The simple and pure reason why I want AGP to die is because the less platforms you have, the easier it is to manufacture new stuff. PCI-E is the one with the bigger d*** in comparison to AGP, so let it be the dominating platform. I rest my case here.
*
Well, actually I don't think APG is slowing down or affecting the technology advancement of GPU. I mean afterall, as u can see now, they are all making chipset for PCI-E, and use a bus to port to AGP if they wants to. so in a way, they are developing new chipset as if AGP don't exist anymore. I don't see how that could slow down the tech advancement...

wow, seems like a debate is goin on in here
If the market for AGP is still there, then releasing AGP would be good.

For example, if ATi doesn't produce AGP card anymore and Nvidia is still producing them then of course Nvidia will gain more profit.

BTW, the 700MB CD-ROM is an old tech and we dun see it dying at all even though 4.7GB DVD and 30~50GB next-gen DVD is introduced.

Yeah, but unlike graphic cards, you can put a cd in a DVD rom drive. I can't put an AGP card into a PCI-E slot, now can I?

Compatibility is the issue here. By forcing consumers to adhere to one standard, technological progresses will be made easier.

There is a point.
Anyway there is an AGP to PCI-E converter.

Notice that small '2' beside that GTO... sweat.gif only that version can be flashed to 16pipes... flex.gif

tried flashing x850pro to xtpe today, but no luck, still at 12 pipes... huh.gif

Good news to AGP users:
QUOTE

News : GPUs & Graphic Cards : ATi X800GTO Cards In Sep
ATi will extend another model for their recently launched X800GT, known as the X800GTO clocked at 400MHz and has 12 pipelines. There will be two main variants, 256MB GDDR3 version with memory clock at 490MHz and 128MB GDDR1 version with memory clock at 350MHz. All GTO cards will use excess R480 Pro, R430 Pro or R423 Pro chips. There will be AGP versions of this card available in the near future as ATI already has reference designs of the 256MB chip running on 500MHz GDDR3 based on R430 Pro on both AGP and PCIe with the Rialto bridge. Performance is between X800GT and an X800XL and expect to see the new cards in September's retail channel.

QUOTE

Yeah, but this costs money and is impractical, you can't say the same about DVD-ROM drives with CD-ROM support.

In my opinion, I think it will flood the year end PC fair just like 6600GT did last time.
The price should be around RM750~RM900.

Where did PowerColor post about X800 GTO?? Didn't find it on their website. http://www.tul.com.tw

But I did found out that Gecube has already listed a x800GTO AGP on their website. Look it up here:

Found out from the net, it seems that GTO^2 is the version X800GTO that can be unlock.

On 15 Septemeber, ATI has just released X800GTO in US and Canada, with Gecube, PowerColor, HSI, Sapphire and Mobo makers (ASUS, MSI, ABIT, Gigabyte...). The list can be found on ATI website.

If you search in Gecube website, you can see that Gecube has released a version on X800GTO in AGP. http://www.gecube.com/products-02.php?prod...prod_cat_id=134. Though it is listed on their website, but chances that one can get one in M'sia is pretty low as ATI will be pushing hard for R5-series VPU line.

As for nVidia G7-series, no AGP version card is planned since the beginning of development as it has been stated by their CEO, Mr Hwang, as he think that more and more users will be migrating to PCIe mobo as chipset manufacturers (from both camps) are pushing the new platform aggressively.

that GeCube is the 128MB version, slower RAM and core as well i think, as compare to the 256MB

I think it'll be better for someone who wants this card to go straight for the 256MB card...

But then lets wait for the benchmark comparing it to other card as well as the price
