumping), right?

Any ideas regarding issue (1)? I lose the data connection despite there being no calls or smses being made or received. I was sitting still so pretty sure there should be no network jumping. The H, 3G, E just totally disappears.

^ At least that's better than CDMA case
With CDMA it's either call or data.Even with 3G.
LTE is different story though.

To people who don't know,Eiraku is kind of hardcore when it comes to modification & hacking whistling.gif
I've done my fair share of modding with with the Nokia N900 but he's probably one of the few users in LYN for hacking his N900 more than me laugh.gif

@newbie: You have JuiceDefender/Green power installed? Otherwise it has never really happened to me so no idea.

I also think it's a SIM/Network issue. Just pray that your EFS partition is safe, or else there won't even be a cellular portion of the phone at all (no calls no nothing).

But seriously guys, root JUST to back up your EFS. It will save your ass one day, like it did mine.

Also, turn OFF fast dormancy. Dialer - *#9900# - Disable fast dormancy. Should be quite a bit more stable, though I have no idea if our carriers ACTUALLY support FD or not.

FD was only tested by Nokia Siemens during Q4 of last year.So high chance it's not implemented in Malaysia yet.
You guys know that our telco is slightly slow when it comes to updating their network.

I guessed as much. Anyway, glad to have you on board SEA. Have always enjoyed the company of you and the other N900 hardcores back in me Meamo days.

Anybody else defecting? I've gone through both the "evil" platforms (like we used to call iOS and Android) this year alone lol.

Thankfully RIM couldn't steal any part of my soul at all.
