whoa...if you can afford x800gt then just go for it then. pretty obviously 6600GT wont come close to it..unless we're talking 6800GT..

If it's going to be a price speculation again, I'm moving this topic tomprice and delaer's section. And anyway to gain a better look at what the mid rangers can do, have a look at [H]ardOCP's review and comparison of the X800GT and the 6600GT. Note however that they reviewed the Powercolor one's which are using R480 chips. Other brands are supposedly using R423 due to lower cost

QUOTE(kev_neville @ Sep 9 2005, 03:48 AM) go for x800gt.. I am buying 1 too... powercolor is better coz using R480 core so can oc higher... some said can unlock the additional pipeline by hardmodding it.... Nope, R480 pipelines on the X800GT have been cut, hence it's impossible to flash or mod it to XL/XT. IIRC I read somewhere that although the R480 uses the low-K dielectrics, it consumes more power as a 130Nm core and hence runs a little warmer than the R423. Unless you swap out the stock HSF, neither core will give you good overclocks. Don't forget that these R480s are binned out, so they don't clock very well. BTW, are you looking for an AGP or PCI express card? AFAIK the X800GT comes only in PCI-E while the 6600GT has a bridged AGP version. http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/x800gt-5.htmPerformance wise, the X800GT is much better but the 6600GT gives you the advantage of upgrading to a SLI layout later.

correction, the R480's clocks better than the R423 actually. it's just that R423 has 12 pipes IINM which makes it look sweeter on paper.

BTW: the fps is diffrent only 10fps i dont thing that good for X800GT .... X800GT 256mb only higher 10fps than 6600GT 128,,, damn 6600gt so strong! Might as well get that wan..the 66GT's however dropped to around $100 cheaper than the X800GT.

that's because only the 256mb version has the same mem clock as a 6600gt the 128mb version is slower
i doubt that it lost because of the lacking 128mb of rams
