QUOTE(MISHUGINA @ Aug 30 2011, 01:03 PM)
I hope Im wrong but if he can squeeze in Santos and sneak in Benayoun or Alex (Malouda is a little too far fetched) that would be an achievement. The Cahill saga will end up in heartbreak just like Schwarzer last Jan (Again when Wenger doesnt want to spend 5 million for a Premiership class keeper but 15 million for some ****ing teenager from Southampton, I wont be surprised if nothing is done by transfer window deadline).
*
Schwarzer or Wojciech?

I rest my case.

QUOTE(DannGun @ Aug 30 2011, 12:10 PM)
Rosicky and Arshavin aren't good enough. Hopefully Eden Hazard can join Arsenal! Cahill is fantastic of course! Can't wait for next match on 10th Sept and hope the team can be ready for Chelsea on 30th Oct!
*
Rosicky was a steal during that time. A player in his prime, impressive World Cup stint, Dortmund's midfield engine, snatched underneath the noses of Atletico Madrid, and an early signing before the transfer window went berzerk. In retrospect, his injuries have prevented us from utilising him in a consistent manner, and now he simply doesn't seem to be the player he used to be. I'd say it's bad luck more than anything else.

Arshavin was one of the star players in the world 2 years ago. What happened to him we'll probably never know, but again it's an important purchase at that time.

Should we ship those two out now? No. We need their experience, we need their quality.

But should we persist with those two in our starting 11? No. Gervy is the more exuberant player on the left, while we cannot rely on Rosicky to keep our midfield moving - Jack and Song is our undoubted first choice, while I personally think we need a more experienced player apart from Rambo who's still not quite there yet. Which is why Jadson who was previously linked made absolute sense, although that deal seemed to have died now.

Coming back to Eden Hazard... I'm not quite stoked as many others given 1) Gervy has already taken the wing 2) The player stated his desire to stay 3) Lille will be mad to sell him now that they are in the CL, just lost Gervy, and had Park Chu Young stolen by us. If we are purely looking at numbers, then Gervy is actually the better player.

Mata is one that passed us by, but can we really complain when Chelsea is willing to pay more and offers more chance of trophies? And don't forget we are pretty much doing to Lille the same thing now.

why are u directing that question to me. saying that failure due to lack of spending doesn't imply money = success.

whats wrong with you ?  doh.gif
*
Why am I not? Since you quote another poster's post agreeing on money does buy success.

Let me bring you back to your post,

QUOTE
most certainly!!!i always felt tat gunners will be tremendously awesome if they land experience players.that's what bewildering us for the past eight years.money does buy success.

You bold the quote and replied

"yep. just shows how our pea sized spending for the past 8 years has failed to bring us any success."

Doesn't it mean that you are agreeing that pea sized spending had failed to bring any success and if we have watermelon sized spending then Arsenal will have success? Or did you wrote wrong or I read wrong?

you buy lottery then got chance to strike....dont buy...no chance at all!!

Yup but now we are talking about whether AW spends a lot of money or small amount of money. Referring to the term you use, AW still buy lottery. Just that the amount of lottery he paid is small.

I think it's more to the mentality, determination and confidence. Barca played with 0 defenders last night so some tactics is also working there. Aw need to have plan B for certain circumstances.

i was merely highlighting the quote "past eight years.money does buy success."

2 subjects involved

1. 8 years of little spending, 8 trophy less years
2. money does success. keyword: does not will. case in point. chelsea, barcelona, inter, united and look where man city is now.

pls read the complete sentence thoroughly. don't just subject to selective reading;only looking at words or sentence u want to hear from preexisting assumptions. its very easy to come up with arguments to explain that money can't buy success but its not as easy to say that money doesn't help or will facilitate success.

then again, saying i don't like black doesn't mean i like white. how i wish the world is this simplistic.

Well my bad then.

"8 years of little spending, 8 trophy less years" does not mean it is correlate between this two. Even when we spend less, we were fighting on all fronts until a certain period where we lose our fire. And how less is less to you? I saw a post previously showing us spending around 30m and do you consider it as less? Like I said, there is other element to be considered as well.

Ignore it if you want. I can't even brain what I am trying to say.

Y u butthurt about schwarzer? Had we bought him, we might never see woj in our team. Probably he'll leave and be awesome somewhere else.

Some decision that AW made might be mind boggling but most of the time, it is ok. Same can't be said for the defensive line though.

I'm sorry that we have a "pea-sized" budget as u mentioned but that's the reality of the situation. Failed to bring us suCcess? What's ur definition of success here? No throphy the last 6 seasons? Is that it? So qualifying for ecl the past 15 yrs counts for nothing? Going all the way to final cc cup was nothing?

I have no problem with signing of AOC for 15mil. He's english, so he tends to be overpriced. I'd value him maybe 9 or 10mil tops. However, the kid looked good even in his short cameo at OT. I wouldn't go all out saying he's a bargain but he is AW type of signing.

Break the bank? Maybe we should... But for who? Hazard? He mentioned he's not leaving. Who else? I'd take scott parker but his injury record also same as gibbs. 3 good games, 5 games out. Jeeez

Rumors picking up steam... Awaiting arse.com announcements. We defo need 3 player at least, 4 is good, 5 is best! Cb+am+striker+lb. If 5, I'd take another dm.

15m is the potential full price including those top ups, clauses and what not for Ox-Tail soup. For all we know we might not need to pay that much and I doubt we will anyway so IMO we got him at a fair price. wink.gif

I feel Hazard is a tad overhyped and overrated. If you look at the numbers for last season on paper it looks like we got the better player in the form of Gervinho. I am not saying Hazard is a bad player, a player with huge potential certainly but I just don't think he is worth the 30m at the moment. Certainly not for a player who has just had one good season.

Unfortunately Scott Parker seems to be the target for Spurs at the moment and I think its highly likely he would sign for them.

A few UK Gooners has reported seeing a bunch of journos camping in front of the Emirates biggrin.gif

Word on twitter from them is they are expecting something big is gonna happen. A world class midfielder is the word making rounds amongst the journos but no names were given. I just hope this is true. We really need a big signing to galvanize everyone associated with the club at the moment.

For a team of Arsenal's stature, 6 years of not winning anything is 6 years of not having any success. Qualifying "for ecl the past 15 yrs" doest count for something. But does it count as success ? No.

From your point of view, any team in the UCL is success. ill be damned if all fans think of it that way. laugh.gif

Actually we do need another attacker. What if Van Persie, Walcott, Wilshere and Gervinho are all out due to injuries or suspension ? Who is gonna take over their role effectively ?

Sorry, I'm just being the devil's advocate here. blush.gif

if everthing still fail... then i really dunno wht is wrong already... then we have to check backroom staff...haha

frankly 8-2 is a humiliating thing but bottom of it its a revolution number for arsenal... rclxms.gif

I seriously don't think Hazard is worth that much realistically. That price tag is just Lille's way of saying "No. You can't have him."
