You can either get it from JPJ for Rm150 for a one-year duration or you can just take the exam again here in japan and pay an extra 5000-6000yen (the rate last time) but the road test here is pretty hard compared to malaysia and procedure is pretty troublesome...for example they want you to translate everything! Which was quite a pain for me last time...if u`re not planning to stay more than a year in Japan...might as well just get the international license from malaysia...it costs less anyway.,, thumbup.gif
*
Thank you so much for you reply! I'll be practically living there. So maybe 5 years? 10years? 20years? lol. I need to get their driving license someday but I'm thinking of using the int driving license for the first year because I do not speak Japanese or read so its gonna take time for me to learn before I can take the test unless they have full english test. Based on my research in Gaijinpot, they say some countries (left hand side driver) are excluded from doing the road test, provided that you have valid driving license and has driven for at least few years (i forgot how long exactly). All you need to do is just need to answer 10 random computerized road test. Is this true? and is Malaysia included in this country list? Yeah I heard about how hard it is to get it. Pain long process and the need to attend long hours classes and stuff. Did you get yourself a JP driving license?

Bro....huwaaaaaaaaaaa cry.gif  its really hard to get a license in Japan lol...
oh ya, the international drivin license only valid for a 6 months in Tokyo bro....you need to convert it to Jap license....its practically mentally abuse when you take the test hahahah...they got Bahasa Malaysia on test BUT with computer and practical on the road test damnly strict huwaaaaaaaaaa...when I was, its in nihongo...NO TRANSLATOR one!
notworthy.gif
*
In Tokyo only 6 months? Not 1 year expiring concurrently with the visa and we have to do the road test no matter what? Even if you have valid MY driving license for the past 7 years? In conclusion they do not acknowledge MY driving license. sweat.gif

.....Is there like a place where you can rent winter clothing in KL or something?
*
Buy it over there cause its cheaper and more stylish. Ask your friends if you need to borrow cause I don't know if such place exist, even if you can find one, don't expect to look good lol

QUOTE(ifana @ Oct 10 2011, 08:38 PM)
Yup its true about left hand side drivers are being excluded from the road test(well, atleast it was like this two years ago when I got my license tongue.gif ) but malaysia is not part of it...too bad...Yup i do carry a converted Japanese license! The part time job I did required me to drive tongue.gif Yup, its true that its very mafan!! troublesome!! but since u`re gonna live here for the next few years...might as well just get it here...but u`re right...its wise to use the int dri license from malaysia first whatever it is...although according to Tanoshii-san it can only be used for abt 6 months, but still easier la unless u don`t mind commuting by train for the first few months...the moment u arrive here get the license done etc etc get a car? (or are u gonna bring ur car here? No la kan? hehe) whatever it is...the procedure here is a bit leceh, not all la but some things...like this license business is mmg leceh sikit  blush.gif All the best to u though...u`re coming in december yah? Hehe I`ll be here...if u need help just ask yah  brows.gif

AGREE!! Quite hard...some of my friends failed a few times...i passed once without repeating (LUCKY!!)  icon_rolleyes.gif but its probably coz the place where i took the test is pretty much in the suburbs...so it was pretty lenient...apparently where u took the test counts!!! Well atleast, that`s what everyone says! The road test la....HARD but the invigilator was nice so lucky me! Siap borak2 samore haha.... thumbup.gif
*
Well I'm not surprise that Malaysia isn't part of the country list because most Malaysians drive like sh*t. No manners and selfish drivers. So basically our Malaysian driving license is pretty much useless. Hrmm I guess no choice but to redo all over again. I'll be staying in the middle of Tokyo so car is not really necessity but I would like to get one (maybe after I got a job) cause its darn cheap compared to MY plus I have car park space already! I'm dreaming of Lexus CT 200h, Civic Type-R, or Caldina. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif Anyhow, since you're there don't worry we'll def meet someday cause I want to speak Malay sometime lol

