JOHOR BARU: Motorists will not be able to renew their driving licence if they have obtained a Singapore licence.

State Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Rosli Ramli said this was done to make it easier to trace drivers who committed traffic offences on either side of the Causeway.

“This is not a new rule. It is in accordance with Section 27 (6)(a) of the Road Transport Act,” he said in response to a complainant who said he was not informed why his Malaysian driving licence was barred when he went to renew it.

The ruling states that a person shall be disqualified from obtaining a driving licence when another is granted to him in Malaysia or the Republic of Singapore.

“Most of those affected are motorcyclists who are working in Singapore and own a Singapore-registered motorcycle.

“We will give them a choice as to which licence they want to keep,” said Mohd Rosli adding that the JPJ routinely cross checks details with its Singapore counterparts to sniff out those holding dual licences.

Singapore prohibits those holding its licence from driving a Malaysian vehicle in the republic while Malaysia allows either licence holders to drive a Malaysian or Singapore-registered car in Malaysia.

Hence, Mohd Rosli said, one should not be alarmed if one's Malaysian licence was disqualified, as one could still drive with a Singapore licence.

“Another way around it is to apply for an International Driving Permit, which costs RM150 a year,” he said.

I prefer standard chartered manhattan platinum card as the cash rebates are the best for me. Up to 5% provided you spend average 3k and above a month.

Anyone knows of any better cash rebate card?

wah, if singapore court somehow voids your sg driving license, in malaysia also cannot drive

To me...I seriously hate this kind of gimmick.
Kinda like the 1% rebate for cab rides when an extra 10% admin fee is charged when u use a card to pay.
I end up paying more.
Unless house rentals can be paid monthly by card, I would never reach 3k per month unless business travels.

Well, my friend, thanks for the article. From what i understand, there is no need to blacklist our license after getting the extract letter. I guess it is the stunt did by the Johor JPJ to extort $$$ from those who want the extract letter. Did you read the article i pasted up just now?

For info, i get my JPJ letter from JPJ Padang Jawa, Kelang. No such request of RM250 for not blacklisting my MY license. I also successfully renew my license for 5 years. Cheers

Yup can pay most bills with AXS machines.
I never use credit card to pay a different bank's credit card bill before. No idea on this.

Havent tried before, but my guess is probably can, but probably got to pay cash advance fees and cash advance interest.

Haha...actually, I just wanted to clear my bills in one go cause I do not have so many accounts with different banks but own cards from different banks due to the perks.
So I was thinking of clearing other card bills with my main card and then clear my main card.

Lta only need a document that state issue date, status, cat and personal ID then stamp and sign by jpj officer.

How you get that is depend on you. I retain my old license and I have two wallet that carry different ID. It is handy for me. At least I always used it when security need to keep one of my I'd and to rent car in other country. Take it as your ncd protector outside Singapore Loh
