I think it's either the modchip or lens dying, or both.
Older modchip may have problems loading newer games.

A good place to repair? If you bother to read the other posts...
It's either djinn or tot31. PM them.

tot31 is a PS2 enthusiast/hobbyist (with skills to fix PS2 of course) whilst djinn owns(or employed by?) 2 videogame stores.

so take your pick.

Please mentioned your PS2 model wether 3000 or 5000 series...
Last time i've send my Ps2 to tot31 for lens replacement and was charged for RM 300 not RM 380, pretty good job siap dgn tuning. Certail models have other problems other than the lens or modchip like the 5000 series. ( i think LBA chip..correct if i'm wrong! ).

Basically kalau mahal sangat..buy a new slim ps2 console and since probably some of the older stuffs like controller and memory card is usable..just buy only the console..cheaper!

And bear in mind that nowadays it's hard to find a new lens replacement for the fat PS2. So I think the shop was trying to con you.
What ID thingy btw?

hi guys, 1st of all this thread is pretty helpful, and after reading most of it, i found that my ps2 have some similar problems. but just to be sure i'll ask to be safe. sad.gif

currently, my almost 2 year old ps2(fat) is giving headache. so far almost all new ahem games i buy no prob when loading, but recently i decided to play some older games to kill time, and found out most of it very hard to load. need to keep on reset many times only it will work. note that the dvds, although about a year old, were hardly or not scratched at all, and yet it takes multiple tries to load the game. cry.gif

new games that i just bought recently 95% works at 1st attempt. and my very 1st game, ffx, the disc so old(3-4years old, this is my 2nd ps2), can load on 1st attempt. so damn weird. doh.gif

anyway, the main question is, around how much do i need to fork out to fix it? i think my prob is similar to kyran's prob, but just wanna make sure anyway, must careful. thx. notworthy.gif

i have personally left on my ps2,psx,and micro genius on for a few hours(static image-game paused) the only thing that happened(bad thing) was the micro genius-the colour stayed on screen for quite sometime... sweat.gif
but psx onwards,no problems..

btw,the micro genius,psx were on a normal tv,and the ps2 was on a projection tv... smile.gif

Just a friendly reminder, those who are planning to buy a new ps2 (slim model), its recommended that you fork out extra cash to buy the stand and the USB fan.

I bought those for my new ps2 and up to now, i manage to play games for 6 hours straight without any hangs or problems at all thumbup.gif

^ Really? But what's the stand for? I've got my PS2 running 5 hours MAX and still nothing happens. But I'm still thinking of getting the fan though just to be safe and maybe can play longer (8 hours maybe? tongue.gif )
