Apart being given a hot towel for cleaning our hands. They served a love shaped tamago for each of us as appetizer too.

Sake Sashimi @RM49.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - At last I am here for their sashimi. It is not that I do not want to order my usual sashimi moriawase, it is just that they said they only have salmon, tuna and mackerel only. I do not wish to pay over RM200++ with only 3 kinds. So I rather pick the famous and always that delicious, Salmon Sashimi. The thickness of the meat is not like those I usually have.

Unagi Temaki @RM9.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Taste good for me or maybe I am very hungry at that time.

California Roll @RM7.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - Most important for a temaki for me is the seaweed wrapper must not be stale and must have crunchy bits inside. As for this, it does not have.

user posted image
Tencha Soba @RM25.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - They are still better with their noodles. Very deliciously done cha soba and well fried tempura. But my beloved Ailin spoiled the soba by soaking the whole noodle in for me to eat. Too salty.

Fresh Oyster @RM65.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - The waitress claimed that their seafood are supplied in daily basis but once I tasted this fresh oysters, I doubt it is supplied daily. Or it is really supply daily but the supplier's goods are not fresh. Furthermore, the meat is not that big for my teeth to enjoy chewing.

Ambiance: 5/5
Service: 4/5
Food Serving Speed: Moderate
Recommended?: Yes but no their sashimi

Honestly, I really cannot keep up with so many Japanese restaurant around in just KL City. Furthermore , hotels are essential to open an "a-la carte" type of restaurant to add "one" star rating. Most of the hotels will choose between Chinese restaurant, Japanese restaurant, Middle East restaurant, Korean Restaurant and other infamous ones. Usually Western Restaurants are not included because they usually served in hotel's "buffet style". Unless, they open another restaurant which is meant for "ala-carte" only like what Le Meridien, KL Sentral did. Most of the hotels will think choosing another western restaurant is a waste of space and reduce the food choices. Therefore, among all the other selections, Japanese Restaurant will come out as the best choices after Chinese restaurants. So can you imagine how many Japanese Restaurants out there when include together with the hotel? blink.gif

Anyway, I do hope anyone who have their experience in any Japanese restaurants to share together so we can gather all the information about Japanese Restaurant at the same time. This is teamwork. smile.gif

@astahiem, I will be waiting for your review on Xenri ya? smile.gif

u need to find out the main dishes you want to wallop in the buffet to help you decide. some buffets are good for variety, some have great sashimi etc
For me I choose the one with the freshest sashimi.

"Okay,... i have to admit that i dont normally like tempura coz they have lotsa flour and usually tasteless or not so much taste. This tempura......i LOVE it. Not too much flour and...i'm not sure it is the flavouring added to it or the freshness of the prawn -ICHIBAN !"

Kakiage @RM2.00
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - Kakiage is a type of tempura which is made from mixed vegetables strip such as onions, carrots and burdocks. Sometimes it contains prawns. But not for this one. My friend said it taste good but I never like a deep fried food so my comment on this will be bias.

House Special Udon (Cold) @RM6.00
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 2/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - This is their signature udon which has the udon and egg only. Their noodle taste not bad at all. It is just too empty for a bowl like this.

user posted image
Oyako Don @RM10.00
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Delicious chicken mixing with their Japanese rice!

Nabeyaki @RM10.00

Price: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - More ingredients inside the hot pot with delicious udon mee.

Oyako Udon (Hot) @RM10.00

Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Same like Oyako Don. The difference is just udon and rice.

Ambiance: 3/5
Service: 3/5
Food Serving Speed: Fast
Recommended?: Yes, will try their yakitori if got the chance.

Sashimi Moriawase @RM80.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - As always, I prefer only fish for my Sashimi Moriawase. All very delicious but not as thick as I used to blog in other Japanese Restaurant such as Kampachi and Fukuya. The freshness and quality of the meat is just excellent! The best of all, this is the cheapest Sashimi Moriawase I ever had.

Grilled Salmon & Ikura Temaki @RM18.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - I just love the Ikura popping repeatedly inside my mouth! The salmon is well grilled to accompany with my crispy seaweed wrapper.

Natto Temaki @RM8.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - I do not why their Temaki is not in the standard size. This one is very obviously smaller than Grilled Salmon & Ikura Temaki. Nothing special about the taste. I am ordering this because they no longer have a soft-shell crab temaki.

user posted image
Unagi Kabayaki @RM45.00++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - The unagi is simply delicious. The sauce for it is well blended because some of the restaurants' unagi sauce are salty. However, the price is quite scary.

