Easy.

New -- Straight from the store, packed tight, never opened.
Refurbished -- Recycled. See also http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/R/refurbished.html

Think of it this way, if any manufacturer accepts your (wadever device) for warranty and has to give you a brand new device every time, they will close shop very soon.

Refurbished units are units which have been repaired and checked to ensure that they are in perfect working condition with no cosmetic defects.

If you can wait, then wait. If not, get it and also asked them if you cans till send in for replacement maybe 3-4 months from now (while still under warranty of course).

Just reject it, ask for refund.
Wait till Apple settle the screen issue, then buy a brand new one from store again.

actually, does you all really notice the screen bleed when u are using it normally?

no, 100% brightness at a dark room is not where you use everyday.

I got the bleed but I don't even notice it 100% of the time. IMO not worth to go through all the warranty / waiting just so that I could avoid noticing the bleed.

I have Splashtop Remote app on my iPad 2 which I use for displaying my iMac (downstairs). I use it every night to watch my videos stored in my HDD. Even at 50% brightness, I do notice the screen bleed and it's a bit annoying having this bright lights at the edge of the screen.

If you pay 2K+ for a device, the least Apple can do provide us with no factory defect. If we take the tidak apa attitude, then Apple will really take us for a ride when iPad 3 comes out ... because, no worry lah .... Malaysian customer tak kisah punyerrrr.

nope, yours is another case. if you can even see it at 50% brightness, then yes, it's a big problem

even if u can see it on 100% brightness it's still an issue if u are using it normally.

but what i find that is, it seems a few of here is, they purposely go and do the test, like find a really dark room, set to 100% brightness and view a black picture. they saw bleed and they rage

but when on normal use, they actually won't notice it. but they still make a big fuss.

but if like ur case, then yes, by all means go and get a good unit (no matter it's RM2k or RM50 tongue.gif)

Actually screen bleeding is quite normal, but not many actually knew about it.

Sometimes people dont understand why we dont take it seriously, but they dont understand the circumstances. First of all, these electronics has very short shelf life of 12months. Why buy one and waste 3-4months just to get a perfect unit. If the replacement is acceptable, then just accept it for the moment being cos there's no guarantee it will be ever perfect. Secondly, Apple is still keeping mum over this matter, because to them, a case being under investigation, they will not be responsible for anything. If you are unhappy, return it within the stipulated period and peace. Of course, their main intention is to clear the remaining affected batch.

Tak apa, tak kisah, etc... If you can get Apple to guarantee that the replacement will be totally defect free, then you should go ahead. Otherwise, just file a case and wait till when you start to feel bored with it, and sent it for warranty claims.

same to westlife, my check on the screen bleeding is as below:

on 100% brightness:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Only some minor bleeding, that I can live with... nod.gif

On standard brightness:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

barely noticeable.. smile.gif

the only problem I have with my ipad 2 is the burn like stain on the smart cover.. check out my problem in the smart cover thread... sad.gif

Is that a screen capture or camera capture?

Too black to be camera capture? I view from iPad2 and LCD TV both also perfect black.
