Keown's a great defender and will always be an Arsenal legend not only for his defending, but for goading Ruud Van Horseface.

But... What has he accomplished as a coach in comparison to Arsene Wenger?

I'm with bro Sakaito. I'm confident AW will turn our season around.

Wenger is considering a large cohort of targets in four positions - left back, centre back, central midfield and attack - with several negotiations ongoing. On Sunday evening the Arsenal manager called Yossi Benayoun to discuss the 31 year old's interest in leaving Chelsea for his club.

Left Back = ?
Centre Back = Cahill / Alex
Central Midfield = Benayoun / Mario Goetze
Attack = Park

"We are working hard to sign players," said Wenger who has been angered by criticism of Arsenal's recruitment efforts. " If we find the right players, we sign them. We have the money to sign them if they strengthen our team. We have 20 people to work on that."

Wenger is also under pressure from Stan Kroenke to spend impressively. Arsenal's new owner has been concerned by growing dissent among the club's support and falling demand for seats at the Emirates Stadium.

BTW interesting article on Arsenal transfer budget :-

CODE
Arsene Wenger has been told by the Arsenal board he can make full use of the estimated £90 (€103) million transfer kitty at his disposal in the final week of the transfer window, Goal.com can reveal.

The Gunners began the summer with a transfer budget of around €51.5m, which has been enhanced by the sales of Fabregas, Emmanuel Eboue, Gael Clichy and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and the impending €26.3m departure of Samir Nasri to Manchester City.

With just eight days of the window left, Wenger has signed only three players – Gervinho from Lille and teenagers Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson for a combined outlay of around €28m.

When Nasri’s transfer to City is completed, boardroom sources have told Goal.com that Arsenal will be one of the most cash-rich clubs in Europe with a total available kitty of €103m.

One of the main financial convenants agreed to by the club when they moved to Emirates Stadium states that at least 70 per cent of player sales proceeds has to be either spent on 'squad investment' or retained in a Transfer Proceeds Account to be used solely on buying players.

Although this €103m figure is believed to include the funds for first-year wages as well as the transfer fees of incoming players, Arsenal's wage bill is €11.4m-per-year lighter so far this summer following the exits of a handful of high earners.

In addition, Arsenal expect to make around €28.6m from the sale of apartments in Queenstown Road, which stands opposite Emirates Stadium. This property income acts as a safety net should Arsenal's budget instantly be reduced if they are knocked out of the Champions League by Udinese in their play-off second leg on Wednesday night.

Premier League clubs can expect to make a minimum €28.6m from participating in the group stages of the competition.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/596/exclusive/...-to-spend-if-he?

gee, Arsenal is one of the most cash rich clubs in europe and yet Wenger is so kiam sap. doh.gif
(in order to be rich, you have to be kiam sap like Wenger............. whistling.gif )

I guess without Wenger, Arsenal won't be as rich as today.

LB = Santos?

I really cant understand what AW is doing! If he wants to offload players...please ffs get rid djourou + diaby. Diaby is piece of shit and will never be a good player. It was a shame that people called him "Vieira 2nd gen".... whistling.gif

How long Park will be at Arsenal is unclear, as all able-bodied men in South Korea must begin military service for the country's armed forces before the age of 28. Unless the darling of the national team is excused service, he will have to leave Arsenal in 2013.

According to a BBC journo the deal with Santos has all but been agreed subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Park still has a few things to sort out.

https://twitter.com/#!/bbcsport_david

Btw it seems Elia is on his way as well. Juve has made an offer as well but has declared he would rather come to us.

Word going around we seem to have made an enquiry about Benayoun and a double bid for both Alex and Malouda also. Liverpool are also said to be interested in Benayoun.

the great Martin Keown prepares a blueprint for arsenal's rebuilding

Keown is the one of the few ex-players that always speaks sense.

I'm still quite sceptical about changing back to 442 (or 4411). With our current crop of players, a 3 man midfield with interchanging triangles is still more suitable; although I dread the static 4231 the most as it crowds the midfield yet leaves no one up front attacking the box.

However if we purchase adequate personnel in these last few days or in January, then maybe we could consider going back to a 4 man midfield. Fabregas-Flamini worked in 07/08 but I'm still cynical about Jack-Song or Jack-Ramsey... let alone Ramsey-Song.Theo is not suitable as an orthodox right winger, neither is Gervy on the left. We'll also need a partner for Robin up front and at the moment only Theo seems most appropriate. Maybe that's why we bought Park Chu Young.

As for Santos... can't say much about a player that we've rarely watched. But an experienced Brazillian international is definitely a safer bet than Traore who never really seemed to progress. Gibbs, when fit, is someone who's worth persisting with.

Resigning now will not do us any good, in fact it will put us into more turmoil and instability.

I don't think things are as easy as we read on the media - surely there must be more things under the table going on that we've never heard about that's impeding our transfer deals.

Like Liverpool in the early stages last season, we are in a situation where an overhaul in the team is required. We need new players, but we don't need to get rid of Arsene as he is still the best person who is used to operating in such restricted resources. Furthermore, not many managers will want to put themselves in deepshit where one's hands and feet are tied in every transfer, every dealings, every operations of the club.
