MY EXPERIENCE WITH GS2 AND DIFFERENT ROMS/STOCK ROM
Been playing with a bunch of roms for awhile and here's some finding's I'd like to share:

1) Villainrom is quite a bit of a PITA to use because there are a lot of patches that need to be added. Other roms are usually cooked up-to-date by the cook and comes very close to perfect.

2) Baseband KE7 baseband after battery calibration gave me best battery life

3) KF2 kernal gave me some random shutdown issue. Flashing back to KF1 has been the most stable.

4) Our firmware is from Singapore. The stock firmware can be downloaded here:
http://hotfile.com/dl/120783140/282d1ad/I9100ZSKF1.rar.html

It took me a bit of digging to find the correct firmware with correct CSC. If you wish to use samsung apps, you have to make sure the CSC is correct or a lot of the functions wont work. Most of the custom Roms on XDA have different (their localized) CSC.

5) Hacked google nav is excellent, no longer need to bother with PAPAGO. HOWEVER, the robotic voice is absolutely horrible..

6) One rom that is close to perfect is TK Rom 3.0.8. However for some reasons "Samsung Apps" was left in there and because the CSC is incorrect for our region, the app is pretty much useless. If you were to flash back all the samsung apps as per the rom's thread, you will find that almost none of the stock samsung apps work since the CSC is incorrect.

TK Rom + baseband KE7 + KF1 Kenal is the most stable rom I've used so far. However, to "perfect" the rom, you need to install root uninstaller (android market) and remove the samsung app. Install GO Launcher and speed up the transition speed. You will no longer feel the transition lag between pages. It's about 95%, if not 100%, as smooth as iOS.

I am now trying Cognition S2 which also seems to be a very well made Rom.

Hi all...

Have a question :

Comparing VillainROM to TK ROM, which is your favourite and what are their pros and cons?

I only know that VillainROM is great for battery consumption. How about TK ROM?

Just need your experience on this smile.gif

its friday... so letting you guys have a good laugh at my expense...

just got my 1st 'official' call on my sgs2. earlier on, had tested calling myself from the office after i inserted the sim card.

anyway, wanted to answer this official, so pressed the green icon...

...eh, how come phone still ringing?

...pressed again the green button... still ringing.

panic... its an overseas call... means important.

...press and press again the green button. still nothing.

press other buttons... nothing.

call ended. officially, my first miss call.

...then tried to call back. press the phone button.

...eh, what the heck happened to the keypad. how come only see call notification?!? press back. then press phone again. same thing. no keypad.

...repeat 2 more times... thinking... what the heck is wrong with this phone? sim card rosak? why no more keypad?

then realised... the keypad tab was 'hidden' -- scrolled and found it.

tested calling myself from office and see how to answer call... now i know. swipe. smile.gif

hope you guys had a good laugh. now i can understand how i member posted earlier about boss not answering his call. member posted the boss just got the sgs2 and figuring out how to answer...

Is there a guide to cooking Android roms? I used to cook windows mobile rom back in the days (can still find my "K's Rom" in XDA under my nick kin0kin lol). If someone could tell me what are the tools needed to cook android rom without having to study a bunch of stuff all over again, I am confident that I can cook up a decent stock-looking rom without all the garbage. Most importantly I'd like to know how to dump a rom off the phone.

Added on July 9, 2011, 2:28 amUpdating to stock 2.3.4. Let's see how it goes. Will root and remove garbage later if all goes well.
