QUOTE(irenic @ Sep 9 2011, 12:06 PM) last time when i used maxis, i always been charged over my limit. so maxis advice me to control my data and monitor it using that 3G watchdog app. Should ask Maxis for an official software that effectively calculate data usage.so i used it, but still the reading wasnt accurate, just like ur case. when i brought the case to maxis, they said the reading by watchdog couldnt be took as proof because it's a 3rd party software.. sigh! |

Firstly, to uncle benny and rawat (from XDA) many thanks for the EFS backup and restore guides.
Anyhows, I'm back from the dead, pure terminal typing, no computer needed. Crazy EFS wipe it was, no idea how it happened also, except I wiped batt stats right before it happened. Now need to reflash everything back lol, as out of sheer desperation I rolled back to a previous, really old NAND backup running VR1.4. Lol. Also, out of the same sheer desperation (and the fact I had NO decent back up phones AT ALL), I bought myself a nice 1 month old second hand Avaxx Nokia E6 lol. It's a nice phone (SQ's better then our SGS2, and going back to a hw keyboard was nice too), but it's no replacement for my beloved Siie-Tan. Returning to Symbian (even though it's Anna), a single core 625mhz proc and 256mb RAM was like driving an Inspira around while your beloved M3 is being serviced. I guess it's true, Symbian HAS fallen THAT far behind. Good time to run up to VR 2.4.2 too lol, after putting it off for so long. Wipe wipe wipe. QUOTE(law_yew_wooi @ Sep 11 2011, 11:43 PM) do you guys know how to make the browser render to text? as in you zoom in and it will fit the words nicely with the screen? or this can only be found in htc devices? S2 seem to behave differently from HTC. There is still an option to render the text when zoom but only works if you double tap to zoom. It appear there is only one setting for zooming. Pinch to zoom dont seem to work. |

just sharing...
anandtech's review of the international sgs2. very interesting read... QUOTE Finally, there’s one last semi-hidden browser feature - custom user agents. Enter “about:useragent” into the URL bar, and you can pull up a menu and select between a number of different user agents and masquerade the SGS2 as an iPhone, Galaxy S, Desktop (OS X 10.5.7 Safari), Nexus One, Lismore, or custom. whoa... now no more reason for me not to use stock browser -- my issue earlier one was no way to change agent string. some other interesting bits from the review: QUOTE I’ve measured brightness (full-screen white and black) and white point at six brightness levels on the SGS2. Before I measured the SGS2, I noted that subjectively there’s the most visible change in color temperature after you dip below the 50% brightness mark. To that extent, I took more measurements below that halfway point. QUOTE Some other people have reported SGS2 crashing or encountering a thermal shutoff after a certain point, so I braved the heat and stayed outside even longer using the device until it hit well over 140F (60C) and still no system shutdown or overheating happened. That’s not to say it isn’t possible, as the SGS2 clearly does have thermal monitoring, for example the following lines from dmesg suggest some thermal monitoring going on, though I definitely crossed these boundaries to no ill effects: QUOTE Again video recording quality on SGS2 is decidedly awesome in 1080p mode, though 720p could be better with better encode settings, the device shoots some of the best video we’ve seen out of a smartphone to date. QUOTE So we now know that inside SGS2 is either a Sony IMX105, or Samsung S5K3H2YX sensor. this probably explains why some units for pink spots... QUOTE The magenta circle I see on this SGS2 is faint and nowhere near as pronounced as the green iPhone 4 circle, nor the SGS2-captured images I’ve seen online. Further, I haven’t been able to devise a method to tell which of the two possible sensors are inside this particular SGS2. QUOTE I mentioned it earlier, but SGS2 uses a SiRFstarIV GSD4t GPS this time around. It’s a bit interesting that Samsung is using a discrete GPS considering the fact that Exynos 4210 has its own integrated GPS baseband. and a lot more... |

Imei gone means no sim card detected, but you still can run KTool? Just choose the EFS.img file you backup earlier and restore it? This post has been edited by yehlai: Sep 12 2011, 08:57 AM |

NSo im planning to update myself to android 2.3.4 stock rom, so all i need to do is:
Download the firmware files through here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 Dowload the kh3 one, put phone in download mode, then flash through odin right? For that version, the website didnt say anything abt when flashing it will lose data, so once i flash it, all my apps, data, homescreens and widgets will all remain? Just like that i assume? I wont have any extra probs like battery issues and everything right? One more question, do i need to backup my IMEI folder? I know i asked quite alot of questions, its just that i like confirmation b4 i do it, to prevent messing up. |

One more thing, is it normal for the battery to drop from full to 65% after 20 minutes of games,30 minutes of 3g web browsing and 30 minutes of wifi web browsing? Straight usage. If u wanna backup using TB , dont suggest u restore or even backup anything else beside your user app coz u r going from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 right ?
