Just gave my passport in to stamp my visa tongue.gif Now all I have to wait for is my accommodation receipt biggrin.gif

Wow! I just applied for my visa today xD. Still don't know what to do about my accommodation, on-campus didn't reply me, going to look at a room in TTS2 tomorrow (or the day after).

Welcome to UNMC! As far as I know, MacBook can boot Windows as well, if you know how to configure it out. wink.gif
*
Yeah I know, haha, but I need to buy another copy of Windows 7 (don't know if "Indonesian technique" aka buy the pirated version is applicable in Malaysia xD), and Windows performance on Mac is not really great (I've tried), battery life decreased by a lot and the system goes on fire xD.

Don't get a MacBook. Why run Windows on a MacBook when you are paying a premium for the OS itself? While the more popular engineering software supports MacBook as well, there is no guarantee you an get a crack version of it running on Mac OS. In the end, you have to resort to the workaround of running Windows on it.
BTW, if you join Nottingham, you'll have free copies of Windows 7, Vista, XP etc.

I think you'll use MATLAB only for foundation - but if you intend to bring it to the Netherlands in the future, you'll need to make sure what they use over there. For foundation level MATLAB, any new laptop will do - even the low-voltage CPU you see in super thin laptops will suffice - but if you want future proof it, get something powerful.
*
Yeah I'm trying to avoid Mac now. Never use them but I've tried them before.
Maybe am getting this:

Full specs here

I found it in the HP Singapore Online Store, but when I went to Singapore yesterday I can't find it (only can find Envy4).

Is it available in Malaysia?

I believe it does. You can go to the Garage Sales, Notebook section in lowyat.net to check for laptops.
I am in a shopping of laptop as well and maybe can offer some advice? If you want something portable, something that big (in term of length and width) won't do justice. It may not be heavy but it's hard to put in a bag, hold in your hand etc. You need to look for something more petite (smaller, not thinner) but you'll sacrifice screen estate (smaller screen, maybe less immersive movie viewing experience). What do you want apart form enough performance for university work?
*
hahaha, big screen is what I want, that's why I chose that xD.

any recommendations? xD. I don't want anything that's heavy though, big is okay, heavy is no okay, lol.
still waiting for envy6, it fits my bill, in terms of what I need and what I have, hahaha. and it would be better if Mayuyu signed it whistling.gif (hey HP, can u hear me?! xD).

Hey guys am back from Malaysia xD.
First time went to Kajang, walao, the city so dirth, rubbish everywhere! xD. But when I went to the uni, it's like totally different. So green, the air is so fresh xD. The staffs there are also friendly, I tried to find accommodation and they recommended me to find Ms. Sharon and so I called her, got a room in TTS5 she said that I'll be sharing it with another guy from JB. Regarding the visa, I asked the visa office and they said that I can come in with a tourist visa first since I've applied for my student visa already, so international guys like me, who haven't got their student visa, don't worry! smile.gif.

I'll be moving there next week, see all of u guys there! xD.

On the day of registration, I need to pay my full tuition fees for a semester, right? (I'm in foundation), and as far as I know I can pay with bank draft, but the problem is I can't buy a bank draft in Ringgit here in Indonesia T__T, what to do?

EDIT: There are a few international banks here, I tried to look in their websites. BII-Maybank doesn't provide bank draft in ringgit, neither do CIMB Niaga, can't find any info on OCBC NISP and HSBC rclxub.gif

EDIT2: Is the airport pickup required for every international student? I mean, I can just take a ferry to JB and take a bus to KL then take a taxi to the school, there's no plane from my place to KLIA/LCCT, and the closest solution to taking a plane is for me to take a ferry to Singapore then take a plane to KLIA (which is very expensive). If I don't use the airport pickup, what do I have to do after I've arrived there? (I live off-campus by the way), my student visa is not yet done, but when I visit the visa office they said that I can go in with a tourist visa and just submit my passport and they'll process it for me. After I've arrived there do I need to register with someone or something?

Dear Howang Tommy,
Firstly it is an optional service. Secondly If you read the "Airport Pickup Info", You will find the following matters:

Note: The airport pick-up information is only applicable to student entering Malaysia with the ‘Approval for Foreign Student Studying in Malaysia’ letter

I submitted the required docs for visa but still i didn't have receive any approval letter so although I have applied for the airport pickup but I think can't use this service if can't get that letter.

My flight is on 16th Sep. 10:55pm from Tehran by AirAsia X.
*
If it's optional, then I'm okay xD.

QUOTE(tanjinjack @ Sep 9 2012, 04:11 PM)
I believe a lot of these questions could be answered by the admission. Try to call them for quicker responses since it's close to the date already.

If bank draft in MYR is not possible for you at the moment, maybe you can consider paying via credit cards? I think CIMB or Maybank in Indonesia should be able to work something out. Ask them if you could get a bank draft in Malaysia in MYR even though your account is opened in Indonesia.

If airport is not convenient, I think you can always find a way to reach Nottingham yourself - it can't be required for every international students considering students from Singapore would not opt for air travel as well. I am not sure if it's possible, but a ferry to Klang (if that's available) would be more viable as it's nearer to the university. You'll probably need to find a way from Klang to go to KL Sentral. From there on, you can go anywhere including Nottingham (probably a mix of train and taxi, of just taxi if you just want to reduce the hassle).

As for visa, I think you will need to go to the Indonesian embassy some time when you are here. There's a visa office in Nottingham that should be able to provide you with the information and service you want.
*
As for the payments, can I transfer by bank (TT) then just bring the receipt when I arrive there?

As for going to Nottingham, I've been there and I know how, hehe. I'm from Batam, which is near Singapore and JB (not near Klang, that's another part of Indonesia, lol). When I went there last week, I took a bus from Singapore to TBS, then took a taxi to Nottingham (it was with my parents, this time going alone I wanna try riding the KTM from Tasik Selatan to Kajang xD).

After I've arrived there (around 14th Sep) do I need to report to anyone (that I've arrived there with a tourist visa whilst waiting for my student visa) or something? When I went to the visa office, they just told me that I can come in with a tourist visa to Malaysia since I've applied for my student visa and they'll process everything for me once I got there.

HAHA as long as can tumpang then we go, lol xD.

I'm staying in TTS5, I tried walking from the house to the school, from house to bridge, no problem, from bridge to school, wa lao, it's like naik bukit, lol.
If I ride bike do I ride a bike to the bridge and park it there or do I bring it all the way to school? haha. I don't wanna spend a lot on bikes, jacktay94 u seem to be experienced about bike, haha xD. I wonder if u guys have fixie over there, considering it is low maintenance.

Anyway next time u guys wanna go Subang area can tumpang? lol. A lot of my friends are there xD. Most of Indonesians from my area go to school there xD.

actually can lah bro, haha.. change the gear ratio.. wonder if they have varieties of gear ratios there, haha.. I never ride fixie before, but for this kind of situation a fixed gear is low maintenance, haha xD (I used to use a mountain bike here).

Are u already there? I'm moving there this Friday. Let's go yum cha! xD.

Hey! I'm from Batam, Indonesia. Ferry dock in Stulang Laut, hehe.
I'm sure u know Batam xD. It's very near to Singapore and JB.

BTW, ur username, the "cempedak" part, in Indonesian language it is the name of a fruit xD.

EDIT: What operator is the best for use in campus? I need mobile internet. I used DiGi when I went there, signal is quite good outdoors but indoors the signal went wonky (especially in the SA canteen!)
