Adui, i was about to set my sight on Sienna then u guys talk about Ryobi Arctica. laugh.gif

Now I am torn between 2 reels, any more reels between RM100-Rm200 to recommend ? After got a few options then I will go Kepong Tackle to test them.

One of the SG site said Arctica comes with 2 spools and 1 year warranty thumbup.gif , anyone can confirm that ?

I have seen Arctica in Kepong Tackle but never seen Arctica II before. There is also not much review on Arctica II on the net.

i prefer mono line though braided is stronger no doubt, perhaps u can explain other advantages of braided over mono?
*
Braided has smaller diameter than mono of the same poundage. Fit more meters into the spool. And because of that, lets say if you need 200m lines for sea fishing, you can use 40lbs of braided but only 15lbs mono. Smaller diameter also important if you do bottom fishing or jigging in sea fishing because it doesnt carry away by current. Braided easier to tie knots, the knots tied also not big knots which cause backlash when casting. Smaller diameter casts better, fly further. Mono lines have memory which braided doesnt. Memory is like when you take the lines off the spool it will curl itself up. Curls like these will cause also backlashes, forms knots. Mono tends to twist itself very easily if you dont use swivel, twisted monos are easily snapped. Newer braideds have 8 strands, meaning if 4 strands are damaged by teeth and sharp rocks, u still have half its strength whereas mono snaps easily when apply pressure after it is damaged.

However mono lines also have their advantages which i observed. Mono sinks in water while braided not easily sank. Meaning if you do fishing with floats, and its windy, the braided will get blown away easily because its always on the surface. If you are a user of baitcaster and once you get a birdnest, the mono is easier to untangled than the braided, so that you dont waste too much of precious time untangling.

I read somewhere that braided line tends to slip in the spool.

Need new type of spool or need "backing" to prevent slipping.

Anyone got experience in spooling braided line ?

Better not lo, you'll only reduce the lifespan of your expensive reels. My few jigging reels, popping reel, bottom reels never touch pond water one. I sayang-sayang them, give them hot bath after sea trip, greese n oil them.

Braided lines and the spool have little friction, mono lines indeed will have better friction. What you can do is like pskk, add friction, either by stick some paddings like how power pro braided would include in their package.
Or, another method is attach the braided to a meter or two mono line, using good knots like a double uni knot. Cover the whole two meter of mono to the spool before tying the arbor knot.
Some reels do have rubber placed in the spool, and they called them braided ready spool. Like the penn stragus is one of them.

Im not exactly sure what are you trying to say lol. But FG knot is a tying method to attach braided main line to a mono leader. You can also tie/attach braided to leader using other knots like the slim beauty, PR knot, Albright knot, double uni knot, and etc. such knots are often used on jigging games, casting games because sometimes having a snap swivel in between could affect the castings distance or unable to reel in the jigs (jigging games require 3 meters leader to absorb shock and also to hide your mainline from fish's sight)
