semi slick / slicks does not offer good traction in wet. they are meant mostly for track use / street racing.
on optimum temperature and dry surface, this tires is glued to the road thus provide excellent traction / grip.

drawback: besides poor traction in wet, slicks wear out a lot faster than conventional tires.
conclusion : not practical for daily ride but okay for weekend car / track car / show car!

good explanation .. >>> liked

but ppl still using semi-slick for daily drive , i heard alot accident cases b4
some even said 160km/h with semi still safe and stable
in the end ...buy at ur own risk

semi / slicks should be okay during dry season but tread wear rating is still a big drawback.
then again, the weather is so unpredictable, better be safe than sorry.

hi,
thinking to change new tyres and have been doing surveys and reading all the comments on here and autoworld, basically i have shortlisted these 3 tyres (215/55/17) :

1) toyo C1S
2) yoko DB Advan V551
3) yoko C drive

Actually I got a good deal from hin leong, klang for the toyo C1S, decided to give toyo a try, but after reading more reviews, I am quite concern about few complaints from toyo C1S, tyres wear off very fast (but i dun know how fast they actually meant) ... very quiet on smooth road, but theres noisy/weird sound when going on rough road .. how truth it is ?? and the difference between c drive & C1s only about RM40-50 per tyre ! So, Is it better to go for C1S, C1S is better than C drive in all areas ?? I am quite worry about the weird sound from C1S while driving on rough/uneven road, i dun know whether those sound would be very much annoyed ????? blink.gif

Some said DB advan v551 better than C1S in almost everything except the wet traction, but db v551 also a bit pricey than C1S rclxub.gif Now hin leong dun have stock for it blush.gif I know C drive is a old tyre tread design, but if they are ok, then i dun mind using them. just if the difference between c drive n C1S only about rm50 a piece, which tyres more worthy to go for ? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif (currently theres no C drive 2 available in this size)

My criteria for the tyres, more on comfort, quiet & of coz dry/wet traction must be average.

1) no comment on Toyo as never used them
2) very pricey, however should be worth it if you can fork out that kinda money
3) old tread design, not worth it unless you're getting a huge bargain price for it. if anything, opt for the c drive 2 if you can get R17 sizes

hi,
2) it seems like a well all rounder from many revews but the drawback is it loses in wet traction. V551 price
compared to C1S is about RM25-30/ tyre, worth to choose it over C1S ? Some said C1S quite good in wet
traction, ai ya, kepala pening la rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
3) old tread design, YES, but if its good tyre, not worthy to take also ? as i said, the difference between c drive &
C1s is about RM40-RM50/tyre. theres no my size for c drive 2 yet mad.gif

hi,

Will be interested to know what other tyres better than the 3 listed for the same size.

I am also looking for a quiet and safe ride.

Currently using yoko DB E70. Dunno whether this is a good tyre or not but came with the car and kinda noisy on normal city roads but ok on the highway.

thanks.

seems like only quiet when new?
QUOTE
Now the negative
1. It is only quiet when new. When the tread level goes below half worn, it is noisy.
2. If you don't have a lot of tyre shop that deliver Toyo in your area, please do not get this as Toyo is very difficult to source in certain area.
3. It has a bumpy feel even I applied tyre UV protector on the sidewall weekly and this tyres are less than 1 year old only. Maybe due to the stiffer sidewalls.

and it cost almost as much as advan db? ><

DB E70? iinm thats like the older generation db right? before yokohama even integrate the db lineup to their ADVAN flagship lineup.

anyways from my knowledge you can look up the tires listed, or maybe look out continental. i've heard a lot of bad reviews on continental especially on their grip/traction performance for their comfort/quiet series, so in the end went with yokohama c drive 2 on my current ride smile.gif

ur alza or ur myvi? laugh.gif

Silverstone Synergy M5
Bridgestone MY01
Falken 912
Achilles ATR Sport

for the bridgestone, falken and achilles, pricing should be a bit over 200 each, unless you go klang. There can get cheaper.

actually i have read that review also, but which tyres not noisy after half worn out ? what about c drive and yoko db advan v551? can those tyres quiet last much longer ? C1S & v551 only a bit difference, c drive cheaper than both.. I feel like want to go for C1S, but the mixed reviews of it make me think twice again ... icon_question.gif Think just go for C drive without hesitation but C1s which is japan made only rm40-50 difference with c drive which is phi made . shocking.gif So, dun know which one more worthy icon_question.gif

you're not looking forward to spirited/aggressive drive or good comfort/quiet are you? cuz for budget tires, its damn hard to get those.

then again you DO have rm200 budget (damn healthy budget per tire to be very honest lol), and c drive 2 tires are ~rm220 for your size btw wink.gif

then there's michelin xm2, or continental comfort contact series.

bridgestone potenza?

for a better performance but cheap/reasonable tire prices, the koreans such as hankook v12/kumho (KU36? kept forgetting the model lol) offer really good pricing:performance ratios

there's a lot of naysaying about silverstone, i personally never experienced them, however the way some are exaggerating, i guess i'd best not to.

falken is overpriced for what it offers. and soft compound that doesn't offer significant quietness/comfort seems to be a waste of treadwear imo sad.gif

achilles may be stiff which can result in harsher NVH, however for performance:pricing, they are very competitive if you have no regards to comfort/noise

c drive 2 perhaps not as the treadwear is pretty bad. really really soft compound lol

advan db however is on a better compound and boasts better treadwear and still obtaining better silence/comfort. it has a premium pricetag attached to it though and i believe thats just about the only downside to it sad.gif

personally id recommend AGAINST c drive UNLESS you can get a real bargain price. considering it is of older tread design and compound compared to c drive 2, it is just basically for shops clearing old stock, and they SHOULD give cheaper price for clearing stocks agree?

Hi,
To be more specific, so far the best offer i got for c drive is RM 385/pc, with FOC balancing, alignment, and 4 valve tubes, but its oct/nov 2011 tyres, hows the price ?? reasonable ?? If not becoz of the reviews saying that weird sound/noise from toyo C1S while going on rough road and tyres wear off very fast, i would definitely want to go for toyo .. wink.gif wink.gif Dun know whether c drive or toyo C1S wear off faster ??? one is philiphines tyres, one is japan brows.gif Hope all sifu here can give me opinions coz i need to change those tyres as soon as possible .. blush.gif

i really can't comment much on Toyo, or the old c drive 2. if the new c drive 2 sure as i am running on them for half a year already lol, and advan db there are other forumers already given their review.

the country of the tire's origins do not determine tire tread ratings fyi smile.gif

it's really up to you, as i said, if the shop can offer cheap price for clearing old stock, get the c drive (i've never looked into R17 tire sizes so i cant comment on the exact price too, sorry sad.gif )

else its either the toyo or yokohama advan db whichever that fancies you more lol
