Ladies.. Enough with the pissing contest.. tongue.gif  True 4K/UHD boasts a 4,096 x 2160 res screen and not 3,840 x 2160. So if your TV/Monitor doesn't...  whistling.gif  whistling.gif ..Know what's even worse? Content being watered down or up-scaled to 3,840 x 2160 with low bitrate...

I'm gonna go enjoy my 1080p screen..  rclxs0.gif

That's a reason choosing smaller vid size. think about it because even you have 200mb broadband line doesn't means you intranet streaming with wifi will be far much better. LOL

I have tested 40GBs to 60GBs 4k vids over network to my himedia q10 pro, macam lagging. I'm using Giga LAN and over TPLINK AV1200 powerline.

At last bought 4TB external usb3 disc to put all 4k movies inside and connect via usb3 to q10pro. Now I got more than 50 titles (almost 3TB) 4k movies tongue.gif.

Surprisingly 4k movies (dolby vision) on netflix over 30mbps unifi, no lag at all. But cannot use q10pro as it's not authorize netflix player.

So did you find out where is the bottleneck? It should not lag with GB Lan and that powerline benchmark at 160 mbps.

Netflix 4K is around 16-18 mbps...they recommend 25 mbps line only...

I thiink its the poweline bottlenecking the connection as my router and pc its upstairs and himedia is downstairs. How much exactly the powerline max real world transmission is vary from case to case and dependable the distance of the power line of a house and how much noise in it. But definately 30mbps unifi is not an issue as i can easily use speedtest.net to check. But for file transfer max speed over the powerline i have yet to test. Maybe later will do it and share the result.

Thanks. Yup...bottleneck can be from many things, including use of lightning /surge protectors, 3 phase wiring, grounding, cat cables, protocol setup, etc.

I had some spare routers, so connected a pair as repeater (one as access point, one as client bridge to my main router) thinking this way I can eliminate the half-speed effects...turns out the Lan connecting both was a bottleneck worse than the half-speed effects... lol...

Direct CAT6e Ethernet everything connection.... With great broadband speeds comes greater hardware requirements.. tongue.gif

Direct CAT6e Ethernet everything connection.. Better router & NAS.. Another one of the reasons, I have jumped on the bandwagon just yet.. I'm all about efficiency.. Seamlessly enjoying 4K content ain't cheap.. Must upgrade everything and lay cables all round.. Powerlines are a no go in my books where high stable networking are required.

It's not unsurprising that you are able to stream "4K" via Netflix. Netflix is not pushing out true 4K. Just better enough pq than true 1440p. The rest is the result of your TV's up-scaling engine.. smile.gif

console.gif In all fairness, it's just some that are awful. The majority AFAIK actually look superb, especially with HDR... However, not in sufficient quantities to convince me to replace a fully functioning quality display. *knocks on wood*... Besides, TV tech will only get better and cheaper, so there's the plus side to waiting.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Apr 18 2017, 03:10 PM)
i am quite sure u do not know what is meant by that bolded sentence. biggrin.gif
that sentence refers to playback with KODI player, as in the app KODI.
that, is the heartache of many boxes using kodi - pls read kodi thread.
becos many people like to playback their hdd collections with KODI player - for kodi's artwork.
some like playback with other players like MX or VLC.
take note some boxes do not come with native player, i.e. a player where u play direct clean and simple, no need another app player.
himedia used to be a pure media player co., every box they make comes with their own himedia player.
Q5/Q10 pro native player is a powerful one, with imprex engine2, can do extras like HDR, dolby vision, DTSX, online subtitle download, picture quality parameters adjustment/tuning - not found in most other players.

so, that sentence refers to playback with kodi app as it is. the last bit about wrapper means if u insist on playing back with kodi player, himedia's solution is to use the wrapper, an app which "wraps" the stream from kodi, bypass it and play thru the native player. this wrapper, for now, works fine if u playback with kodi but does not work with regular kodi online streaming, something that needs to be fixed by a new firmware, not done yet.

i do not like local playback with kodi, prefer playback direct with native player. have used q10pro for 3 months now, have hv not seen a single file in my collection that does not play correctly.

i do not know what files u have in yr collection, but i have banyak terabytes tongue.gif ... all sorts... incl 50, 66gb, 4k, hevc, 10bit, mkv, m2ts, iso, whatever...
afaik, the native player in q5pro is the same with q10pro.

there are 2 diff between the two - q5pro is 2/8gb while q10pro is 2/16gb;
q10pro has a compartment to slot in an internal HDD while q5pro does not.
as far as USB playback with ext HDD is concerned, there should be no diff at all.

if u decide to buy one of these, i suggest to confirm with seller about the latest firmwares.
the current q10pro firmware is 2.0.1 (there is a very new 2.0.3 which i hv not tested yet).
q5pro, i don't know.

thanks for all the details shared! i also same same like you, all MKV REMUX files, but no 4K yet ... just probably full hd contents. right, will check on the firmware. i plan to get from lazada, any shops that you can recommend?

Never use a repeater for wifi signal, it's degrade the wifi speed very badly. I tested before at the end use powerline as it gives much higher speed.

I think both read speed over usb 3.0 and sata 3 is about the same. Not much different.

I chose external disk because it's easy for me to unplug and connect it to my PC for huge 4k file transfer.

I tested q10pro and put an internal 2.0TB 3.5inch hdd and use samba network transfer from my PC, the speed is unacceptable. 2-5mbps, ridiculously slow, 1 movie 30GB about 6-7hours to transfer. If usb3 transfer i got about 70-80mbps, if sata3 transfer I get about same as usb3, which is about few minutes.

Next time I think whole house have to lay Cat6 cable all over the rooms including living hall and kitchen. Nothing can compare to a pure direct cat6 cable. Not wifi, not powerline, not a repeater.

Yes bro, jump to 4k aint cheap, haha. I had changed my TV, my TV box to himedia, my AV receiver that has 4k passthru, my network cables, my powerline, my router to dual band to enable 5ghz wifi speed, and not to mentioned the huge external disk. sweat.gif

In the name of the same objective, seemless enjoyment of 4k content viewing.

for files transfer, needless to say direct to pc will be fastest! biggrin.gif

file transfer over wifi between internal hdd and pc, i use file manager asus.

not that fast but acceptable for small files, e.g. music files.

if u hv 3TB of 4k stuff, i hope u have a duplicate somewhere for the best ones.

if that hdd fails, u will crying!

i had that once, never again. laugh.gif

Just sharing! don't fall into those gimmick about gigabyte transfer over one LAN port. doesn't work as you think.

What's your files transfer speed within your hard disc partition or HD>HD? Isn't that supposed to be the fastest? WIll the gigi-speed hardware over the LAN can increase these transfer rate?

where and how to buy, i will only suggest u keep in mind where and how to get the support after buying.

more so for a totally new box user.

u can also pm some users and check with them as most will not want to openly promote some seller here.
