1. I just found out from reading Chainfire's most recent and very long pages (100+ pages) that it does not wipe-out data on the phone.
2. Since I have never heard of any complaints about ODIN potentially carrying malware/virus, I can take a calculated risk to say it doesn't. Not 100% sure tho.
As for the tar file, it seems like Chainfire just added a few extra to the stock Kernal like CWM, etc before re-packaging/compressed it into a tar file.

4. Yes, u need to extract the .tar till you get zImage. zip>tar>zImage. Copy the zImage to /sd.
5. No problem so far.. . Unless you not follow the guide and mess up ODIN setting. 

*Once completed , u can dload "Root Check" from Market to check whether your successfully rooted your phone or not.

5. The biggest problem after rooting is how to customize n rape ur phone 9 9....
I also juz rooted it yesterday n it was so freaking easy n smooth
now play around 1st b4 decide to flash rom as d stock 1 serve me well in battery life

I have not rooted and flash any new ROM on my phone.
However I have read through Chainfire's CF-Root pages and of course page 1.
I am tempted now to root the phone after considering all the +ve benefits of rooting my phone.
But before I root, I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help answer.

1. After using Chainfire's method to root the phone, will my existing apps, configuration, contact, sms be removed/wiped-out? Was not able to find any answers to this.

2. Since ODIN is an exe that runs on Windows, is there a possibility of it carrying any virus/malware? How about the tar file?

3. Should I choose this "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.tar" file from PDA in ODIN to root my phone since my stock kernal is KF1?

4. Is it better/easier to use Chainfire's method (zImage) to remove the triangle or just buy a jig to do this? The triangle will only show during boot up right?

I'm using LBE Privacy Guard.

Discovered that Facebook app was trying to access my contacts every single hour....but of course my LBE Privacy app kept rejecting it...haha...

Rejecting it doesn't affect my Facebook usage, I can still go into facebook, reply message, view photos, comments etc...hmm, I wonder why Facebook app wants to see my contact list every hour?

got any free apps for Root Explorer? i wanna stop the camera clicking sound. lol.

maybe to update ur contact list with fb contacts if got new pics, status etc. if u check your contacts, then click activity tab, u can see their current fb status/twitter tweet
the latest ES explorer support root and rw permissions, u can try but i still suggest root explorer la, get wut i mean?

Sorry, do you mean the Contact list in the phone...i can only see Keypad, Logs, Contacts, Favourites, Groups. Don't have Activity tab.

Is it because I didn't sync Facebook contacts to my phone?

i cant seem to go to test screen..i think i saw pinkish tint while on fb..any1 can give me the code?tried the one at the front page..did not work.
