Got some chance to dump a quick sketch here. Bit too bright and blurry cause need to hide the white blanko part.

An update on that art I'd been working on. This character is pretty much finished, in terms of appearance:

This is very nice. biggrin.gif A bit "soft" on the shading for my tastes... but nothing wrong with that, I just personally prefer some hard edges in art smile.gif

@dragonreine: thanks.. and yours is awesome as well. i like the mood of it. and the details are "woah"

used soft shading for more femenine appearance XD makes her look gentler and more "godess" like brows.gif

@agito: i actually reduced the contrast and blurred it a little lol.. wanna make this look soft-soft macam cotton XD

Added on October 27, 2011, 12:34 ambtw @dragonreine.. how long did it took you to do those gold parts on the clothe behind the guy o.O.. it looks very very time consuming

@ Bonchi

Truth? Not as long as you might think. What I did was after laying down the basic "tube" shape for the piping (like what you see on the two gold lines at the lower half of the image), I drew the basic leaf pattern on a separate layer, duplicated and flipped it around so I get one very long string. This will be the base for the gold piping.

I then copy that layer (saving and hiding the original as backup), and using the Edit -> Transform tool, I shrunk and wrapped the pattern around to the necessary elements so it follows the shape of the form. After that, I handpainted in shading and the occasional highlights where I think it's necessary. Once I am satisfied with the patterning, I then drop some extra shading so it "curves" over the shape of the piping, erased/blurred some areas, and finally dropped all the layers down. As a finishing touch, I used the dodge/burn tools on some areas, to get hotspots where I want the eye to focus on.

It helps to work big, in this case. The painting is actually somewhat simple, but at this resolution, you don't really see it smile.gif

@ Agito:

Stiff, yes. I haven't quite managed to put "life" into my characters yet >_>

As for Wolf's Rain... The first has more "punch" in terms of colour, but it didn't suit the mood I was going for. As for cheekbones... the original character looks like this:

user posted image

The way they rendered it in-game, he doesn't actually have cheeks like people do.

I will, however, admit that I royally messed up his lower face and his eye, so the perspective is thrown off.

<--- still beginner.

Personally, I think the face characteristic is a little generic like following a set of template or something. Or is it because it feels too symetrical that it looks inorganic. But mostly stiff like what agito said but that perhaps have to do with the solid heavy paint. Could be just personal taste.

@h4x your sketches are good until the colouring part,I think u need to sharpen up more on your colouring skill, and the fold lines of the attire,a bit sharp,I feel u bro,my fold lines are sucks too.

@daddy nice doodle there,I like the fact your doodles are not fixed to a standing, sitting and those other mundane typically seen poses,it gives fluids to your character making it not stiff and much more alive.

@agito okay this is something new from you,I see your shadings and tones are different this time, this looks better, especially the abs, though needs more details. One more, can you post some serious art please, keep seeing you post doodles, haih.

edit: oh @generivmav,didnt see urs just now, hmmm okay, cant comment anything, this is like the most simple form of anime, though u need to work on the fingers more, would love if u add more details.

Sketched and inked with a fine 0.3 pen I found lying around...
Had to take a picture with my phone then adjusted amateur-ly with photoshop.
Scanners not with me now..

Wanna color it but I've got no tablet..

Planning to get a Wacom Bamboo for Rm299 - ish, but are those Genius G-pens any good?
Could save me some $$. blush.gif

speaking of which.. has anyone tried using both bamboo and intuos? mind sharing your user experience.. issit worth upgrading to intuos eventhough youre just draw as hobby only? cuz i feel like there's limitations in the bamboo(prolly the reso and the preasure sensitivity).. its kinda holding me down especially during detailing
