It's not a question of whether you can, it's whether you want to or need to.

So would a solo hd need an amp? Or just the built-in iphone is enough? smile.gif
So if u want an amp for my solo hd, any recommendation?

You may also want to look at the new Fiio E11. Cheap, compact and practical with the famous bass boost feature. which adds bass and warmth. Also the one I have, the JDS Labs cMoyBB. After a while it does warm up and able to tame the highs of my dad's Grado SR-60i, especially with the bass boost. Not very good looking though (depending of your definition of style, and your rig). If you can find Meier Audio Corda XXS second hand at a cheap price, it will also be good.  tongue.gif  Was gonna buy it once, but never did. A Jaben staff gave me opinions on it, and it seems to tone down the treble area quite noticeably he says.

...I feel the E11 to have the least smooth mids of the bunch and the least refined of the bunch. But overlooking the slightly dry midrange, the sound signature is quite fun with a good punching bass and so I didn’t have problems enjoying the sound of the Fiio with less demanding music (i.e pop or alternative rock recordings that don’t have a good recording to begin with). And while the JDSLabs clearly have the more refined sound, I know that in portable situations many would put a greater weight on the Fiio’s more compact dimension...

Headfonia $100 amp shootout

after so many amps by fiio, they cant even defeat a basic cmoy amp?

solo hd is built for portable rig such as ipod/iphone. so actually it doesnot need an amp to push it. else if you want to have a lil change on the sound signature, then you can couple it with an amp. but i doubt you can hear the change of sound signature, because beats solo hd is not made for details/clarity sound sig, just for fun listening.

or... if you want to boost the bass, then amp will help you with bass control.

for me, it is not worth to get an amp for solo hd, because it easily driven by any portable audio player. unless you get audiophile grade headphone to couple the amp.

actually it is not useless. if you want extra bass for ur solo, amp with bass boost can help you to get that.

almost all amp can bass boost such as fiio e11, ordnance, etc... but if you think the bass is enough then just dont waste ur money to get an amp smile.gif because it just change lil of the sound sig for solo.

So which kind of amp can boost the bass? But i think the bass is enough tongue.gif

Hafto audition first then you will know if you really need an amp. I'm still looking for my first amp. Choose carefully.

At least for my case, I'm looking for warmer and more bass due to the sharpness/lower bass on my ES7.

Need to do more and more audition.

Lol.. Where can i find those amps for audition.. @.@ rclxub.gif

i think the better question is - what is it you want to change with the current audio ? which part you wanna boost? then you can start looking for recommendations.

Hi, looking to get a desktop amp for my beyer dt770 pro 250ohm.

What amps would you guys recommend? Preferably something < RM800 and also something with a warmer sound signature as currently i find the beyers a tad too bright.

Thanks

Need a recommendation for an amp to pair with my DT880/250. No real budget for now but in the range of RM500-1000, could spend a little bit more I guess. What I really want is an amp to improve DT880 recessed mids. Preferably solid state (tubes make my room go HOT).

And oh, it must be a desktop amp. Not interested in portables.

That combo is pretty neutral sounding and won't improve DT880s midrange.

If the littledot mk3 is anywhere similar to the littledot 2++, it won't do the ms2 justice IMHO. When I had them paired up last time, the ld2++ just killed whatever was nice about the ms2, and it sounded like a generic headphone under a pillow.

I have tested Solo that came with HP Envy Beat Edition... if you talking about bass, I think there is no need for amp, the bass is already to high and you can feel the speaker pumping your eardrums already. Really can feel the driver vibrate with bass. I may call it dancing headphone.

I think if you listening to hip hop, dance, trance (and alike), Beat really a good choice. For rock and pop... I did try the Solo... sound a little muddy.

Anyway, you should know that Beat was made by Dr. Dre and for sure the sound will follow his taste.
