Hi LYR, but you got about 5x more than what you paid for, let take an example, singtel hot 128 reload card for 28~30
100 local credit + 28 limited international credit for only $30..what do you think?
*
But if you do not talk that much, that much of a credit is still too much. laugh.gif laugh.gif
You can opt for the HOT15 (not sure, heard from my sis-in-law only).
It is 40 local, 15 international.
I heard that local calls value has a cap at 300 also.
Do note, Sg prepaid is different from back home.
They have different balance which has different use and validity.
Using the HOT package, the local and international balance lasts for 50 days only.
If you do not reload again within the 50 days, all balance will be wiped.
Oh ya, even though it is written international balance, it is actually international calls within Sg only.
There is also a main balance, for people who talk even less (like me).
I reload 10 bux, it extends the validity for 6 months. laugh.gif laugh.gif
This balance is just like the one we have in Malaysia...you can use it for everything (which covers roaming).
If this balance is less than 8bux (not exactly sure), you can't do anything while roaming even if your HOT balance is a lot.

It's not like you're stucked in a small island. It's not so far away even from Penang compared to folks working in USA/Europe/Australia.

For JB folks i can't imagine how they would even feel homesick.

Normally people decide to go to SG bring their girlfriend along to make x2.4

Deciding to and managing to are 2 different things.
Yes, both might eventually get here, but how long apart will be another matter.

How many Malaysian that work in Malaysia at my age actually pay income tax?.
*
Assuming that you were born in 1987, you will be 24 this year.
I did pay when I was 24.
However, I am not faulting you for staying in M'sia and not paying income tax.
It is not like you are avoiding tax, just you are not covered to pay the tax. laugh.gif laugh.gif
You are still helping the M'sian economy by spending money in M'sia and weakening the SGD by bringing it over the causeway to spend. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

This may be a stupid question but are PRs required to serve NS?
*

QUOTE(yiivei @ Jul 12 2011, 10:33 PM)
No, PRs' need not serve NS.
*

First gen PR (us)...no need.
2nd gen (our kids) onwards are required if they continue to retain PR by 16, cannot remember the exact age.

hello, to all bros working in sg. This kind of questions pop in every now and then, but I will love to have ur opinions guys. Just recently, I was offered a job with a basic of $6k. Further details like benefits yet to be determined/discussed. Working location is in Jurong West.

my question is:
1) any decent place recommended for rent with respect to the working location? what are the rentals are we looking?
2) looking forward to drive to work. Is that feasible or I should just stick to MRT/buses?

some infos of my background:
1) just married, probably expecting our first child next year. this will be my biggest headache. Not entirely sure if my wife tag along or she should just stay where she is. Thought of flying back to KL every fortnight. If she were to follow, is $6k enough for both of us? Am i looking at bigger area of rented rooms/unit? How much will they be?
2) 5 yrs exp, current work involves structural designs in oil, gas & petrochemical industries. Is $6k sufficient? I have no idea what are the market salary atm in sg. Offered job demands offshore line of work (based in office).
*
6k alone, to be honest, will not be enough.
Rental alone will take up 1/3 of your pay unless you go for a room rental which is not really feasible.
You still need to put food on the table.
For couples alone, yes, it will be enough.
However, with a new born, definitely not enough.
You might manage, but it will be more like you just scraped through.

thx for all of your feedbacks guys, this has help to firm up my decision. I will be working in SG alone, while my wife will stay back in KL if the deal falls thru. She wont be alone at home, parents will accompany her. She will live her life like normal, except that I wont be by her side on weekdays, this sucks. But before that, both of us have to sit down and discuss thoroughly.

The cost of living for a married couple in SG is too much to bear, especially the rental already set me back at least $1.5k. Plan to bring my car down SG, but its impossible unless I stay in JB, after reading the earlier posts.

Time to brush my nego skills, hehe. Btw, anyone has come across this company, FMC Technologies? How are the working environment and benefits?

OOT, this thread is super active man, only 1 day difference already increase another 4 pages.
*
Actually, with this, you can definitely bring your wife down.
Cost of living in JB while earning SGD is definitely affordable, just your travel time will be VERY long.
However, there is just one problem, if you do not have relatives in JB.
Imagine you have to rush from SG back to your wife whenever there is an emergency. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

But even if it is only hotel stay...60 bux for 8 nights (2 5d4n) in 4 star hotel, the price is still really unbelievable.

I'm on my way to Defu.
Employer told it'll take 1-2 weeks for EP application.

I need to serve 2 months notice and they're trying to get me started before October so that I can enjoy 2011 4th Q bonus next year.

Wish me luck.
*
The last time I was told that, I was screwed upon by the company saying biz no good, no bonus. sweat.gif sweat.gif
Lesson learnt: entitled to =/= will get. laugh.gif laugh.gif
But then, that was back during the economy slowdown.

Well, it is an advise to make you not act rashly.
Wait for the pass to be approved before you tender.
Do not get tempted by the Q4 bonus.
If you get the bonus, it is added.
