Hi all,

One question - how to configure the call log so that I can see only unique numbers - could not find anything in the menu. I do not want to see the same number repeating again and again.

Is there any other place where I can do this. I am on stock rom.

Thanks all for the efforts put in - learning a lot.

I read it yesterday. Very detailed review.

He also mentions the "yellow" screen problem:

QUOTE
Let’s start with the first one, which a lot of users have dubbed ‘yellowing’. For a while now we’ve been gathering white point data at various brightness levels. Obviously we did the same thing with SGS2.

I’ve measured brightness (full-screen white and black) and white point at six brightness levels on the SGS2. Before I measured the SGS2, I noted that subjectively there’s the most visible change in color temperature after you dip below the 50% brightness mark.

hye guys, yesterday i go to one hanphone shop in subang. Then i want to buy HDMI connector for our phone. Then, after try it, they say if want to connect to HDMI, need to connect to charger also.. then can show on screen.. but he sell his connector RM80 and claim its original..

~just wondering, is it same with the original samsung connector(RM129 at samsung shop) that we need to connect to charger then only can show on screen.??

Original Samsung MHL connector -> no lag, at least in all the instances I've used it.

However, it needs external power to even work and.drains the batt (slowly) with the ori Samsung charger. Might try with my Nokia chargers one day.

Exportprive sells for RM90-ish only what.

hmmm... only now i realised we do have a lot of owners without smartphone plan.
ya, true... i just recently signed the 12mths contract with digi (so my bro can buy htc incredible s). but i noticed... try as hard as i might, my usage still below 1GB. this is 2mths liao... if some of you guys remember, i'm basically under heavy/ addicted user... heh heh... makes me wonder how the rest can chalk up more than 3GB data. p2p via wifi hotspot on the phone?
personally, i think digi's rm48 plan is good enough for me. 1GB data. and sign up for this plan also entitles one to rm400 discount on sgs2. maybe can share discount with some who have yet to buy the phone.

the other one i found interesting is the u mobile plan a owner recently mentioned -- rm28 (or sth like that) with free talk time, etc... not bad also.
serious?!?  notworthy.gif

buy ferrari not necessarily u want speed but enjoy the build, the brand, the design, the premium handling , n what money can buy, not necessarily the speed to enjoy it cuz not everyone enjoy speed but the pride n enjoyment of simply using it just like i said before, staring at the screen itself and simply holding it make me so song n the flexibility of android n lagless operation make me life alittle better n business better lol not necessarily must use 3g de hehe just to debunk the myth user is kiasu...at least imo, better than ipong stereotypes "i don k, ipong is the best"

I won't chastise those who buy android superphones and use them w/o a decent 3G data account, but I do feel that it's a little limiting, considering that - like the iPhone - Android was designed with constant access to "the cloud" in mind.

And considering that not everyone lives in an area where free, overlappingly bountiful WIFI is available, I think a basic data plan is advisable.

Having lived with CONSTANT access with the cloud since, what, 2008; I know I for one, CANNOT live without it any more. In jamban ka, or in forest ka, on the road ka.

But then, my cure might be somebody else's poison. YMMV.

Well, the player pro implementation needs an deamon to run to detect keypreses = battery drain and uses RAM.

This is more built in, like in CM7/BB.

Besides, not everyone uses/likes Player Pro heh.

EDIT: It WILL NOT work if you have APM installed. Which is sad.

Holy crap, that review. *Looks at URL, oh yep, AnandTech, that to be expected from them*

Galaxy S2 is quite a monster of a phone. If only I wasn't too dead set on getting Mytouch 4G Slide for its Sensation innards, good camera and that friggin QWERTY keyboard, GS2 will be the one to buy. No contest.

Oh hi, Eiraku! How is your GS2/ Android compared to your previous N900/Maemo?

I moved from the N900 -> E71 + N810 -> iP4 -> SGS2, so it's been a looong journey indeed. So how's the SGS2? In one word, awesome.

But really, it's a dual core device with a SAMOLED+ screen and the latest android. Other then some small niggles (low relative reso and yellow-ish screen at times, some pinkspot weirdness with the cam, not so good music playback quality, low earpiece volume), how can it NOT be awesome? Most of the niggles I used to have with android has been either fixed or augmented with proper apps.

It's pretty much the most well rounded mobile device I've owned to date, with the iP4 in close second. True, mobile OS based devices like these two pale in raw computing ability compared to Maemo, but it makes up in speed of use and convenience, which arguably is much more important in "mobile" use.

The better mobile computer is still the N900 tho, all things considered. But like I repeatedly said back in my N900 days, it sucked as a "phone".

But if there's one thing I miss from Maemo, it's "true" multitasking, coupled with REAL system wide cut, paste and undo/redo. Android's multitasking is nice, but it's still not as "real" as it was on Maemo. Surprisingly, when properly hacked, iOS 4 "feels" more "real" (with backgrounder and multifl0w), though it still pales in comparison to the real thing (especially considering how badly iOS handles power with daemons and background processes that are hacked into the system post JB).

Conversely, Maemo sucked power like no tomorrow, so.I guess the trade off made is well worth it for mobile OSes.

One thing I surprisingly DID not miss, however, is a hardware keyboard. Sure, it's nice to have, but for me nowadays, it's become much less of a requirement.

As for the N9 and Meego (while we're on the subject) well, while it MIGHT turn out to be wonderful device in its own right, by now a superior device on its own means jack shit if it doesn't come with a good app ecosystem; one area in which Meego is sadly lacking as of now.

Apps turned out to be pretty useful after all lol.

Too bad only nerds will bother to look through the details. sweat.gif
Well,Anandtech primarily do review on computer stuff. No wonder they follow the same style for reviewing phone.
Still the detailed review make Engadget's review looks like lazy schoolchildrens review.

T-Mobile's 3G is incompatible with Malaysian telco's 3G network right? Or is there different version of MyTouch 4G?
I did consider buying MyTouch 4G at 1 point but gave up after seeing the ugly design.

QWERTY keyboard in kind of unicorn in Android devices nowdays.I pretty much gave up on getting any qwerty based android device after AT&T leaked keyboard version of SGS II turned out to be a false rumor.

As *former* owner of N900 I'll still sat Maemo have it's specialness even when compared to SGS II.Software aside hacking Maemo was pure fun.In Android there isn't much hacking just mix & match stuff to make your phone work better.
I still have to wait for few more days to get on hold of my own SGS II.But I already have plenty of action with my friends SGS II.For sure I have to agree that this phone delivers the punch as it's advertised.

Changing plan from getting N9 to SGS II was real pain...

N9 is good device & could be better if Nokia did give it decent chance to fight.
Elop pretty much killed linux in Nokia & it's time to move on even for hardcore maemo nerd like me.
I'm not going to let Nokia screw me again with another experimental device (I still miss my N900 though sad.gif )
Money if hard to find nowdays.Better spend the money on reasonable device.
