Every team has their fair share of pretenders, divers, contact exaggerators, going down easy and all. It's sadly become part and parcel of the game. It is just stupid how some people be hyprocrites (I'm not saying any of us here but more like in general) and blast the Barca players when their teams have them as well.

Sometimes, it's impossible to tell whether a person slipped or not because the pitches are watered during half time and before game (some pitches at least) and I've played football in watery pitches as well and a simple turn or even when you try to accelerate can result in a slip. And of course, it's simple common sense that when you're running, you're less stable.

Anyways let's enjoy a young Leo and Cesc pic!

He current holds these records:

1. Barcelona Record Goalscorer: 240 goals
2. Barcelona Record Goalscorer in UEFA Champions League: 51 goals
3. Barcelona Record Goalscorer in European Competitions: 52 goals
4. Barcelona Record Goalscorer in international Competitions: 56 goals
5. One of five players to have won the Champions League three times (although he did not take the field in the 2006 final).
6. Club record of scoring five goals in a Champions League game.

Records he can still break:

1. Cesar Rodriguez's Barcelona's record of 192 goals in La Liga (league football). (Messi is on 158)
2. Josep Samitier's Copa del Rey record of 65 goals. (Messi is on 19)
3. Laszlo Kubala (Barcelona) scored seven in a La Liga match against Sporting Gijon in 1951/1952. (Messi's five is his best)
4. Paulino Alcantara did score 369 goals for Barcelona in all games including friendlies.
5. Gerd Muller's 67 goals for Bayern Munich in 1972-73. (Messi is on 61 at the moment)
6. All time appearances (622 games in all competitions, 409 in La Liga, 138 in Europe currently held by Xavi Hernandez and is on going)
7. Most La Liga titles by a Barcelona player Xavi and Pep Guardiola have six with Xavi able to increase that amount (Messi is on five)
8. Could set a new record for most Champions League titles by a Barcelona player if he wins one more.
9. Francisco Gento won the European Cup six times between 1956 and 1966 for Real Madrid.
10. Should Barcelona remain at their current level both that, and the record of eight final appearances that Gento shares with Paolo Maldini.
11. Gento's total of 12 Spanish titles. (Messi has five)
12. Raul's total of 71 represents the highest in European Cup/Champions League history - Messi is on 51 - and his 76 is the record in all European competitions, with Messi on 52.
13. Jose Altafini and Ruud van Nistelrooy of scoring 14 goals in a European Cup or Champions League season. (Messi has 14 as well but needs one to beat that.)
14. Athletic Bilbao forward Telmo Zarra's total of 251 career goals is the all-time highest in La Liga.
15. Gabriel Batistuta's record goalscorer for Argentina with 56 goals. (Messi is on 22 )
16. Javier Zanetti's record appearances for Argentina with 145 games. (Messi is on 68)

I'm not a barca fan. But why the heck pele rates neymar better than messi? Very stupid of him....Messi has won everything at club level and even won the ballon D'Or 3 times. Neymar may be one of the most talented football player of earth, but oh well he's not even proven himself yet. Not even in a top europe club yet nor will titles yet.

Neymar > Messi? LoL..joke of the year.
*
It's because Pele is Brazillian and he'll probably back Neymar, the same Diego Maradona will back Lionel Messi.

But I agree, I think it was just stupid to say 'Messi must be better than Neymar first'. Come on, Pele, Messi scored a hat trick against Real Madrid when he was 19.

He has achieved so much in his 7-8 year career than most players will all their live.

Messi needs 5 goals to break Gerd Muller's record of 67 goals in a season.

Come on, Leo, just two more hat tricks.

I have never seen such a one sided game where the dominant side did not win.

The Stamford Bridge pitch is tight and compact. There's no space when they crowd it.

Chelsea defended very well and scored from their only shot on goal. Barcelona had the better chances (hit woodwork twice and Fabregas chip) but they couldn't break down Chelsea's defence.

Beg to differ there. That shows we have found through their defence a number of times, although we weren't at our highest intensity. I think we played absolutely well. We just didn't have luck. The players knew it, hence the wry smiles on their faces.

I'm absolutely positive for the return leg smile.gif

No doubt Barcelona had the better of chances but they had so much of the ball but when I see Messi gets the ball, there's 8 players he has to get passed!!

Two shots hitting the woodwork, goal bound shot cleared off the line and opponent scoring from their only shot on target. Sums up Liverpool's season XD

Just to prove we aint sore losers, or oni know how to complain etc etc (idea that jose plants into you fanbois heads).. Chelsea deserved it, luck played a massive part, but you won it fair and square, unlike some other teams (u know who) who stamp and shove at the first opportunity. So i think, and i hope many here will agree, they deserve all the credit, good game, and see u in camp nou, if that game is played cleanly like this one, and we lose, i will be the first to congratulate you. smile.gif
*
You are right. Chelsea defended in numbers. They got their goal from their only shot on target but they were dominated by Barcelona at home, who enjoyed almost 80% possession and had like 25 shots. We were unlucky as well, hitting the woodwork twice and having a ball cleared off the line.

Take nothing away from Chelsea, though, they worked hard and got the result they want. We didn't play badly but we just didn't score a goal.

QUOTE(matyrze @ Apr 19 2012, 05:40 AM)
I don't believe in relying on the final score to judge the performance of a team.

For the number of interceptions Chelsea made, it is not a revelation. In fact, it is expected by everyone, considering the number of bodies they threw at the back. And despite of the bus, we still had found our way through their defence. Do you get my POV?

