The  Wildest Dream....i think i watched it a dozen times...fantastic visuals and very touching story.

Watched it too, both my wife and I think its an amazing realife story. Great imagery throughout the film, not to mention unbelievable story about an amazing determination of a man. It certainly is a great film to keep and to inspire.

The day before both of us finished Citizen Kane in HD too. Its not my first time but for my wife, it was her first viewing. Just told her that Citizen Kane, in various aspect of movie making, was ranked as the best film in the history of movie making. The method in which the director uses to shoot the film, remained an original blueprint for many modern film makers. Same thing for the music too.

And all that came from a young less then 30 yr old director/ actor in his first ever film !

Transformers: Dark of the Moon:

After watching it with lower expectation upon reading some review earlier, I was actually surprise that I think it is a better product then the 2nd one. There is some story line this time, and the battle scenes are being simplified or toned down, or at times deliberately to be made in slow motion in order to avoid a complete blurring of metals flashes across the screen, which tend to happen during the 2nd instalment.

One can say that the first Transformer was made with a wow factor, showing off its asset in digital technology and what it can be done. The second upped the ante with even more special effect, resulting in over-blowing of scenes of metal clashes, saturated the movies with something which shouldn't be overwhelmed in the first place.

The third has tried to correct the mistake, slowing down some of the scenes, in most cases rendering the effect as secondary to the main character and storyline. No doubt, it does not have the story line ala forest gump nor scripts of 'A Few Good Man' or 'Ingloreus Basteurd', but they are trying there.

Not a bad flip. But I still wouldn't pay through my nose to acquire the Bluray though. It is still one of the best showcase for the TV store to demo their product for the time being.

Special Effect : Superb. With this kind of effect, one can no longer see the difference between reality and digital imagery.

This actress's lip is so full that you just need to wet it with water, and it will stick on the glass.

Sorry out of topics.

The color Purple is a masterpiece by Spielberg. What striked me when I first saw it on a big screen in 1986/7 is the cinematography. while the editing is typical Spielberg with his own usual suspect circle of editor, this film optimise the African American skin tone contrasted with the sandy background, its shirt and native american countryside.

And I haven't even talked about its story yet. Anyway, its a masterpiece in many aspect. (ed: Original book was a famous American Feminist writer, hence the storyline.)

The tree of life is extremely abstract & visionary conceptual!

The most wonderful cinematography I ever seen! Visually powerful!

It was subjective in masterpiece! You either appreciate it stunningly conceptual or totally not accepting on it.

Unbelievable PQ & AQ.

The film: 5 Star

Agree. I think this disc should be made a demo disc for sheer photography alone. Brilliant use of natural source of light for almost all scenes.

I think Cars2 is the worst of the Pixar production so far. Brilliant animation but boring story line.

The First Blood is just one of those film that I watched, and at awe at the quality of the action, stunts, and refreshing genre at that time. Rambo(s) that comes after that bear minimal resemblance to such quality.

After that film I remembered its soundtracks up to now. And I watched that film in 1980's mind you !

talking about korean movie, is there a bluray version for " sex is zero " part 1 & 2?

Haha.. actually there is. But i watched them in DVD. Obviously they are adulted theme comedy. Part 1 is actually pretty funny. Keep the kids out but you may enjoy the korean style comedy. Part 2 is just so-so. I think you can forget about the part 2.

Once Upon A time In America.
Starring Robert De Niro and boy, is it long.
A total of 3 hr and 49 minutes.
Story of Jews in America and how thee gansters evolved in the early days of New York.
I don't think we will ever see this type of movie making anymore.
The initial 30 minutes is really plodding along, not much music or even dialogue.
Just various images and flash backs, but once it gets going, it is quite riveting.

I first watched it on TV in Europe actually. As you said, no one dare to make film that way anymore. Because of the length I never watched this film (a few times) in one go, always break the session into two at least. A few good points of this film:

1. Film making.. raw, brutal, no hiding places. Its very much a wild west cowboy in New York. Classic Sergio leone.
2. Haunting soundtrack from Ennio Morricone as usual.
3. The beauty of Jennifer Connelly at that age...
4. Robert De Niro - I think this is partly a De Niro film. Admittedly I was his fan for quite a long time.

Watched Wu Xia.

