hello guys icon_rolleyes.gif
simple questions here, got confused after reading all the post  rclxub.gif
i've been using optimus one before and now using sgs.
1) step for rooting both phone is different?
2) can someone guide me how to root this phone. want to root it first because i want to use titanium backup before flashing a custom rom into it.
3) lastly, whats the different flashing using odin and flashing via recovery mode?
*
Hi, welcome to the thread!

1. I believe so.
2. Are you on froyo on gingerbread? Guide is at front page
3. flashing with Odin: using a windows software to flash rom/kernel/modem in the download mode. needs usb cable.
flashing in recovery mode: flashing modem/apps/kernels in the recovery mode. no need for usb cable.

im on gingerbread(2.3.3).
i only can see step for flashing rom at front page.can give me link to root it first.
just want to backup all my apps using titanium backup before flashing it.
so basically both way are doing the same thing right?
*
To root gingerbread, just flash a custom kernel like cf-root/speedmod/talon/voodoo

Step is the same as with froyo: http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010...to-install.html
Once you have flashed the kernel. You will need to install superuser app from the market.

Both does the same thing. flashing by CWM is always the most preferable one as it is safer. Odin is more complicated and one can make mistake with it. There are few instances where odin is needed such as updating bootloader or flashing stock rom.

addon: anyway, good questions, updating the front page biggrin.gif

gmhafiz, can u give your personal experience using insanity rom? pro n cons from any others rom that u ?

***

Insanity ROM
1. insanity cm7
- build from cm7 nightlies. not updated as often as cm7 though.
- size is only 40MB+. so you can imagine many fat are stripped off
- dpi is reduced, 182 i think. so everything looks smaller
- everything feels like a tweaked cm7: cm7 + strip fat + nitrality + 182 dpi
- honestly, i am no longer following the thread so i don't know the latest development.

2. insanity 8.5
- based of JVB
- abandoned to focus on cm7

to lunatique, both methods above can be used. it is just that when you use ezbase 2.0, you automatically get froyo bootloader as well as cwm in one odin flash. the only downside is ezbase 2.0 download is huge!

for enaleni's steps, you must also clear cache, dalvik cache, and format /system. The latest miui might do all this automatically (need to verify) but it doesn't hurt to do it before flashing it.

It was very popular back then. But AFAIK, now nobody is using it here. Don't know why. Why don't you try it? It is known for stability.

Like everyone else said, it is more likely a kernel problem.

*
Try what has been suggested by Kenneth. Speedmod kernel is only compatible with the rom made for international version, ie i9000. If you want to use speedmod, you must flash i9000 rom.

I saw a lot of Australia users flashing i9000 roms without problems.

for me no matter what happen flash back to ezbase 2.0 or 3.0 always the best/safe/easy. but i don't know whether your phone can use or not.
*
I agree on flashing ezbase. The simplest one odin flash to solve all flashing problems.

*
Try doc's kitchen for single app cwm package, or insanity 8.5 cwm package. Then open the zip, replace whatever apk in the /data folder with your thinkfree apk. Try using 7-zip software if you cannot see the folders.

Jailbreaking an iOS device and rooting an Android device are not exactly the same things, but for layman and non-techie, maybe it's easier to think they are the same.

Android without being rooted already can do many of the things that iOS need to be jailbroken for, if I remember correctly.
*
Technically, jailbreaking an iOS is rooting. Like you said, many things can already be done in android without rooting compared to a non-jailbroken iOS.

What ROM that your guys use?i've try darkys and JUWE,i hate when the phone lag after i close SMS,it lag at the home screen, already change the ext to ext4 and score around 2000++ in Quadrant,i dont know why SGS always lag,and i can count how many times a day i need to remove battery because of lag while im playing the game..pfff~!
*
- uninstall quadrant, it is useless for our hummingbird chip
- lag is unavoidable in all samsung rom. CM7 OTOH is lagless
- when you are playing game, lots of rams are being used. so naturally, your phone will lag. RAM is cleared to make way for your game. But if you too many background apps, clearing the RAM might take some time.

and "Neng" market, battery monitor widget

tats all
*
- talkbox might be draining your battery as other forumers here have reported

I am using Galnet MIUI V4 and I cannot sign into Google Market and GMail apps.

I am using wifi as I do not have any data plan.  Do I need data plan to access Market?

What I see is a message "Your phone needs to communicate with Google servers to set up your account.  This may take up to 5 minutes"

Then after a while, I get this...

"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"
*
- I once got that using htc tattoo running eclair. I searched and I found out that it is a bug in eclair. The only workaround was to do a factory reset.
- I suggest make a backup, then format /data, /system, cache, dalvik cache and then reflash miui.

Even if your wifi is hijacked, transaction is done securely (encrypted) with https protocol. Could be rouge app?

QUOTE(fishtail @ Jul 15 2011, 03:40 PM)
hey Everybody here..

just some noob question..

i am now on XXJVP and with speedmod K15Ht22 Kernel, lagfix enable.

sometimes that i notice my ram is high enough that is 220 / 335 MB

when i click clear memory, it state no app close.

can i ask is this normal?
*
some points to be remembered.
- RAM are there to be used
- too many free RAM means your phone will be under-utilized
- some apps are stored in the RAM as cache. So that when you open that app, it will open instantly. Nice isn't it?
- Those cache builds up and fills in your RAM
- Thus it appears as if there are very little free RAM available. But that doesn't matter because you'll attain quick app loading time.
- When you are opening an app that is not in the cache but with little RAM is free, cached apps will be cleared automatically to make way for the app you are opening now. There might be a slight lag at this instance.
- Sometimes android OS RAM management might not be good, or it is samsung's setting. Thus we use Autokiller app to adjust this setting. I used Moderate profile for this.

Thus,
- Never use task killer programs to clear the RAM. You will always feel lag later on because the phone will be loading the app into cache again. Why don't we just leave it in the cache?
- Furthermore, there are some apps that will automatically re-open after you clear the RAM. Thus, increasing cpu cycles.

tldr;
1. Use autokiller if you feel lag
2. Don't use task killer apps.

feel free to correct me smile.gif

hi dears, can anyone help me pls~
I just got this phone and downloaded some games..
It all goes to my phone memory not my internal memory.
How to move them to internal memory?
I dun have micro sd card, because the my phone is 16Gb.
Please teach me, it's making my phone lag like craziie sad.gif
*
- From 16GB, you got 2GB apps storage, 13GB for you photos, movies, 1GB is reserved.
- phone memory = internal memory
- those app you downloaded goes into your 2GB partition
- it won't lag when saved into it.
- If you move it into external sdcard, apps will be slower because microsd card are nowhere near the speed of the internal sdcard.

Added on July 17, 2011, 4:18 pmEven if you filled in 2GB quota, phone won't become slower. Android is built upon linux, not windows biggrin.gif

is this normal?
*
that doesn't seem normal.

- which firmware are you on?
- wifi/gps/bluetooth on?

guys, should i switch to MIUI/CM7? My current ROM Simply Honey 3.9 still have occasional lags and battery prob, even on ext4, it still doesn't provide me the smooth operation. battery life is equally important to me, my data and sync is 24/7 ON with 3G, used to have a good battery life with 2.3.3, but the moment i upgrade to 2.3.4, my Android OS % shoot up to 20%.. used to be 7-9% previously. now on average use, could last me only 5-6 hours(moderate usage), 12-14hours(minimal usage, phone on sleep mode 70% of the time). Any suggestions?  doh.gif

If battery life is important, don't flash CM7/Miui just yet.
