Not as I know of .....

QUOTE(milky @ Jul 29 2011, 10:53 PM)
btw wat is the usage for VLAN?...
Walau, how to explain this, I'm not expert in this, just try my luck to explain .... sweat.gif
UniFi uses the following vlans so can deliver these services through a single fibre line:
vlan.400 = VoIP
vlan.500 = Internet
vlan.600 = IPTV

So we need to have a device which can tag/untag at port-level to enjoy those services. nod.gif

if 841ND is not recommended for VLAN which one is good?
Er, what do you mean ?? blink.gif

Erm... Klseet. I'm thinking... After i get 841ND with custom firmware, can i actually flash dir615 with ddwrt to monitor usage? As i know ddwrt has quite nice usage monitoring feature. Can I make it as bridge or something before 841ND then monitor the usage? Just in case when quota is implemented. haha

...My office just upgraded internet line from Streamyx to Unifi.

I unplugged Stremayx Router, turned off the switch, then plugged Unifi router to the switch and turned the switch on. I tried different ports on the switch and router but still have problem to connect to internet.

Do we need switch with VLAN support to connect Unifi?

Anyone can help on this? Thank you.

Cheers.

May I know what "switch" are you referring to?
You mean those UniFi contractor didn't test the connection for you?

Hi Klseet,

Thanks for the reply.

I am using Levelone brand's switch and model number is FSW-1650. Product information can be found from here Levelone - FSW-1650

The Unifi contractor tested the connection through direct network connection to laptop and it worked well. However, the contractor said they are not responsible for any networking configuration.

Currently, I am able to surf from WIFI and also direct network connection between laptop and Unifi router. But when I connected the Unifi router to my switch to share internet with all workstation. The internet just didn't work for sharing with workstations. My office networking is only simple Windows networking sharing. Only workgroup and no server installed.

My friend said that I need to upgrade my switch to VLAN support switch to be able to connect Unifi and share with workstation. Is that correct? Or do I have other choice to solve this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers.

It should works if you only using switch to share the internet. You only needs vlan capable switch if you wanna replace the router provided the TM.

The ip address is correct for unifi and old streamyx? If you using different IP than you need to change the IP in unifi router.. Lan section.

If you like to use dd-wrt, then may be can get a dd-wrt supported device, prefer Atheros or Ralink (eg, TL-WR941ND), flash it & create vlan.500 connect to the BTU's port1 for internet.

Then configure the DIR-615 as bridge mode per Riz's guide (set manual & disable the PPPoE vlan.500) connect to BTU's port2 to watch IPTV only.

Before using UniFi, do you use the Streamyx router as the main gateway DHCP & DNS, or you have other DHCP/DNS on LAN?

Assuming you are going to use the TM's router DIR-615 as the main gateway DHCP+DNS on your LAN, try to use dynamic IP for those computers, then connect the Level1 switch to the DIR-615's LANport1~3 should work.

Hey all, UNIFI newbie here,

WTA currently we connect out UNIFI gateway to our home router then to our wireless.

my bro and I both own a TPLINK wireless USB 54Mbps Wireless G but cannot connect to the gateway directly.

if we want to connect directly to the gateway, do we need to buy a new wireless USB and if we do which specifications do we need to look for.

Thanks all for reply. smile.gif

Tomorrow is my another unifi Biz5 installation at home :-)

Still cheap getting 2x 5 Mbps at RM 199 x 2 = 398

While getting 10 Mbps at = RM 599

You can save RM 201

RM 201 x 24 months contract ? = RM 4,824

cheaper but you will not get static ip, only dynamic ip

Do other devices work fine over WiFi?

Maybe you can try to change the channel , see if that makes a difference
