Just came back from Taipei. The weather there is nothing but hot, hot and HOT! It was hot in the city and when we went to Yeliou Geopark. But it was raining when we got to YangMingShan, so we didn't really get to see much. YangMingShan and Yeliou is a definite "must see". Will go back for YangMingShan the next time I'm in Taiwan.

Hi guys,

We need help here.
We will be going to Taiwan again on March 2012 for 7days 6nights.
In a group pf 13 people, free and easy trip.
Last year me and my wife went to Taiwan for honeymoon,we stayed at Cityinn hotel at Huai Ning Street. Next year we plan to stay at the same hotel again. Hotel rate is about TW1790 per night, some of our friends feels that it's quite expensive. Any good recommendation or not for other hotel choices?

Any hotel suggestion? Or any of you had try some nearby? I've been through many site of the information regarding the hotels but due to limited pictures, it cause me bit hard to decide which one is better?!
Well, yes it was cold. The temperature shows around 17'C, roughly like Genting Highlands at night. But if the wind consistently blow at u at lower temp, soon or later its may freeze u up... So i m guess a jacket, long sleeve, scarf, socks, glove shud be sufficient ...

How long you heading there?
*
sorry. can't help you much as i seldom stay at that area.

I think 17C is somehow even COLDER than genting highlands. So don't try challenge the weather.
and yes, you should get yourself at least jacket, scarf and glove

Buying warm keeping stuff at Taiwan is soooo convenient, and price is fair enough. I think wait until you buy at Taiwan is not an issue

Taiwan now is no doubt very hot, and dry!
YMS doesn't have much thing to see now. The best time to go is within March til June. Especially end May is the Lily season!

City inn hotel at ZHONGZHENG district you mean? herm.. not very convenient summore...
i strongly recommend you this:
http://yotong.ffh.com.tw/
rate from 14xx, a 2 star hotel, but more than enough for a stay.
All basic stuff you need in a stay, also free internet.
with 13 people for 7 days 6 night stay, they will provide Limo pickup.

Most important, very convenient. Just in front of the plaza there goes a MRT station

For temperature not less than 10C, no need scarf & glove-lah. Only if below 10c or even lower, you need a scarf. Glove if below 5C

Added on November 14, 2011, 4:03 pmIf strong wind, the 17C can drop to 13C and will be hily but still no need scarf & glove-lah...Anyway, at 17C without wind is actualy nice temperature and almost similar to ~ 21C in CH/Genting not the other way round.. Over there it is dry but Genting is wet & cool.

I just came back from Beijing.. on avg Afternoon- Evening temperature avg 14C and nite & early Morning ~ 6- 10C. Still no need scarf & glove even Nite & early Morning.. OK only.. but once temp drop to 5C, yes need scarf liao. normal glove also can at 5C & below

scarf or glove anot, i think it's quite personal. Let say if you can tahan 1 hour 16C aircond, you might have no problem staying out there at Taiwan. If not, trust me, dont try...

Taiwan's climate is dry at Dec/Jan...

I was there mid Dec 2009, and temperature is not as cold as what I expected lor. Yes really yoyo. On the day I arrived.. I was shocked bcos it was not cool but hot temp at 26C. Only on nxt day temp dropped to 20C and the 3rd day avg 18-20C wth nite & early Morning temperature ~ 15C. Only in Jan & Feb Taiwan temp will drop further to ~ 10C. Infact I dunno why but comparing Hong Kong & Macau which is having lower latitude than Taiwan, That area is much colder.

Anyway, as you say, probably personal lor..but also you must see the overall Taipeis folks style of winter wear.. If they dun wear glove and you go and wear abit odd lor haha.. Just like last week when I arrived at Beijing and Temperature that day Evening ~ 14C. Well I feel more like CH nite time nia..~17C CH. just wear a sweater.. I can see few M'sian on plane wearing thick witer clothing which is odd compare wth overall folks in Tianjin and Beijing wearing only sweater just like me. Only Early Morning & nit when temperature drop to ~ 8C and sometime as low as 6C (Well reported as 2C in weather underground??)..I just wear a down jacket wth a tee-shirt inside. no scarf & even glove..so do most Beijing folks. If I wear glove & scarf, it will very odd in Beijing haha..Probably by nxt mth when Beijing temp drop below 0C - yes. you need additional tee/ long John wth down jacket + scarf + glove for sure.. esp when temperature below -10C as what I experienced in Seoul last dec

Hihi,

Am going Taiwan next yr Apr...so excited...now is doing all the research rclxms.gif

Anyway, can fit all these in one day:
Taipei - Gold Ecological Park - Golden waterfall - Jinguashi - Jiufen (check in to accommodation, staying 1 night at Jiufen) - Shifen waterfall - skylatern at Shifen - Keelung Night Market

From Taipei to Gold Ecological Park, which is the best way in terms of saving time and cost. I know there is two way
1) Taipei MRT Zhongxiao Fuxing Station → Keelung Bus (bound for Jingua Rock (Jinguashi)) to Jiufen - which will take 1 hour 45 min
2) Train to Ruifang station - take Keelung Bus at Ruifang station - How long is the bus ride? i know the train ride is around 30-40min.

You guys got idea how's the train fare like?i only manage to search the timetable but not the fare sad.gif

For Keelung Night Market - is it a must visit place since at Jiufen?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Train from Taipei Main Station to RuiFang Station cost about NTD49~79, train ride takes about 30-50 minutes depends on which type of train you are taking. Bus ride from Ruifang to JiuFen/JinGuaShi takes about 15-20minutes. both train and bus can use Easycard.

taking train should be more time efficient because if you take bus you might get caught in traffic jam.

To me the night markets generally are the same. because of tourist most of the night markets actually sell the same type of food, maybe just the matter of if it is more popular or nicer or not.

IMHO skylantern is a rip off. they charging NTD100-200 depending on how many colors you choose. write on it, burn it, fly it. that's all. wink.gif Although i enjoyed watching other ppl kena rip off than actually doing it myself.

by the way, if you are interested of getting a tour guide to bring you around JinGuaShi/JiuFen, you can try Mr. Lim http://jinguas.pixnet.net/blog he stays in JinGuaShi so he's very familiar with the area. Save alot of time coz buses around JinGuaShi/JiuFen not very frequent.

there's shifen waterfall, coal museum, coal mine related stuffs....

i spent a day going thru pingxi train line. day pass unlimited ride on the pingxi train cost NTD52. u can hop on and off on any train stations along the pingxi line. there are old streets and souvenir shops around the stations. also have hiking trails to waterfalls or up the mountain. shifen waterfall is the more famous one loh. google abit about pingxi before you decide what you expect to see smile.gif
user posted image

the tour guide is a day tour thingy. if you have 4 or less ppl then can go in 1 car. i think if you don't mind also can combine with other ppl together if the timing is right. check out his blog for more information loh.

BTW, talking about weather in Taiwan esp Taipei, I hv been following closely the weather pattern for weeks after my last trip back to M'sia 2 yrs ago and still can't understand it..Taipei of having higher latitude than Hong Kong but from my observation & comparison on same mth & almost same date, Hong Kong having colder or almost similar weather as Taipei.. rclxub.gif

Just check the current weather of both cities from days now and you will understand what I'm talking about biggrin.gif
