Email to Harvey Norman Australia. That is their boss.

Im not targeting HN. Im just targeting Apple. I dont know how much HN earned from Ipad2 sales, Im more interested to extort something from Apple for selling something thats defective. I think most people would be able to live with the screen cos the LG is really so bright at full brightness, I only can stare at the screen when the brightness is at 30~40%.

Added on May 9, 2011, 1:39 pmHN staff said they might replaced it if they had the stock but subject to their boss approval. I don't think the boss will replace given that someone actually bought one on day1 but unit was unwrapped and all he get is a refund.

Apple meanwhile is being crap. I asked them about the mail-in replacement and this guy told me mail-in option not available for SG and MY. I told him about some other people getting it that way but was rejected flat. Furthermore, Apple still have something up their sleeve. When you purchase this item from reseller, this contract is between you and the resellers. They do not have to honor anything aside from the 1year warranty. If you want warranty, go to their service center and do whatever they want. GREAT!!

From what I'm being told, I can change it even after a few months. The problem is keeping the water out (I always wipe the screen with wet tissue) and any cosmetic defect will be charged if they replace a new one for you.

You keep the old one until Apple sends you the new one is what I understand.

Btw, LG and Samsung display..

Seems like the LG is brighter, Samsung produces more color?

Some updates on my case, I went back to Challenger IT for my case. Apparently the 1-1 exchange within 7 days of purchase is not valid for Malaysia and Singapore. The reseller can choose to do it or not.

Apple will only honor that if you're getting it from Apple Store! So I think it is wise to get it online instead =/

Secondly, was told by a Senior Service Adviser called Ivan (some angmoh) that Apple acknowledges the screen issue and new batch has already solved it. Units built in May will be solved. Psst, anyone knows how to check the manufacturing date through serial?

someone on this thread just mentioned that they did a 1-1 swap with machines and they say no such thing in Malaysia and Singapore?

Singapore even better, no questions asked, something wrong swap on the spot

Well, the manager claimed that he called Apple regional manager and they said this rules don't apply to Msia and Singapore. How true I don't know ._. But the service adviser I spoke to on the Apple Call Center said it should be covered dry.gif...

And it is up to the reseller if they want to do a 1-1 exchange or not according to him.

What Celciuz is true.

Dont be surprised. Today I learned something new as well. Like I said in my previous post, Apple is not in a binding contract except for the 1year warranty. By committing to the purchase of any Apple products, you are actually binding a contract with the reseller, NOT APPLE. The 1-to-1 exchange is basically where the reseller return the defective new products as a whole to Apple and claim from there. Thats why they are not keen to do this. HN staff that I talked to today also point this out to me. He can replace it for me, if I insist but he need approval from his manager. If his manager insist that Apple should have a look at the first before doing a 1-to-1, then they will ask you to leave it there and they also sent these defective device to Apple Authorised Service Provider like VR Tech. Sometimes Apple might reject their claims, which some of us dont know. We thought Apple are generous with claims.

I personally never felt Apple is a generous company to deal with warranty claim after my purchase of their Time Capsule which were proven to have a limited lifetime between 12 to 24months. Many user were left with a very expensive paper weight after Apple refused their warranty claim. Some were lucky because they have ACP from their Mac purchase but many were left in the dark. Even after Apple acknowledge the problem, only limited number of replacement were issued, within the specified serial no.

Dell and HP are way better. When I signed StreamyX contract with TM and HP, the LCD arrived DOA. A simple call to HP and a replacement is bound my way in about 4days. All I have to do is packed it as it were, and returned it to the courier guy who sent the replacement. No question asked nor did they do any test. Unlike Apple, they are not coming clean with their policy for SEA countries whereby we deal with the resellers and not Apple directly. We assume Apple should change it based on the replies we get from forums, but thats when Apple deal directly with customers and wanna keep a good image for themselves.