Curry Udon @RM30.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - Suddenly feel like having a Japanese curry. When I had the first bite, I really enjoyed it until I finished. After that, I felt so thirsty and drink a lot of green tea. The reason is not because it is spicy but it is just too much MSG in it!!! Gosh!!! RM30.00++ for a mee some more...not worth.

user posted image
Inaniwa Tsuke Udon (cold) @RM30.00++

user posted image
It comes together with a chicken soup.
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Unlike other cold noodles like soba which you will be given a sauce. But this one you are given a chicken soup to dip your noodle. The Inaniwa noodle is very delicious indeed. Smooth and tangy noodles. Splendid! However, as for the chicken soup...haihhhh....they just love to have MSG in their soup...miso style

Ambiance: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Food Serving Speed: Slow
Recommended?: You may try at least once but will not want to revisit

Morning/Quick lunch/Dinner

Just buy those cup noodles from nearby 7-11, Family Mart, Lawson or even Aeon Superarket (I found AEON giving the most competitive rate but they are not 24hrs)
This cup noodle cost 168yen but there are smaller cup oodle too selling ~ 100yen till 250yen

Also for those wanna meal on the go & dunwan restaurant food, also can buy thoe Bento set & heat-up there instantly & eat inside those convenient shops. Well price are almost similar to the real stuff selling in those budget chain restaurants that I ate (Check after this post). The price of cold /non-heated bento set from 300-450yen:

Proper Lunch/Dinner

Shinjuku -For Noodles & small choices of rice. Try Sanko Near Shinjuku Post Office & beside the Oval high rises district. This is like no frill concept. You can choose plain Udon & thereafter choose the tempura as topping. Or you can choose set.. You can even get the rice wth mince pork for only 200yen here!!

Farmers in contaminated areas in Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, and Chiba continue to farm, and the government is busy setting up one PR campaign after another to appeal safety of things produced in Japan. The media do report, but unless your information comes from the net only, the news gets buried in the cacophony of mind-numbing small news of no significance on TV and print media.

Here's the list of food items that I found which exceeded the new safety limit of 100 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium:

Shiitake mushrooms: 350 becquerels/kg from Murata-cho, Miyagi Prefecture

Bamboo shoots: 120 becquerels/kg from Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture; 110 becquerels/kg from Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture

Bamboo shoots: 130 becquerels/kg from Sakae-cho, Chiba Prefecture; 170 becquerels/kg from Abiko City, Chiba Prefecture

"Komon Kasube" (common skete): 640 becquerels/kg, test fishing off the coast of Iwaki City, Fukushima

Beef: 106 becquerels/kg from Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture (the cattle had to eat the feed (rye) with 772 becquerels/kg of cesium...)

"Suzuki" (sea bass): 104 becquerels/kg in Sendai Bay, Miyagi Prefecture

Shiitake mushrooms: 146 becquerels/kg from Shirosato-machi, Ibaraki Prefecture; 131 becquerels/kg from Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture

"Wakasagi" (pond smelt): 426 becquerels/kg from Akagi Onuma in Gunma Prefecture

Source:
1, 2, 4: Nikkei Shinbun (4/4/2012)
3: Chiba Prefecture press release (4/5/2012)
5: Yomiuri Shinbun (4/5/2012), Gunma Prefecture press release (4/5/2012) for meat, and for feed
6: Miyagi Prefecture press release (4/4/2012)
7: Ibaraki Prefecture press release (4/2/2012)
8: Kyodo News (4/3/2012)

All these food items (except for No. 4) would have been freely sold and bought, as "safe", under the old, provisional safety limit that was in effect up till April 1, 2012. Checking the prefectures' press releases, there are many other whose cesium levels are barely under 100 becquerels/kg.

In case of Gunma Prefecture, they use NaI scintillation survey meter with detection limit of about 30 becquerels/kg. Only when the meat is found with cesium exceeding the rather high detection limit, they use their germanium semiconductor detector.

This happened last month in March, but a kindergarten in Okazaki City in Aichi Prefecture (whose governor is pushing Toyota to become the final disposal site for disaster debris ashes) served lunch to kindergarteners using dried shiitake with 1,400 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium from Ibaraki Prefecture. 30 kilograms of these shiitake are either in the markets or have already been purchased by customers in Okazaki City.