I think its a must watch. Great for cinematography, excellent colour rendering, refreshing storyline.

Not to mention Great Cast. Especially for supporting casts such as Donnie Yen's parents. Both are heavy weight, impactful even though only show for a short time.

Fighting scenes are good too.

The story just slowly build-up to inevitable clash between two generations and good vs evil.

No doubt its a little bit unusual in its ending.. but I can live with it. If one understand mandarin, you will still need subtitles as the mandarin accents are too strong for anyone I think.

Overall strongly recommended.

Added on December 31, 2011, 11:47 pmOne complaint for Wu Xia : soundtracks. Its a mistake to use modern instrumentations for film of that genre.

Just finished Once Upon a Time In the West.

Totally enjoyed it, my wife loves it too. We are totally amazed by the haunting soundtracks in the real movie itself.

Slow pace though. But I like the way the film generated the tension. So the pace is slow for a reason. Afterall, its a 1968's film.

Thanks jovigrunge for introducing The Debt.

Watched it over last night and agree that this is one film any drama enthusiast should not miss. One of the reason is we will never see this film to be shown in Malaysia for obvious reason, its just too politically sensitive.

Great story telling, good acting, and very good character development too. its a tragedy that the story developed in the way it went. But thats life. Great movie.

Margin Call is another movie/drama that focus more on story development that fits in similar basket of watchability. Also highly recommended.

Added on February 20, 2012, 12:00 pmJust to add, this movie also portray the Nazi soldier as highly intelligent bunch of army, reminded me another excellent film of this nature --> Inglorious Bastaerd.

Watched the followings:

1. Hugo - I cannot really trace the Director's hand in this piece. If not reading the credit I won't have known its directed by Martin Scorsese. Afterall it may be a relatively boring film in today's fast flick culture. But the way the set up was done, the way they develop the story was commendable. I enjoyed the beauty of the set. No doubt a good U rated family film.

2. Adventure of Tintin - I think this is one of the trilogy am I right ? It should be since the story hasn't ended as yet. With Peter Jackson involved in this project I won't be surprise that more are to come. The animation technicality is indeed a notch above earlier films. I think Rango is on par in terms of the animation standard. Great animation I would say. Story wise its hard to rate it since this is just part 1 of more to come I think. Not bad. But definitely not the like of Pixar's 'UP' in terms of story line. I would recommend it for those who wants to keep the film for the sake of the quality of the animation.

You Are The Apple Of My Eye.

Cheerful piece of movie, which could well be a film that will liberate the director's own mental imprisonment from his own incomplete childhood first love.

It reminded me of Ah Niu's recent piece Ice Kacang Puppy Love, which I also recommend to northern Malaysia who has their childhood at around late 70's to 80's.

The reason this film strikes so many hearts especially in Taiwan was that the love that the film depicts did not end in a way it intended. So it is not exactly a feel good film.

For those who watched this before, I would like to share the photos below, who is the real lady that director fancies in his childhood. For those who hasn't watch it, get that film and enjoy it. Make sure your young kids are not around though.

In the film, the main actress was acted by this sweet girl:

Here's how she look like in realife, past and probably quite recent:

Chronicle 2012

As reviewed in the official press, this is qutie an entertaining sci-fi flick. Nothing to shout about except that it is able to keep me concentrate for the entire film.

Acting is good, actually with good character build up for the main actors. Which is important in film like this.

Great for popcorn session. Recommended.

The Girl with The Dragon's Tattoo - directed by David fincher, obviously a remake from the original Swedish Trilogy.

All I have to say is - a must watch. Before I watched this, I was obviously mistaken this to be another commercial flip. But I forgot to note that its directed by David Fincher !

Great story line, and surprisingly long film. Being long allowed it to fully develop the main three characters. Which is very crucial for this film. It obviously add souls into otherwise can be a plain who-done-it film.

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Note: Don't watch it in front of young children. Frontal nudity warning applied.

Has anyone bought and watched Timescapes the Movie ?

Its the first movie made in full 4K format. Here's the idea of the screen size of 4K below:
user posted image

Of course it also comes with full 1080p format and slightly higher resolution of 30inch monitor size.

Here's the amazing trailer:

I am still not sure which hardware format of the computer can play the full 4K version.
