well, for one, they can do alot of things during the night. every hedgehog have their own characteristics although most of them are the same, there are some "weird" ones and normal ones just like humans. i wouldnt be surprised if i see a hedgehog peeing while walking/running around. as long as there is nothing worth keeping an eye on, i can tell that the hog is okay. another possibility could be there is something disturbing it, say a rat/lizard knocking on the glass scaring it? thats why it makes sounds
nothing much to worry about that tho, dry poop is rather normal, wet poop is worrying. if u are really still concerned, maybe u can try wetting the food before feeding it? not until the food is super wet tho, just a dip in the water. or maybe your drink plate is too high / uncomfortable for the hog to reach, thats why it is more reluctant to drink

Glad to know nothing is wrong. Thanks! =)

I have no idea the exact time he sleeps as it varies. Sometimes I'll catch him sleeping from 9am to 12.45am. Sometimes it's from 8am to 11pm. I tend to sleep early, from 11-12 or earlier so I'm not absolutely sure. He wakes up couple of times in the day to eat and drink as well. I also keeps him awake around 8-9pm to socialize with him, but he'll go back to sleep after that.

I provide 12-14 hours light to my hedgehog though.

its actually nothing to worry about, u did provide a hidebox right. there will be sufficient darkness inside for it to get some real eye shut. just like dogs they're more aware than humans so they can look like they're not sleeping but they are wink.gif

Do you have a wheel? My hedgehog usually wakes up after I sleep. So I usually use his poop smeared wheel as an indication. Did you try picking him up in the morning? I'm new owner as well so Im not well verse about WHS.

From my observation, when I pick him up in the morning 8am, he will run around, that's how I check his activity level other than checking wheel. In the evening 5-8pm, he won't run much, instead he'll sleep on my palm if he's still sleepy.

they wake up because its their "up" time not because they are not sleeping well. my guess is u're over worrying. that syndrome doesnt really happen much, its just like down syndrome for humans, only 1 hedgehog will get it out of 100.

i'd say your hedgehog is rather normal, staying up at night IS THEIR WAY. they are noctural creatures. another way for me to be more convincing, notice when u wake your hedgie up in the morning/afternoon/ "down" time, they would usually stretch themselves/unhappy way of waking up/small small eyes/wanting to go back to sleep face? its just like us being made awake in the middle of the night.
if u notice when they wake up in the middle of the night, a.k.a their "up" time it would be more natural instead of looking grumpy, they will look more energetic.

i'd say, after your daily activities, give it 6pm 8pm that is the best time to play with your hog. as for me i play with it usually before bed around 11.30pm. it just always runs around in its tank while waiting for me to pick it up. when i wake up at 9am it doesnt even bother to come out and look at me. thats them for you smile.gif

Hi guys, I haven't gotten into hedgehog yet.
But wanna ask if I doesn't feed it with mealworm/crickets, does that will cause them to have nutrient deficiency ?

not really, u can give them something else that contain equivalent of nutrients. its just that mealworm/crickets have high nutrient with a cheap price.