And how was our number of chance kept at minimal? If we convert one of our chances you won't be singing the same tune. Yes the fact is we didn't score. I just want to point out that how ordinary and brilliant gameplays (especially defending) are only separated by a very very thin line these days.
*
Spot on as well. You can't judge a game based on the score line. I have never seen such a one sided game where the team that dominated did not win!

We had the better of chances but we just didn't make them count.

QUOTE(Quick` @ Apr 19 2012, 08:09 AM)
Do take note i am not a Chelsea fan, just a neutral that is really impressed with Chelsea game play this morning

You kidding me? of course Chelsea can only keep Barce contain to a certain extend,
If by your definition, on and off for sure Barcelona succeeds in breaking through Chelsea defense
(To me breaking a defense down, is only accountable when u score goals, Barce had a few half-a-chance as the last few minutes where Barce hit the post is imo just half a chance, and half a chance to clear cut chance is a whole different level)

You guys are Barcelona mate! arguably the best attking football club in the world, Which club can possibly "completely" neutralize a team like Barce to not by pass the opposition defence? maybe there is like what hotgary said in La Liga,...but how many are there? even if there is, how often does it happen?

to say Chelsea is expected to make all the blockings, yes is true, but i watch the PL often that tonight is one of the games where Chelsea interception/block - count/success rate is one of the highest ever, that i did not expect to happen.

i think you and i both know in football "If" is a very big word, I think we've gone through all the if's in our life before, but the fact that Barcelona did not score tonight i guess it is rather inappropriate to use that now.

Put it to simpler terms:

What was Expected :
-Barce to win as they were favorites, don't ask me how i know this, from media to betting odds
despite playing at stamford brigde, i find the odds against Chelsea quite degrading  sweat.gif
-Barce to score at a goal or more
-Chelsea to intercept balls, block shots

What was Unexpected -
-Chelsea winning the game
-Chelsea got a clean sheet, Barce fail to score
-Chelsea to intercept balls, and block shots that good

The points above may not be significant as one, but if you take them all tiny bits & pieces and accumulate it, Chelsea emerge superior winner.  Against Barcelona, a very thin line means everything! There is no thrashing to Barcelona thou i'd love to see that happen some day for the love of football.
*
No doubt Barcelona is arguably the best attacking side in world football but you just can't win them all. They probably "deserved to" but football has nothing to do with it as it has time and time proved again that anything is possible.

I have to be honest and agree that Chelsea were not expected to win, though but they defended in numbers (not exactly well) but they got bodies in the way, which in the end, managed to "neutralise" Barca from scoring.

Barca did everything as usual - hold the ball, have high possession, create chances but we just did not score a goal.

p/s - it's so weird to use 'we' as, as the signature shows, I'm a die hard Liverpool fan but I do like Barcelona as well. Maybe even a glory hunter if you'd like XD

Looks like La Liga title is heading to Madrid cause I can't see them losing all their games. One win is enough to secure the title.

It was kinda the same story like Wednesday. Had sooooo much of the ball but not penetrative enough in the final third. Also alot of sloppy passes. The first goal could have been prevented if Puyol had chosen to kick it instead of blocking Khedira for Valdes to come.

Pep shouldn't have made Busquets and Mascherano centre backs. I mean, the back four was like a puzzle .. one minute it was Adriano-Mascherano-Busquets-Puyol, then suddenly Adriano-Mascherano-Puyol-Alves or suddenly just Adriano-Mascherano-Puyol or Mascherano-Busquets-Puyol.

Mascherano has played there before, fair enough but why play him when there's a 6 foot + tall Gerard Pique. Or at least play Pique beside Masch or just stick with Masch-Puyol.

The defense was okay but it was the set pieces which posed a threat because the tallest player on the pitch for us was Busquets.

People need to give Christian Tello a break. He's only 20 years old. I felt he shouldn't have started and either Cesc or (but preferably) Alexis should have started instead. It's not that Tello is a bad player .. he's good and he has a lot of potential but this was too big of an occasion for him. He played like a real rookie, trying to use his pace against a very good Alvaro Arbeloa but Arby read it time and time again. There was one chance Tello could have taken a touch and chose his spot but made the decision to take it first time and the chance had gone. It is not his fault but he's just young and inexperience, especially when playing an el classico.

It seems as though teams have found the way to stopped Barca in their goal box. Could hardly muster a shot, just like against Chelsea. David Villa is sorely missed. Him, Messi and Sanchez are probably the best attacking trio because Messi isn't an out and out striker.

probably rotating sancchez so that he'll be 100% fit to face chelsea later?

Resting Cesc and Alexis for that would make sense but it is always better to get the job done with your best eleven than having to bring on your better players when you are chasing the game.

Also, they don't need to travel for the game because today's game was at Nou Camp and the Chelsea game is also at Nou Camp.

Madrid wins the league because they played much better than we did against the other teams. The score is 1-1 between the two El Classicos.

But if .. (very big if) Barcelona wins the Champions League and Copa Del Rey .. I dont think Pep will mind too much with the Spanish Super Cup and Club World Cup already in the cabinet.

For some reason I feel we are missing something in the final third. Not sure what it is .. I know Messi still has 63 goals all season but something is just missing, maybe it's David Villa!

Well, can't expect Barca to be winning everything for 4 years. It eventually has to come to an end and this season, have lost the UEFA Champions League and very likely to lose the La Liga.

Well, even so, I still regard Barcelona as the best footballing team I have ever seen in my entire life up to now.

Winning is very important but no one can take the fact away they have the skill, the brilliance, the ability and the beauty of the game.
