QUOTE(Lifeis@mess @ Apr 4 2014, 04:13 PM) i just watch this just now, overall 6.5/10. Pretty agree with you, its a good attempt at putting a long story in a 2 hours duration movie. The only downside is their CGI. I know no way in hell they could do it as perfect as a hollywood movies, but truly their CGI is a bit dissappointing. yes, the cgi is not as good as it can be. perhaps budget issues, can't afford the best from usa or korea! |

QUOTE(skeelee @ Apr 4 2014, 08:11 PM) Good question. Have you ever wondered why Gravity won the best sound editing for this year's Oscar ? It should have been silent right ?What the sound effect editor did was to predict what the astronaut would hear when they were outer space. Since sound does not transmit through the space, if you watch the film closely, you will notice that the deep rumbling sound we frequently hear from the film, is actually sounds mimicking audio transmitted to the ear via her arms only when the main actress touches the item. No matter what went on to the space station, sounds only appeared when she touched the space station. The whole film's audio tried to resemble physics of that sort. That is not only revolutionary, but brave from the point of view of the production. The music add on to the event to fill up the silence when the main actress was floating, which in effect, supposed to be silent. Go back and watch it again, and see what I meant. The other effect is more like 'directional audio', which the audio of the person will appear from the rear surround if the scene was meant to be so. So yes, this film has to be watched in a cinema, or with a full set home surround system in full function. |

Another example of this is from a movie done as early as 1968(?).
In 2001 A Space Odyssey, there was one scene where the spaceman was sucked into an almost vacuum space chamber, which was in complete silence. The moment after he was sucked in, and the automatic door shut itself, that shutting down immediately coupled with a loud bang along with all the gas fizzing noises.. such was the ideal, serious, scientific way to depict a hypothetical situation, only done in a well made film. |

QUOTE(peter32 @ Apr 4 2014, 09:40 PM) Another example of this is from a movie done as early as 1968(?). oh yes, this stanley kubrick film is a master piece. a film ahead of its time.In 2001 A Space Odyssey, there was one scene where the spaceman was sucked into an almost vacuum space chamber, which was in complete silence. The moment after he was sucked in, and the automatic door shut itself, that shutting down immediately coupled with a loud bang along with all the gas fizzing noises.. such was the ideal, serious, scientific way to depict a hypothetical situation, only done in a well made film. the moments of silence were critical to the film, adds to the depiction of awry horror in space. |

legend of hercules is... so-so. my rating 2.5/5.
kind of disappointing as director is renny harlin of diehard2 and cliffhanger. maybe a better cast would have made a difference. weak drama, not-so-good-action makes it pale in comparison to 300 or immortals or the titans duology. for a few minutes, i thought the fight scene in olympus/acropolis athens was a poor copy of gladiator's maximus fight in the coliseum in rome. and i never thought hercules could wield the lightning rod of zeus! i hope 300 rise of an empire will be better... |
