Really? Great!! Will try on my ipad 2 tonight.. But... I only have 1 regular cellphone number that is already being activated with Viber on my iphone4.. So, do u mean i need to have another cellphone number??

QUOTE(Viber @ Jul 28 2011, 03:36 PM)
Yes, it can.
Instructions:

1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod.
2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone's number, then confirm.
3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod. Viber will then be activated, and you're good to go.

* this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod.

as far as i know, data and voice are separated. But the voice quality is not as good as you imagine. Most of the time you might not be able to hear clearly or the voice on the other end is just too soft to hear. i'm on the RM68 plan

it doesn't make sense that the connection between two party uses data but it will be as low as a few kb so i don't think it will be a problem.

Agree. My friends likes to call me on Viber and sometimes I'm so fedup with the cracking line I just hang up and call back using the conventional way. I think it works best if both party is using a stable home WIFI connection.

Hi Viber,
Any idea why some devices like Android base HTC Wildfire can't support Viber?

Hi. Have used Yes Life (trial period) but not Viber. Good job in the front page to highlight the difference but I think Viber is more similar to Skype. What is the main difference between both (Viber vs Skype)?

How bout comparing with Talkbox as well?

Tnx bro smile.gif Both same just VOIP but using different method that Viber user can skip away troublesome procedure such as the registration using e-mail as ID, remember a password, add friend and approve friend. Your Viber identity is your international telephone number. How do Viber verify that you are indeed the owner of the phone number you typed in registration? Simple. Viber send you an SMS with a code. Then once you enter the right code, Viber give you the identity that's identical to your real phone number.
1st time hear about Talkbox.

@sugen - yes, for your iPad (unless it has its own SIM card), you'll need another number (your home number, for example).

HTC Wildfire and HTC Hero are currently unavailable in Market, and that it is because we encountered severe issues when developing Viber on it.
However, we decided that we will bring it back to Market soon. Meanwhile, you can use this link to manually download the .APK intended for partially-supported devices: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php/Knowledg...-android-market

About 3G networks - they can sometimes be disrupted and not fully handle VoIP calls (some would say - intentionally). This naturally affects Viber and damages its quality, and unfortunately there is nothing much we (Viber) can do about it - it's in the hands of the cellular companies.

In the future we plan to add an option to manually "lower" the quality of Viber calls on 3G calls, thus "sacrificing" on quality in order to still be able to still make calls on low-reception 3G areas.

Anyway, a WiFi-WiFi call on Viber should sound clear and with no interruptions, as long as there are no bottlenecks between the two Viber users (a slow server, slow ISP, etc.)

Just to give my 2 cents..
I've been using viber for months now..
if i'm on a strong wifi & my buddy on weak digi 3G.. the call quality sucks.
if i'm on strong digi 3g & my buddy on maxis 3g the call is good.. no lag/delay
however i'm using the YES trial now & i;ve gotta say its pretty good. reason? because my buddy doesnt have to be on any data plan..
as long as i'm on my own wifi i can call based on 9cent a minute..
good value cuz Digi at my house is very bad (only one line no 3G)

A new version of Viber for Android has just been released: 2.0.1
What's new?

- "Exit" button. Note that shutting Viber off may result in unavailability to receive calls and texts.
- Important features, such as Proximity Sensor, are now enabled by default.
- Viber-contacts identification mechanism was improved.
- Many other bug fixes.

Please find the new version in Market. We'd love to hear your feedback!

Hi, I have a problem having viber to recognise my friend's contacts as a viber contact, although they in fact are using viber.

One thing I observed is that this happened right after I sorted all my contact list to include international number prefixes (i.e. +06, etc). It is right after that my friend's contacts stopped having the viber indicator next to it.

Anyway to fix this rather than having to remove the international number prefixes?

PS: I'm using Iphone 4.

@sugen - we released Viber for iPhone 2.0.4 about a month ago, but major updates are only planned to be released in a few months or so.

@ENTj - recognizing your contacts should work regardless of whether you saved the number with or without the country prefix (that is - if you are talking about people in the same country as you). In other words, you should be able to save a number either like this: 011-XXXX-XXXX or like this: +60-11-XXXX-XXXX

Try this workaround:
Enter Viber and find a person you know has Viber in the "All" contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he's recognized as a Viber user now.

If it doesn't work, please try manually dialing the number in its FULL format (including the "+" sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

Thanks! worked like a charm. biggrin.gif
Seems like it needs to 'refresh' abit to acknowledge other viber users.

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to announce that according to preliminary results, it seems as though we managed to find and fix the collision problem of Viber with CM7 and MIUI ROMs (and possible the rest as well)
Both these ROMs "change" the device's identity (virtually, of course), preventing Viber from adapting itself correctly to the device's microphone configuration. This is why most of you with ROMs experienced the one-side audio issue.

Anyway - we are working on adding a fix to the new version that will hopefully be officially released next week to Market.

Updates soon,
Viber.

Nice to hear that, and I'm still using Viber everyday.
I really hope there is a customize ringtone function in the future because the current viber ringtone is quite hard to be heard sometimes.
