I'm going to add additional cave for him at his current nesting corner. I'm also making a potty for him and will try to train him later. Will also add sand bath. I read that Syrian hamster original habitat is desert sand. Should I add sand box for him to play in or bigger sand bath will do?

You can try to contain the sand on a small container/cup/smtg is round..depending on the size of your hamster..

Our Nibbles getting into habit of peeing on the flying saucer. He did this yesterday, so I made a loo for him and move soiled bedding and his poo to the loo, hoping that he got the idea. But no, he peed on the flying saucer again last night. He moved a few of bedding material to the saucer before peeing. Maybe he want to pee on a clean surface without bedding. Anyone encountered this behavior before?

Yes. My hamster ALWAYS pee in his flying saucer and wheels. Its okay for me because I usually just have to wash his saucer and wheels 2 time a week and doest need to change its bedding offtend wink.gif . Some people say that their behavior will change when u provide them with sand bath. Maybe u should try.

oic. I already bought sand bath but reluctant to put it in as I'm afraid he will pee in there as well. I want to potty train him first but looks like he did not use his potty yet. Will try sand bath and see how it goes. thanks.

Our hammie Nibbles is not eating much from his food bowl but I noticed that he has been digging for his stashed food. Have not been adding food for last 2 days since there are still food in his bowl. Is this normal that he eats his hidden stashes first or it is a sign of something is not right? Thanks.

Hello guys. Recently I just bought over roborovski from my friend since she doesn't want to keep it anymore. She's been feeding it with mix food and it seems that it doesn't eat the pellet at all.
What should I do? I think for 1 year+ the hamster been eating that way.
Also, my friend never try fed it with fresh fruits and veges, is it ok that I get something fresh to feed it?

Ps: This is my first time having a hamster and I was so excited and bought a proper hamster cage for it rclxms.gif previously it was kept in a small plastic fish tank sad.gif

Bought a Wodent 11" wheel over the weekend for our Nibbles. Initially he has problem using it as it is difficult to spin, especially by a young Syrian. Put some lube on the axle and now he loves it, like running in a marathon and the size is good for his back.

Now we can hand feed him but still have not found out what he really like. So far tried raisin, dried mealworm and large sunflower seed. Worst is dried mealworm, he just smelt and went away. Any other ideas for a treat?