You can borak2 cause you speak Japs. I can't. cry.gif Gonna take sometime to learn the language. You're pretty good for passing it once rclxms.gif

LOL...those car eat fuel like drink water....Tokyo traffic so jam....you feed those car at petrol station time will more than you find a road for enjoying them.  Fuel in Japan not cheap also....no subsidies from Gov.  Except that Lexus CT200  LOL......
*
I reckon Malaysian traffic jam is worst than theirs thanks to our crap public transportation. Well don't convert the amount you're paying, think of the value. Our gas price for 1 liter is RM2.10 for regular while Japs are paying roughly Y150. That's 60 cents cheaper considering you're receiving the same amount value of money!

Hi guys, I'm going to visit Kyoto and roaming charges can be a B***H. What's good phonecard to get? I've heard there are many different types.
If i'm not mistaken my Desire HD can be used in Japan right? Can someone confirm?

thank you.
*
Any 3G based phone is usable. If you just gonna be there for a short visit just do roaming but make sure you switch off data.

Omg yeah they do want to see your license record. A paper that states from the year you first attain your license coz it has to be 90 days after you first got your license. I still remember how i had to go to jpj to ask them to "extract license". Yeah thts the term they use. As for the translation part, i did it in JAF a.k.a Japan Automobile (i forgot what F stands for lol)... Yeah i had to pay like 300 for them to translate my MY license. The point is it was quite a long process so be prepared for it... I'll let u know what else you will need from jpj so that u can prepare it before u come to save time.

Wow tanoshi-san! U worked under Tokyo movers eh!? So cool!! rclxm9.gif
*
He works under? He's the owner of Tokyo Movers lol.

That's realllllly helpful. So basically I need to go to JPJ and get int. driving license and license extract. Translation of those two would cost RM300? That's so expensive! JAF is located in MY or JP? Please let me know what else do I need to prepare cause I am at lost! Don't know what else to bring rclxub.gif

300 Yen? ahh that's cheap lol. If you have your previous driving papers then it would be awesome I can just change it accordingly to mine. Pls PM me if you have it icon_rolleyes.gif

About the car yes a lot of process but you'll get handsome money too. A friend of mine, Keio Uni grad brought back RX8, car + shipping to MY + tax - AP discount =RM70k, he can sell that car for at least RM130~140k here. See how much you can make?

QUOTE(tanoshi @ Oct 13 2011, 03:55 PM)
iFana, sorry forgot...my rental parking cheap only 12,000en...i dun need any deposit hehehe...bcoz if you rent thru fudosan you need to pay the deposit, tenkiu money, paper fess and etc. Example if the rental 12,000en monthly i need to pay 1 lump sum bout 4times huhuhuhu...

I'll be free during the weekends. But heading to Hakone with amois for some onsen on 26th Nov brows.gif
Got so expensive or not? Will stick to the vending machines then...

BTW, how the broadband services work there? is there free public wifi around the city?
or do you need a personal telco account to stay connected?
prepaid phone seller? by contract or a one-off purchase? still trying to figure out the works sweat.gif
i'm only using the 1st generation iphone and ipad2 (wifi only) so having data is not necessary.
a basic mobile phone line is good enough. better if got good rates for oversea calls/texts smile.gif
*
Try to book private Onsen if they have one. You can take hot bath naked with your amois and I'll be happy to follow you too whistling.gif

They do not provide free Wifi like we do here that's what I noticed and of the telco companies charge pretty expensive for Overseas text/call. If im not mistaken roughly ¥50 per minute/per text. That's like RM2 rclxub.gif

I'm still waiting for my Spouse Visa Approval. It has been 2 months I guess. If its not ready by next week I'll enter Japan using Social Visit Visa. I was told by City Council personnel, once it has been approved I can change to Spouse Visa in Japan itself so I'm all good i reckon. My daughter will enter as Japanese citizen since her name (and my name) is already in the Koseki.
