I had my ps2 for 2-3 years and recently I was returning a game to a shop fella because I cant load the game.

before that i notice my disc had a noticable calar in encircling it.
user posted image

later then the shop aunty explain to me that my ps2 ribbon is going to spoil and she charge me RM60 if I repair it at her place.

i don't want I was to be overcharge of it and I doubt the shop can be trusted or not if i send for it to repair as they might change some of the part for me,who knows?

any recommendation of shop to be send to repair,or this is a just a small problem can be DIY? appreciate everyone help  smile.gif

hey bro, i oso wanna know how to c whether the controller is original or not... any1 can help here... thx.
*
Lets say u r looking at the right thumbstick. On its 1 or 2 o'clock direction there is a curve. If the curve is round-ish in shape then is original, else if the curve is more to staright line instead of round curve then might be fake one. This rule applies few years back then, not sure about now though.

This thread is so dead. Everyone proceed to enjoy next gen console, sigh.

thx for the info bro... yah, as every1 is hot on ps3 or xbox 360... really dun have that budget... sigh... and just wanna to get a affordable console to play with my family... btw, do u mind to share with me anythings that i need to know b4 getting the set? read some previous post, said about the modded chip... how do i check the modded chip b4 purchase and wat is the best modded chip i should get to playy all the available games...
*
There is no point in checking the mod chip since the chip is already installed. Mostly the installed mod chip is clone one so if u plan to use the original modchip u have to buy both unmodded ps2 and ori mod chip online and install it urself.

Mod chip isn't the main concern, but the lens is. Sony console is famous for its lens problem so it's best to get the japanese unit as american unit is easily infected with "dead beef syndrome" back then. Japanese ps2 has the best lens compare to other region's ps2. U can check the region by looking at the numbering such as "SCPH9xxxx". Mine is "SCPH70006" so i'm unsure about the latest 9xxxx series though.

Mine come with 1 ori n 1 fake controller. The quality of the fake isnt that bad afterall since i'm using it all the time and is still functional.

The latest slim 9xxxx series have the adaptor integrated in the unit itself so u wont get the adaoptor in the package.

will try to check the series b4 buying then... btw, is it possible to check the region by looking at the box?

heard that the PQ is not good when connect to HDTV, correct? PS2 doesn't support HDMI ah?
*
The box should have the numbering printed on them, so no doubt u can confirm it by just a glance on it. U should google it yourself on the regional numbering based on latest SCPH9xxxx series since i'm unfamiliar with it.

Regarding the picture quality I'm not sure but I heard that it support HD in the movie mode. I dont think it'll be that bad for games too! U should see it yourself if possible. It's too early to judge if u don have any idea on it.

just wanna to ask..can ps2 play wit pc monitor??
*
If not mistaken...yes!

Just that u might need converter of some sort to connect to your pc monitor.

First option is to use the tv box! Never heard of it? Well it's a connection box which can accept the s-video or the normal yellow port for the tv. One end for accepting the tv input and another end for outputting the vid info to the pc through USB. That is external tv box. U can check the back of your pc whether it has the internal tv box already installed or not. If it has the yellow-white-red port then it's already came preloaded. All u have to do is download the DScaler software(if not mistaken) and use it with your pc & ps2! If u still have no idea of what external tv box is, then googled "Hauppauge WinTV"!

Another option is to use the converter cable for ps2. The cable is rare and hard-to-find nowadays I believe, and probably isn't cheap as well. The only upside of this is that it connects directly to the monitor instead of the pc.

What do u mean? U mean the disc wont spin even after u close the tray? Look carefully at the tray(cover) when u open it. There is a plastic which protudes downward that goes into the hole when u close the disc tray. Press hard(downwards) on that part when u close the tray and eventually the ps2 might be able to receive the hint that there is a disc inside and that the tray is closed. Of course dont give it excessive force to the extend that it'll break ur ps2. Try it few times. If that doesn't solve the problem then maybe u have a dead motor. I guess the motor used in these system are brushed motor.

Btw my ps2 had the scrathing problem too. Sony sucks at making proper optical reader. My bro's Xbox was used a lot more often than my ps2 yet his Xbot is still in good and functional shape. I dont quite remember, but they have mention about white cogs or something which related to this problem few years back. I dont think I can dig out the older 2005 threads.

It is a shop, dude. Bernard Moh own it if I'm not mistaken(unsure since I dont live in KL). U can also try pm e-kai(or izzit ekai?) to see whether he can help out with the technical details or not.

I'm not sure, but I heard holding down a combination of buttons of some sort upon powering up the ps2 will bring up the modchip menu few years back. Something like square + triangle or similar. But it might BREAK ur ps2 if u change the settings!

Oh wow! After seeing those words I dare not to put the newly bought persona 4 into my ps2 anymore! Guess maybe they have include some steps to check and kill the machine if modchip is detected, sorta.
