My advise is better book a driver who drives carefully. The road is winding & lots of tour buses up & down the mountain.

Ok, I will depart to Taiwan on 28 Apr, come back on 6 May. Total 8 nites and 9 days. Need to minus the travel day so it come to 7 days.
I will spend 4 nites at Taipei, from 2-6 May. The balance of the days I need your advice to cover my trip plan.

My target is go Alisan, Sun Moon Lake, Hua Lian and Taichung. Sounds like bit greedy.
So after reach taoyuen on 28 Apr, I will straigh away bullet train to these places then stay and jln jln and move to taipei on 2 May.

Just came back from my 10 days trip with hubby.  Though its the 1st time I went there & my Chinese sucks, I enjoyed every moment of it. Taiwanese are very nice & friendly. Transportation & facilities are great too. Love the food & cheap clothes, shoes.
Went to taipei's popular places like beitou, danshui, jiufen, yehliu, wufenpu, ximending, Taipei 101, CKS memorial hall, Shinkong, longshan temple, Zhongxiao Fuxing areas, din tai fung.
Also booked a cab & went to Taichung - Hehuanshan snow mountain, Green Green Grassland, Sun Moon Lake. And also went to Hualien visit Taroko National Park & explored Hualien town.
Not forgetting night markets like shilin, raohe, fengjia (Taichung) & ziqiang (Hualien).

Taipei can be explored with MRT, bus & trains. But outskirts like Taichung, Hualien definitely need a cab because the distance from one place to another is far & it saves time to have booked a cab.

Can I introduce a very nice, friendly & honest cabby here? A friend intro him to me & I booked him for 2 days 1 night trip to Taichung. His rate is very reasonable ( I've asked 8 other cabbies for quotation).
He picked us from our hotel in Taipei & sent us back to Taipei as well. Drove us to many interesting places, use his own money to buy local snacks for us to try, didnt bring us to buy stuff from shops to earn commission. In fact, he gave us tips to save money & even returned "extra money" to us. For instance, the ferry ride at Sun Moon Lake to Shueshi, Itashao and Syuanguang piers costs NT300 per person if you buy at the counter. But it costs only NT100 if a local Taiwanese agent buys for you. So, we actually save NT200 per person there! And he also helped us booked a hotel near fengjia night market for NT1100. Actually it's NT1300 per night and agents get NT200 commission with the hotel. But he gave us back the NT200 as he doesn't want to earn our money. He wants us to spend more at fengjia instead smile.gif

And he even lent me his extra phone to call him cos he doesn't want me to use my own phone since roaming charges are expensive.

Anyone interested can whatsapp him at ‪+886 932 006 277‬ (mr. Liao 廖先生) or add him in facebook (candy92815@pchome.com.tw). He's 30s, energetic & can explain lots of stuff about Taiwan. And he drives a brand new Toyota wish & Hyundai 9 seater that have wifi too.
Just say Jessica Lee recommends & he'll give you a good rate.
I'll definitely book him again when i go Taiwan next time!

based on my research tongue.gif
on the 28apr u can use HSR from airport to taichung. save time and convenient
on the 29apr recommended u spend a night in sun moon lake. u can spend half day in sun moon lake and another half day at the formosan aborigin culture village. if dont want spend night in sun moon lake straight go cingjing and spend night in cingjing.
30apr. check out from cingjing. tour around. move to taroko. and end up in hualien. spend a night in hualien
1 may. u can tour around hualien and by afternoon take TRA back to taipei. reach taipei can start ur taipei free and easy.
for jiufen area u can cover jinguashi and shifen area.
in taipei u can stay at one place and move around coz very convenient.
hotspring will be at beitou. but i cannot recommend which one coz i dont know which one to go as well tongue.gif
FYI my trip is from 22-30apr smile.gif

many hotels in Beitou hav in-room private hotspring, can consider Hotel Double One which i stayed 2 weeks ago.

room is OK, location wise a bit distance from main attraction spots but still walkable, while the staff services is very good - they provide free shuttle services to and from the MRT station.

I think 3d 2n is enough to cover Taichung, SML, Cingjing & other places in nantou. Distance from one place to another is more than easily 1-2 hrs, depending on your driver's speed. Those areas are prone to accidents, so better get a careful driver.
Add in 1 more day to hualien. For me, I find hualien is interesting for taroko gorge, chitsingtan beach & hualien town area only. U definitely need a driver in hualien cos there's no MTR & busses are very seldom. Taroko gorge is amazingly huge & very beautiful, with lots of rocks formation, clear blue green rivers & fresh air.

I went to hehuanshan snow mountain. It was very very cold in mid Jan & very beautiful view. I didn't go to alishan.

The driver that I booked drove me around all these places, walked with me, be my tour guide explaining abt the places histories & bought lotsa yummy local snacks for me.
At first I thought of taking HSR to Taichung & then engage driver / book local tour bus. But to save the hassle of rushing to the train station, I prefer the driver to pickup & send us back to Taipei. The HSR fare is not cheap though, but if u wana experience high speed bullet train then u may try.
