Y want take food science?? I can tell you that it is not easy to find a job with that degree in Malaysia. Alot of ppl from that course actually tried their luck to do their masters and phd and end up becoming a lecturer instead.

Depends on who you mix with... Lecturers got good and bad.. Environment come and experience yourself durin open day or normal days..

Hi, helping a friend ask some questions.

She applied for the next MBBS Medicine intake in Monash Malaysia which is in Feb.

Just now, the university sent an e-mail rejecting her saying she does not fulfill academic requirements (TER 97).

But before the the rejection which is few days back, Monash called her and told her there was an issue with her

South Australian Matriculation (SAM) cert because she finished it in 2009, (FYI, she was working until 2011)

the counsellor told her that it has something to do with the duration which is already more than 2 years. But she did

try to apply earlier this year 2012 but the counsellor told her that the deadline was over so she should apply for the

2013 one, which she did recently. She even confirmed with the counsellor if the certificate will still be valid and the

counsellor told her there's no problem.


She's currently at loss at what to do considering the counsellor told her there wasn't a problem earlier this year but

suddenly there is. She's considering an appeal since she is quite adamant in getting into the course. The IMU

overseas programme is too expensive, so she's only left with this option to get a reputable med degree. She tried

to call them just now but staffs already went back so she can only go on Monday.


What can be done to assist her in doing so? Thanks.

What was her SAM Atar score? Is 97 the min requirement?

She got TER 97 but the requirement is 90 I think.

The official requirement is 95.
Other than making an appeal, I don't see anything that you can do if the university does not want to accept your qualification. It has been 3 years 2009.2010.2011 since she finished her qualification.
I know of people who took a 1 year gap after pre-U. They had to describe in detail what they did in the year when they applied to uni so for 3 years...that's a bit too long I think there's a time frame for the validity of these results-but I'm not sure.
Perhaps your friend can try IMU-Local instead? It's much cheaper and very reputable in Malaysia as well.

P/s: Did you talk to the same counsellor in both times? The counsellor is not responsible for making any admission decisions...besides, I think you could have applied even in February for the the next intake. (2013) Are you sure you didn't misunderstand anything? Because if everything is ok the counsellors will just proceed with the application when you see them early this year...you shouldn't have to wait until now to apply again..

No, it does not overwrite your previous result. It will be calculated together with your new result in the final CGPA.


There seems to be some misinterpretation. Not sure what happened. You may drop Mr. Julius Wong an email at julius.wong@monash.edu. He is well versed with MBBS course Monash Sunway. I think he is on leave now till mid Nov, but you may try your luck.

Added on November 5, 2012, 12:29 pmYes, Australian can enrolled in Monash University Sunway campus starting from next year onwards, however they are not allowed to enroll in MBBS or Pharmacy course mainly due to internship issue that may arise later.

Similarly, they are not allowed to take CSP rights while studying in Sunway campus. Hope this helps.
For UEC students, IELTS is a must and there is no way around this English requirement rule. Unless you obtain overall band of 5.5 with each band not less than 5.0, they will offer your English Language course, with conditional offer for your course that you would to enrol. This English course does not apply for MBBS and Pharmacy.

Can you please elaborate on the internship issue? How does this affect Malaysian students doing MBBS? I was made to understand that Monash Sunway will always pitch the "OZ internship opportunity" at education fairs etc. Thank you.
