ok, i don't know about EZbase 3.0 so i wanna ask that if the custom rom is base on xxjvp (ezbase is xwjvb right?) after we flash to ezbase 3.0,do we need to flash xxjvp again then only flash custom rom in recovery? hmm.gif
*
Not ezbase 3.0

Just flash ezboot gingerbread to get the bootloader. Download is less than 10mb. After that, flash any gb custom rom.

Answering to your question, no need to flash stock jvp(after ezbase) to flash custom rom that is based from jvp. This is because custom ROMs are whole rom.

my short review on galnet 3.1

installation:
- horrible.CM7 > cleared cache & dalvik cache > galnet 3.1 > bootloop. repeated that, but still fails
- tried with ezbase 2.0 first, but still fails
- hit the thread, suggested to flash galnet 2.2 first. so this time it works
- heard 3.2 installation is better.

UI
- very beautiful. default one may look iphonish but i quickly change to a better theme.
- i'm spolied with lots of beautiful & polished themes to choose. the chinese are very hard working!

usability
- settings page is more streamlined than cm7/stock samsung/aosp. easier to find stuffs
- can't find call blacklist feature.
- nice ftp server built-in. i clicked start service and access it from nautilus on my linux box. very easy to set up.
- much-more-sense file manager. I can find files sorted by file type in a folder fashion.
- Download app that's actually worked. I wonder why it didn't work with cm7
- better dialer and contact app than cm7
- horrible stock launcher. how am i suppose to find apps quickly when they are unsorted and I have to scroll horizontally?!
- outdated gapps. easily fixed though,

battery
- as horrible as cm7

speed
- fine, faster than stock samsung. but may not be as good as cm7. i haven't flashed custom kernel with it yet.

Kesian the CM7 devs and the ROM. Battery drain complaints here and there, kena buta only. From what I've read and understood, the so-called battery drain is likely due to active-standby interaction issues between CM7 and the modem drivers provided by Samsung. It seems that Samsung for some reason or other cannot or will not provide full sources for their complete firmwares (maybe licensing agreements with radio chip manufacturer?) so the CM7 devs have to make do with a lot of educated guesswork and analysis without access to sources.

In any case, my advice to those considering CM7 especially those who plan to have 3G-data enabled 24x7, please get a bigger capacity battery to save yourselves a lot of headache.
*
True. Many of the drivers are closed sourced. Samsung cannot reveal the code because of NDA with hardware supplier. Even Supercurio had trouble figuring out the audio driver for the phone initially.

I hopw that the talented CM7 hackers will finally figure out all of the remaining drivers.
So don't bash, but donate if you have money so that they will be kept motivated smile.gif

haha i tried cm7... very plain if not i would love it, pure speed, really smooth hahaha
i got no problem flashing the latest MIUI, but i nvr tried galnet... XD
similar method
EZbase 2.0 > Cm7 initial kernal > Wipe Data/Factory reset & Format /system > Flash MIUI > Reboot > Flash Language Pack
i'm not sure why many have problems with the installation  hmm.gif

Added on July 4, 2011, 11:36 pm

so to say, other CM7 roms for devices like DHD dont have batt drain issues?
*
different hardware will have different drivers. each driver has to be reverse-engineered by cm7 team.

Maybe there are a lot android users that really love the ipong but couldn't have it for some reasons and therefore make their SGS look like it!  Can't really blame them.  Even Samsung is trying to make the phones look like ipong.

I have my own reason why I like the iPong theme.  Its because I have the iPad and having a similar looks and feel makes it a lot easier for me when using both devices without the need to adapt.
*
To put it on another perspective, android users can mod their phone whichever they want without being prevented so. They already have an advanced os, put on an iOS skin = advanced beautiful phone.

Fyi, apple did everything to prevent iOS users from jb but they fail everytime.

Yes you can use 3g call. It has existed since it first came out in June last year. Ym also works, but you need to be rooted to use the front camera. See first page.

odd that it suddenly reboots. Try clearing cache, dalvik cache.

Incompatible theme perhaps? Is the theme made for JVQ?

Hi, sifus, may I know how well is the Samsung Stock GB ROM performing?
The File system still RFS or EXT4?
How many input method are there in GB stock ROM?
Any default Chinese KB?
How about custom ROM? Are they getting stable? :-p
*
My take on custom rom: most custom rom makers make heavy changes to the stock one. As a result it breaks many things and becomes unstable. IMO, the most reliable custom ROMs are doc's and insanity.

