Mitasu is terrible. Whoever recommends it must not know how to appreciate Jap food

Well the chef is supposedly a 3 star michellin holder for his restaurant in Japan, which is booked out til 2017 ohmy.gif

He'll be spending some time here every few months, so you need to book in advance if you want him to personally be preparing your meal.

An acquaintance of mine went, said it's worth it, but who wouldn't say so after spending that hahah. Price in KL is double what he charges in Japan ...

hello. my favourite jap restaurant for ala carte buffet last time was Equatorial. Then apparently the ex-staff open Munakata at Life Centre. Apparently it is closed. What i love is the simple all japanese menu. Nothing fancy, focusing on quality sashimi, soft shell crab etc...

Any recommendation on ala-carte buffet around PJ/KL/Subang area ? Priority on freshness of sashimi (salmon, butterfish, tuna)

Agree!!! Most Jap restaurants these days are adding in modern twist so it's really different. Kampachi in other branches are not the same as the Sunday buffet at Kampachi Equatorial. I don't think I can love any other buffets the same way ever. sad.gif

Apart from that, Ichiro Sushi Bar at 1U is pretty good too.

I've been going to Shin Zushi at Jalil Link since it's near my place. Small cosy restaraunt owned by Japanese. Full house daily with people waiting for tables outside.

Authentic, reasonably priced and delicious.

Huhu who doesn't know good thing about japanese food is delicious and bad thing is expensive?

Btw i like the Sakura Fuji at shah alam masalam center. I've seen many japanese expatriates dining there.

Food is halal but they serve sake separately.

actually why is jap high end dining so expensive? is it because of the rare sashimi ingredients that they use? or is it the chef has some special slicing skills with the knife? how is the high price justifed?

I think you got all the points right. Maybe they hire skilled chef with high paid salary compared to sushi mentai where most crews are foreigners. Skilled chefs know how to cut the fillet out of a whole imported frozen fish to prepare better tasting sashimi. Normal crews are trained to do their repetitive tasks but skilled chefs learned every aspect of japanese food.

Sushi mentai price is reasonable but tastewise still can not compare to japanese fine dining where every menu is specially catered. Other factors maybe rental, decor, special utensil, real ingredients etc.
