just try ya best bro... these stuffs wont cost a big whole in ya wallet while able to provide decent amount of fun... ur into ram tweakin rite? haswell is nice but d budget can be doubled or trippled. ddr3 3k+ is really temptin but budget wise... sweat.gif

good news is pokde will be joinin d fm2 bandwagon soon... i'm waitin for him to release his awesomeness once he get his hands on a fm2+ mobo... brows.gif

LOL. Really worth for the upgrades? Any sifus tried upgrading from 8150 to 8350 haha. Wanna hear out what's the exp of it. Now I don't even know how much I can sell my 8150 for =.=
*
i'd say yes if d upgrade wont caused u an arm & leg. better oc headroom, lower volt needed, improved power consumption, slightly improved imc... however, u need some luck in gettin a better vishera. avoid earlier batch (might not be applicable to all) coz my 1st 8350 was lemon, 2nd one worked alot better. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(nazisson @ Sep 30 2013, 10:28 PM)
noobie question,
this is 1st time i bought hi end amd sys, how to sucseccfully overcloock vishera fx8320? what exactly the setting in bios?? which one need disable?

bcoz i just tried overclock use amd overdrive software..auto oc to 4.4ghz. when i play crysis 3, its not smooth, it stutter like very few FPS, but FPS record by FRAPs was ok. and my mobo can't detect my oc hd6950>hd6970 from 2nd bios. only can use default bios 1 (which is 6950 default). before no problem use bios 2 6970 with asus m5a78Lx matx mobo.

proc: fx8320
mobo: sabertooth r2.0 gen2
ram: hyperx 1600Mhz 2x4Gb

thanks sifus
*
dont use fraps to record game play, iirc d video will be records is @ fixed fps. if i'm not mistaken fraps eat up lotsa cpu power hence d lagginess during game play + fraps running. smile.gif

for gfx issue could it be gfx driver related? hmm.gif

Just Bought A10 5800K and this motherboard
Gigabyte G1 Sniper A88X Gaming
8Gig Value Kingston Ram
Combo with AMd R9 270x Asus Top Dc2

Does this Mobo + Cpu worth to OC?
*
y not, thou in general richland is more overclockable than trinity. if luck is with u u can see 4.4~4.5GHz for 24/7, or slightly higher. wink.gif

What's the usual stock voltage for FX8350? I have mine at 1.375V.
*
stock vid differs from chip to chip i think, d lower d better but usually bios (with auto) will overvolt it to lower 1.4V region. there are lotsa room for u to undervolt if u dont oc, or some oc headroom if u stick with so called stock volt. it's has always been like this for AMD chips for few generations from what i observed. smile.gif

Hello guys,

Since AMD's roadmaps showed there won't be SR FX processors for the year 2014, I'm just going to jump onto an AM3+ platform to replace my PC I smoked a few weeks ago.

For now, I'm likely going with an FX-8320 and an Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0. But I'm not sure of what RAMs with particular chips (Elpida, Hynix, Micron) to get for OCing... anyone able to advise? Can't really afford premium RAM so if anyone has a good lead on relabelled chips on value RAMs it would be real nice. smile.gif
*
good choice & u should stick to that imo. when it comes to AMD, asus boards would always be 1st in d list to consider. Great ocibility & supports & not to forget their awesome apps like AI Suite & etc.

Ram wise i'd say get micron based (if 2 x4GB) to play play with tight timing (9-9-9) @ 2133 or below. Samsung/Hynix can do 2400 or higher but lax timing (10-12-12/11-13-13) is a must & d ceiling (for prime stable) seems to halt around 24xx (could be user problem thou). if 2GB modules u'll have more options like Elpida BBSE, micron D9KPT, PSC just like d good old am3 oc days. smile.gif

QUOTE(cloudwan @ Nov 25 2013, 09:58 AM)
Yup go with the ASUS 990x bro, better PWM's means a lot more in oc.. smile.gif

RAM chips nowedeis is kinda hard to pin point, but i do find gskill rams to be quite good in oc for AMD.. avoid kingston they suck nowedeis..  sweat.gif

Ah, ah_khoocloudwan long time no see. Had fun with you guys during the Phenom II days tongue.gif Seems you guys are still at it ehhh.

Yup, I'm planning for 2 x 4GBs, but do AMD FXs prefer timings or all out memory bandwidth? cloudwan ah_khoo any cheap and good set of RAMs under RM300 you can personally recommend? brows.gif Buying procs and mobos are easy, RAMs on the other hand - too many choices, only one selection sad.gif
*
nice to have u back bro... thumbup.gif

never really do head to head comparison but i'd like to think tight timing better performance but high frequency is fun too. can't really advised on which to get, it's all down to ya preference, here's some input which i hope can help a 'lil:

crucial ballistix tactical (non led)/elite 1866 cl9 > Micron D9PFJ (credits to Lengchai) - 9-9-9 @ 2133MHz w/ 1.65v OK for 24/7

Gskill ARES 2133 CL9 (Hynix ?FR) - 9-11-10 @ 2133MHz / 10-12-12 @ 2400MHz
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

samsung lv lp 1600MHz CL11 is pretty much same like ARES but slightly "lax"er timing & @ 2400MHz, 2T is a must. sad.gif

