To be honest with you, I feel where I studied didn't really make a difference to me lol.

I'd probably be the same now even if I came out of Caltech, albeit with more bragging rights  laugh.gif

Migrating to australia now is not a good time. Unemployment is now marginally higher than the US at 6%,if you include underemployment,is around 13-15%, iron ore.price halved,so mining is in trouble, oil and gas also affected, manufacturing jobs is dwindling with all car factories shutting down with ancillary companies by 2016 and 2017 and the stupid Abbort govt and practcing dumb EU style austerity which has contracted govt spending ,causing fiscal policy failure.

If you want to work there with good job security, try join education as lecturer or research assistant, used to be easy to get for foreign grads into research assistant positions coz aussie think research assitant pay is not much but now they aussies want RA positions with the current economy situation.

Australia is a nice place blue sky, clean streets and apparently no corruption. But it is very bloody expensice, rent and utilities can wipe out your entry level salary, houses are expensive....many middle class migrants from india and china and other developing countriws came, stayed 2 years looking fir jobs and wiping out their life savings...some end up becoming bus drivers and taxi drivers.mind you, Last year, a copule of aussies died due to hypothermia during winter while sleeping in their car, so having a shelter is important unless u arebin warm perth, darwin and queensland. If you think you can beg for centrwlink welfare, they have revised the dolw system that many cant afford to rent their own rooms with the jobseekers allowance.

The only ones becoming PR now are one.who are rich, can afford the PR and visa fees, open a shell business to get business visa and have connection to get jobs...meritocracy wont work all the time in the lucky country...networking isnimpirtant, ask ur relatives if they are crony of some business owning or corporate aussie guys or kbow some malaysians already there who can at least hwlp you settle down. Linking with Malaysian student associations there would be helpful too even if its the UMNO overseas club...

Not to say its impossible, but its tougher. Do your own research before making the big leap whether as an individual or as a family. Migrating there will cost alot of money and you may have to start all over again and your children may not adapt well to the environment..so you need to wear many hats at the same time.

In that respects malaysia is no better for employment now, retrenchment is industry wide, you don't hear about it cause many firms reluctant to make information public because of share price.

Personal security for the average malaysian is at an all time low, (im not speaking of those in gated RM1.5 mill homes).

Many jobs currently are going to foreigners and im not talking about labor intensive jobs. Like happening in singapore with the Indians/Filipinos flooding the market and taking local jobs cause their wages are much much lower.

Just because you don't read about it in the papers does not mean its not happening.

Yes Australia is having a tough time now , the economy is bad and expected to get worst, with all that my wife still got a job 3 weeks into job hunting and its a full time permanent position. * she was not picky , the salary more then pays for rent , food and misc. My kid loves school compared to here , so go figure .

If you're gonna go with expectations , you're gonna be extremely dissapointed, If you are gonna go thinking you can maintain you're current position , title etc better don't go.

If you cant live without a maid and 24 hrs mamak please dont go

By the way im still in MY and gonna be bangla in aussie come september , joining the wife and kids

Got your point. It ain't the best time to migrate now but it ain't the best time to stay in Malaysia either. So, whatever decision made, have faith. Migration is always a personal decision so choose wisely cool2.gif

Having said that, bus drivers and fast food workers can still make a modest living. Our family delivered pamphlets when we first arrived as additional income, and both of us uni grads....

No 24x7 mamak and maid!! What???!!! No roti canai at 3am? And no maid to cuci tandas and make kopi? How can????