Hey gmhafiz,

I'm not sure why SpiderOak's interface is slow using my PC. It's working as it should on my laptop (though I feel it lags a bit)
*
the software? Not sure about sugarsync but all the files and password are encrypted on your machine before they are transmitted to the internet. I didn't know Dropbox doesn't do this, that's why I switched. The encryption process must have used many cpu cycles.

Yes, spideroak's software. Haven't started uploading anything. The thing slowing down the software is the browsing tree. I think it's in the middle of calculating the size (though on my laptop it was ok, just minor lags).

I'm using sugarsync too. Don't have a referral from you on that (too bad sad.gif). The interface is fast and nice. Though, security wise, it doesn't have the "zero knowledge security of spideroak".

Ok enough off topic here :S

Have you tried their android softwares? Which is better for you?
*
if you have referral link, you can pm me for sugarsync. I'm about to try the mobile app.

I'm not aware superoneclick works with gingerbread. Better do as suggested, flash a GB custom kernel like cf-root, speedmod, etc.

one quick question, What is the Android system/OS bug? .. just came back a month+/- so not very up to date tongue.gif .. thanks biggrin.gif

battery drain that affects 2.3.3 firmwares. It seemed to affect phones randomly as some did not get it. Nobody knew how to fix it although some has suggested to just make a reboot to make the bug disappear.

Btw,i know why the google plus invite doesn't work now. The invite mechanism has actually closed very shortly after it was first opened. But there was a workaround on how to still invite people. I used this hack to invite you guys. Unfortunately, google found out about it and closed that hack.

I can confirm that with CM7, I can't remember any instances where I got a lag. I tested this with nightly #34. The lag has gone long before this nightlies.

Dunno about Android because I don't have 200-300 apps yet on my phone or Tab. Maybe too many services (e.g. Skype) running at the same time will affect us?
*
too many services and start up programs will slow down the phone.

But having 99999+ apps installed won't (as long as they aren't background service and start up programs).

Linux doesn't have legacy windows registry. That's the beauty of it smile.gif

Just don't interchange CWM modem package and odin modem package. They won't work on one another.

IMO, it is safer using CWM modem package. I haven't tried flashing modem odin package alone before.

take note that, I might be wrong on all this remarks. try the rom yourself.

hehe I LOL'd at that. Insanity is a minimalist rom. It's samsung photoshop rom (version 8.5) size is only 85MB+ only while his insanity CM7 rom is 40MB+

QUOTE(Star_knight79 @ Jul 7 2011, 05:50 PM)
Hi, May I know how do we check background services that are running?
How to terminate them? Will the phone reopen the apps/ services again?
What are the essential background services that MUST BE RUNNING all the time?
Thanks for the advice. smile.gif
*
If you are on gingerbread:
- Hold home button > App manager > click Running

Don't terminate any of them to clear memory. The app could l reopen by it selfs and may lead to battery drain. Just let the android OS manages its RAM on its own. When RAM is low, it will automatically properly closes background app to make way for a new app.

Sometimes, you will feel lag when you have many apps running at once. Try using autokiller (see front page) and set to "optimized" profile. Setting a very high profile will, OTOH makes app closes far too often and is annoying.

Not sure about essential background services but no need to know this one.

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Jul 7 2011, 06:09 PM)
I don't like to install and use system (cpu/memory/network) monitoring tools because the monitoring itself can sometimes affect the phone's performance. Therefore I just go to Settings / Applications / Running services to see what is going on under the hood.

In fact, I don't even kill running apps. I sometimes press the back button to come out of an app, or I press the home button, leaving the OS to manage itself by using AutoKiller to set minfree settings at boot (Moderate preset).

Note : In CM7, we can also enable 'long-press back button' to kill the actively running app. Good to have for emergency use since there is no actual Task Manager or Program Monitor like what Samsung-based ROMs have.

Currently on my phone, I see these apps/services listed as running:

Media - 4MB  (1 process and 0 services)
Settings - 14MB (1 process and 0 services)
Voodoo Control Plus - 6.4MB (1 process and 1 service)
WhatsApp - 5.6MB (1 process and 1 service)
Maps - 5.7MB (1 process and 1 service)
Skype - 5.5MB  (1 process and 1 service)
Bluetooth Share - 3.1MB  (1 process and 2 services)
Google Services - 14MB  (2 processes and 2 services)
Smart Keyboard Pro - 8.2MB  (1 process and 1 service)

135MB RAM Used, 166MB RAM free

So far my phone has been fine, apps launch quickly, I can multitask with no delay and battery life seems OK for me especially after the recent CM7 nightly updates.

Most modem package you find are usually CWM package (ends in zip) and are meant to be flashed through recovery mode. Those odin package (ends with (tar.md5) are found when you download whole rom.
