my room temp peak at 31, seems fine, but they seems to be drinking extra water if weather is hot.

Help needed. Where can I buy hamster in Bukit Mertajam or Seberang Perai area? Prefers a decent pet shop that also sell cage and accessories. A bit reluctant to travel to CTY on the island unless no choice. Thanks.

This thread seems very quiet although it is already v14. Where everyone went to nowadays? Sugar Glider? FB? Anyway, in case someone poke in, I have question about tank height. Read that hamster can jump out from tank. How tall a tank is required? I custom order 2ft L x 2ft W x 1.5ft H tank. Is 1.5ft height is sufficient? Thanks.

Planning on getting a Syrian for my daughter. TS mentioned in earlier posts that some hamster can jump quite high.

Can i use shredded paper for bedding? I have a paper shredder and I can shred new printer papers as I think printed one has ink that is not good for hamster. Cost should be cheaper than getting special bedding from pet shop.

I read from HamsterHideout Forum. Many said u can use shredded paper however, it is best to sift the habuk2 residue from shredding. Thats the least we can do for the hamster.

I watched some vids on youtube as well, people make the bedding themselves by soaking the paper in hot water few times to remove the ink from the paper and then dry completely before use. Yes it is a hassle but it will save u quite a lot of money. smile.gif

Here are some useful thread from the forum:
The Different Species
Unsafe Hamster Bedding
How to Make a Bin Cage (Alternative cage for Hamster)

I used plain shredded paper because it is easier to clean compared to bedding. Moreover, some bedding might affect hamster's respiratory system..just stating based of my experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I have shredded lots of plain papers as bedding. It is so easy as I can shred more any time I want.

Bought our first hamster today from CTY in Penang, male Golden Hamster. My daughter name him Nibbles. He is now left to explore his new home for the next couple of days. Also bought a 6.5" saucer for temporary use until he get slightly bigger, will buy him a 11" Wodent Wheel. Right now he is so tiny I'm afraid the wheel is too big for him. Bought a Vadigran meal as not able to find any Vitakraft or Harry Hamster. Anyone from Penang know where to get those?

Went to Chai Leng Park Aquarium earlier. They have a few varieties, Golden, Robo, WW but I think their WW have wet tail or something as the fur is wet and look unhealthy. They place them in small and dirty glass tanks. Another pet shop, Crystal Aquarium, has better living condition for their hamster with wheel and caves in large display unit.

CSL = CTY?? In the comment section, CSL no longer carry Vitakraft products. I only saw a few Vitakraft products when I was at CTY today. They are promoting Vadigran in big way.

Our new hamster like to sleep at a corner of the tank instead of his cave. Should I move the cave to his current nesting corner? tq.

It's normal, my hamster did that before. You could try to put at that corner….or put some shredded paper and food inside the cave.

I'm going to add additional cave for him at his current nesting corner. I'm also making a potty for him and will try to train him later. Will also add sand bath. I read that Syrian hamster original habitat is desert sand. Should I add sand box for him to play in or bigger sand bath will do?

I think it's normal, I have one weird hamster that prefer sleeping with standing position at the corner.
