Ive been using A2 + Centrance DACport for a while, and i must say its a pretty darn good speaker.

THe thing that bothers me a lil is that you need to be sitting directly in front of the speaker / table. If not, the speaker will sound muffled.

So if you're planning to sit further from the table / with friends on a couch or something, u wont get to hear the 'extra details'.

aiming for this speakers right now... is a subwoofer really necessary in music? is it worth the sacrifice? coming from a normal 2.1 computer speaker user here... I'm using Altec Lansing FX4021.

anyone know where i can repair my A5's ? the sounds keep going off and on especially when there's a pause/low volume in whatever I'm playing . . I've changed the fuse but no use and even when I turn the volume unusually high.

Hi guys..new member of a5+ superb quality and sound and although it didn't give heart-attack bass quality but the bass enough to make you feel "wow" already
And just realize the speaker need a lot of range to performance well..
Remember keep distance with your A5+ smile.gif

A simple review from me on my setup~ (sorry for my not professional review whistling.gif )

Audioengine A5+ Speakers:
These speakers is not too big and not too small either. What I really like about these speakers is that, the woofer for this speakers does not come with a grill but yet it looks totally great with it. You don't really have to afraid someone or your kids might a little bit itchy hand and touch the woofer because the quality build of it is superb and enclosure for it is VERY SOLID (Not kidding thumbup.gif). Some little things I do not like is that the power cable is a little bit short (hoping is a little bit longer about 0.5m?) but the other cables are good like it comes with a RCA gold plated plug. It comes with a USB port, usually I just use it to charge my phone and and AUX port. They have a remote control for volume, sleep mode and mute but I often use the remote to control the volumes. Just happen recently, there are holes on the volume up and down button due to too often using it. The buttons are actually like some sort of bubble button, I don't know what is original called but it is still working perfectly fine. Hopefully they come out with a better remote buttons.

So let's go to the sound quality wise. The high note of the speaker is good, where you can get to listen to clear vocals or some high notes of instrumental music. The mids are good too... The lows are superly good where you can somehow feel that you had extra subwoofer but you're not, is just too good and hard to believe. My first expression when I audition is like "WOW shocking.gif", you must be kidding me... This speakers can go real loud without distortion... But in order for you to reach optimum sound quality of the speaker you have to put your speakers about 0.4m away from the back of the wall~

Audioengine D1:
With this installed, you will be able to notice the difference without it but it wont be a huge difference. The treble and bass will increase in terms of clarity highs and mids and the lows you will be able to hear sharper and clearer details of the music/song and feel a deeper punch bass. If you're connected to a PC, remember to set the settings to 24bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality), this is for windows 7.

Audioengine S8 Subwoofer:
If you are looking for extra bass and in a small enclosure subwoofer then this is the one. A 11" square enclosure with a 8" subwoofer. The wood of the enclosure is VERY SOLID like the A5+ Speakers. They look down on this small subwoofer. Just that it is small and thinking it won't be able to perform well? I can tell you that you're wrong. The 8" subwoofer can shake things up in your house. Is a very very very powerful bass. A small woofer like this able to produce deep, accurate and solid bass. I went down to lower flower I can even hear the bass beat even though the volume of the song is low and had my room door close. Try imagine if is in a loud volume drool.gif

* So this is my short review, hope you guys enjoy it =)

Hi Audioengine owners,

This is in regard with A5 model.

I bought Audioengine A5 in 2007 and it worked well in all circumstances. Few day back I left it powered on overnight (usually I switch of when I don't use it) and the next day morning I found that it was not working. And I noticed the rear side was overheated. As I'm an Electronics Engineer, I opened the cabinet, measured the out put voltage from the toroidal transformer and there is no voltage. When I checked the connectivity, the primary side(between WHITE and RED) of the transformer is open. I guess this damage happened because of the voltage fluctuation in the power distribution in my area (230v, 50Hz).

I asked Audioengine team to repair it. Since A5 speaker model was discontinued, they don't have the this type of transformer with them. I got same reply when wrote to local re-seller. Having more curious to repair my A5 and love it, I also asked the Chinese manufacture who supplied the transformer to Audioengine. They also don't have stock of that transformer.

Now I find this Audioengine owners group through google. As a last try, I would like to ask, if any one of this forum readers having non-working A5 with the transformer in good condition? If so will you be able to sell the transformer to me? (I live in Chennai, India)

Here is the A5 transformer specification:
Primary: 230v 50Hz
Secondary : 19v-0-19v , 0-10, 15v-0-15v

Thanks and Regards,
Thangavel