I believe all cost lower than RM300, not so sure bout their availability locally but i think u'll have higher chance in gettin gskill & crucial in MY. wink.gif

Looking at it now, 2 x 8GB sounds more futureproof laugh.gif Reviews say 16GB kits are generally much more difficult to push but definitely more usage worthy in the long run. Saw a seller selling Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB kits here, with those timings I'm guessing it's likely Micron...
*
crucial is definitely usin micron chippies bro coz it's d subsidiary company of d latter. yup, 16gb is more future proof. if u use ps or playin with vm, 16gb is d way to go. biggrin.gif

hey , newbie question here , just wondering if FX4300 is 4 real core or 2 real core 2 virtual core and also same goes with FX 6350 . one more thing , what to see in a processor to determine which is good ? Thanks
*
can u define good? if in term of IPC (instruction per cycle), power efficiency, multitasking etc, intel are generally better. FX still got alot to catch up but not really that bad for 24/7 machine. smile.gif

QUOTE(cloudwan @ Dec 8 2013, 02:38 AM)
Ever since the launch of bulldozer series, FX41xx/61xx & 81xx AMD has been using module system for their cpu's cores...
They have what some would call 1 1/2 core per module system where certain elements in the cpu are sharing the same resource..

Reading all about Kaveri has really gotten me interested on how it would work out - if you see those leaked slides from AMD the current FX series will be used till 2015... That just sealed my decision to not buy one. Can't make myself buy something when a new release is on the horizon sad.gif

It's already been reputed by AMD that the alleged slide showing AM3+ socket is dead is actually a hoax slide..  rclxm9.gif
AMD never made any slide stating their cpu release plan more than a 2 years timeframe..   sweat.gif

http://www.gamersnexus.net/news/1240-futur...cpus-fx-not-eol
*
imo u should wait n see bro, nowadays AMD is learning fast (from intel), new chips most likely require new socket (d trend now is white socket for older gen while black socket for new, eventhou they are quite similar). kinda disappointed with d news that Kaveri APU confirmed (from what i read) need a new socket (fm2+, black socket) mobo in order for it to run, older fm2 mobo can't accommodate d new chips. pretty sure non APU streamroller will be on newer socket (than AM3+)... sad.gif

not really bro, one just need to read up more on ram tweakin part & do more trial & error, of course it must be accomplished by right kinda hardware (chip, IMC in particular as well as ram). i wasn't well equipped (read up, h.ware) during that time wink.gif

*
bios oc is a must if u were to make it permanent. AOD/AI suite (or whatever comes from manufacturers) are best for gauging d oc potential of ya setup WITHOUT d need to restart ya pc. there are things that can't be altered in windows based oc tools like mem timings, nb multiplier etc. usually i only use windows based oc to tweak voltages, apart from that, all set in bios. smile.gif

Whats the worst can happen if an oc is failed?

1. Windows wont boot ---> BSOD ---> HDD will corrupt faster

Anything else?

major concern is hdd, not really bothered with d rest. but to think that there's a need to reformat + installation of drivers, there's no harm to try oc gradually instead of directly pump d clock to x.xGHz. not like if u run it @ x.xGHz for sometimes (even it's not stable) it will become stable later on. dont think ppl do "Burn In" nemore like last time... tongue.gif

U r still around! Hehe. Ok, noted. i'll be using ssd to play-play with da chip, so the risk of corrupted ssd is lower compared to hdd. If i didnt increase the vcore so much, everything else will be ok right? now still in assembling process, hopefully can settle by this weekend then can start play  rclxm9.gif
*
yes bro, AMD thread is like a home to me in OCU... tongue.gif

i wouldn't torture my ssd that way, best if u got an old platter hdd, & prepare d image after u completed drivers & software installation. then u oc usin that hdd (it can be tortured to death w/o gettin much sympathy laugh.gif ) to find out d max clock for cpu/ram/nb. nod.gif

keepin d vrm cooled becomes more & more important nowadays (beside having decent load temp @ chip) in AMD oc (at least). u dont wanna pop any mosfet which will directly void manufacturer warranty. sweat.gif

hi guys , is it ok if i OC mf FX-4300 from 3.8 to 5ghz using only CM TCP 812 ? any advice ?
*
PD (pliedriver) is fun to play with. u can expect 4.5~4.7/8GHz prime stable, anything higher really depends on:

1. chip itself
2. mobo (especially how beefy is d vrm)
3. cooling @ cpu
4. possibly psu

TCP 812 is an above average cooler, d only complaint is @ AMD, it's of north-south (top bottom) orientation instead of d preferred east-west orientation. smile.gif

as for cpu/ram/nb oc, d mileage u can expect is around ~4.8GHz cpu, 2400MHz ram, & ~2600MHz nb. keep vcore below 1.5v, vcpu-nb (vimc) below 1.4v, ram wise depends on d sticks u use. for 2400MHz, u wont really need > 1.7v in general. these however were all my findings usin my previous setup (HERE) , they might be diff for yas. wink.gif

second that sir, usually only hynix/samsung are capable of such frequency, timing will determine d volt needed imo. smile.gif

had lotsa fun with thuban & pd, personally i prefer thuban more due to d ipc as well as imc mileage. thumbup.gif
